Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

So here's a fun question to kill some time tonight, looking back on the past Smash Bros games specifically new comers. In each version of Smash Bros including the upcoming Smash 4, what new comers were you most excited to play that you ended up not liking, and which newcomers did you not care at all about and ended up really enjoying?

Smash 64: Excited about Fox. Didn't know who Ness was. Ended up maining Yoshi, Fox and Ness were both secondaries.

Melee: I loved the idea of playing as Falco. Didn't know Roy or Ganondorf. Those 3 were my mains. (Yes, I played Melee before I played OoT)

Brawl: Loved the idea of Sonic. Sonic I had been waiting for for a long time. Playing as him is meh. I main Marth, Falco and Ike.

Smash 4: I'm excited at the prospect of Megaman being playable, but I don't expect to main him. Out of the newcomers, I am most excited about Wii Fit Trainer.

SmashGAF could barely survive the drought between Diddy Kong and the direct..

This can only be a bloodbath
If that's the case...

Personally for me

Smash 64: Excited for Link and Samus didn't like playing as them, no interest in Jigglypuff and Falcon loved playing as them

Melee: Excited for Bowser didn't like playing as him, no interest in Ice Climbers and ended up loving to play as them

Brawl: Excited for Meta Knight and Pit didn't like playing as them, no interest in Rob and ended up loving to play as him

Currently for Smash 4: Excited for Greninja and Mega Man, no interest in WFT

Smash 64: Excited for Yoshi, didn't care for Fox. Ended up with Falcon and Mario.

Melee: Excited for Mewtwo, didn't care for Ganondorf. ended up with Dr. Mario and Falcon.

Brawl: Excited for Sonic, didn't care for Pokémon Trainer and Wolf. Ended up with Sonic and Diddy.

Smash 4: Currently hyped for Little Mac and WFT, don't care for Villager.

Oreimo reference in title? Not sure if gusta...

Anyway I decided to make my dream roster. Pretty boring overall, just all rumours and returning characters with Takamaru, Tetra and Ridely thrown in.

Smash 64: Excited for Samus, didn't care for Fox, ended up with Samus and Kirby.

Melee: Excited for Bowser, didn't care for Pichu, ended up with Falco, Ness, Mewtwo and Roy.

Brawl: Excited for Wario, didn't care for Lucario ended up with Falco, and Ice Climbers.

Smash 4: Excited for Mega Man, don't care for Villager, will end up with Mega Man, and Little Mac. ;3

I have no actual mains, just a large rotation of characters that I use.

I like how you think.

Though I'd want Ghirahim instead of Tetra and stick Waluigi and a Ray series Robo in there somewhere.

Don't worry, Ness is coming May 11th... maybe.

I hope so. We can't have another character drought.

What Bloodbath?

The barrage of inane arguments that usually occurs when we're in an information drought.

Wonder how many here have seen the ending.

I never heard of the show until last night someone mentioned it in IRC chat room, and I don't know what happens in the ending.

Time for you to accept the fact that Waluigi isn't playable character. :P

Replace Tetra with King K. Rool and I'd be okay with this. There's no way in hell the Zelda franchise deserves six characters.

More than 60 characters would be difficult to develop strategies against. Say you're fighting against Duck Hunt dog. Is he a melee fighter with bites? Or the ray gun? Or does he throw claymores?

Hey all, if you have a minute, don't forget to tweet #BattlefieldForGlory or something along those lines to Nintendo/Sakurai letting them know that we want MORE than just final destination for 'For Glory.'

This has been my daily reminder :)

If you guys had to choose a fourth cut character after Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Snake, who would it be?

I have it narrowed down to Ice Climbers, ROB, Ike, Lucas, and Wolf

-Ice Climbers have the lowest chance, but maybe the 3DS will mess them up

-ROB is a unique character, but is somewhat tied to SSE, and now would arguably seem a little out of place.

-Fire Emblem characters have a history of leaving, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Ike go. But he also has a legitimate new moveset.

-Lucas is probably the cloniest out of my potential removed characters, and was from a Japan-only game, but was also planned for Melee and was available as a default character over Ness in Brawl.

-Wolf is another Star Fox character, do we really need three similarly playing ones?

I think I'm leaning towards Lucas, but for some reason I'm not completely confident in any of them.

Smash 64: I had never played F-Zero at the time so Captain Falcon was completely unknown to me when I unlocked him. One falcon punch later and he's been my main ever since. Was not at all fond of Ness or Yoshi, and still dislike playing as them.

Melee: Was super excited for Mewtwo once I read he was unlockable but he wound up being fairly disappointing. Cool moves, just not very good. I was pleasantly surprised by Young Link and Peach though.

Brawl: Was hyped for Sonic and Snake but wound up not liking either of them, particularly.
Wario was also kind of disappointing for me, would have preferred a moveset similar to his Project M appearance. Really like Diddy Kong though, me and my friends normally play with items off, so his bananas can add some shenanigans that might otherwise be absent.

Smash 4: I'm extremely excited to try out Little Mac and Greninja also looks great, Villager and WFT look amusing but I'm not too fussed about them.
I really just want to see if Captain Falcon has gotten any buffs since Brawl.

I'm still okay with FD only in for glory mode, it's not like I'm going to rematch people there often and when given the choice of playing 1-3 random dudes in a ranked match for a quick 2 minute fight I'd want it to be on FD. If I want to do the really hardcore smash scene I'll just friend people and do custom rules like the smash community always does

Wolf is much more differentiated from Fox and Falco than they are from each other.

Ike has a unique moveset.

Ice Climbers are a unique concept with no parallel.

ROB...um, I would forget he was cut in a day.

Lucas is very similar to Ness, but it doesn't have to stay that way.

Yeah, it's a hard decision. It would be a lot easier to decide if one of them was a Pokemon character, they get cut like crazy.

With Toon Link in the roster, the only reason I could see someone being cut is if they're way too cloney without adding anything, or if they can't be put in the game do to outside reasons (Konami, Pokemon Company). That's why I'm thinking it's Lucas, because he fits the former more than anyone else fits either, but I'm not sure. It really might be Rob.

I'm against cuts, but if I had to choose: Lucas, easily. He's the only Brawl character who didn't leave Japan -- and even then, Mother 3 has sort of fallen by the wayside. For whatever reason, Japanese Mother fans don't really like it.

Also, Mother is the lowest-selling series in Smash Bros., and it doesn't "need" two characters. The three Mother protagonists are all visually derivative of one another, and I think Ness by himself is sufficient representation for such a small, niche IP. It's not like Lucas brings a completely unique move set to the table that would be sorely missed if he's cut.

Thread title should have been: Direct... or Cut!

Smash 64: Really excited for Link coming off OoT. But overall the whole thing was just mindblowing, I could make Mario fight Link!! Ended up maining Samus(which is where my nick comes from) and then eventually Captain Falcon

Melee: Zelda/Sheik, Peach and Ganondorf were hype as fuck! Marth, Game and Watch and Ice Climbers, and the various clones were a bit of a letdown initially. I ended up keeping Captain Falcon as my main, but quickly realized the potential of Sheik which became my second. Then saw the amazing videos of the pro players and decided to give Falco a try and he definitely clicked as my 3rd.

Brawl: Excited for Meta Knight, Pit and Snake, but never went far with them except for a brief period with Snake. Played mainly as Sheik as Falcon just played so poorly. Didn't really play Brawl that much(compared to Melee)

Smash 4: Really excited for Greninja, Mega Man and WFT. I also hope for a return to form for Samus, and really excited about Sheik as stand alone.

As much as I never really played as ROB, it would be sad to see him go. He's adorable. Maybe just give him some buffs and people will like him more?

I don't think the program have Chorus Men yet.
Bingo. Couldn't be stuffed making it myself or downloading it. My boring roster is not worth the effort.

Wonder how many here have seen the ending.
Oh I have, as much as I wish I hadn't... :P

You call that a dream roster? This is a dream roster.
I suppose I should've put "slightly realistic roster that I'd be down with".

Also no one seemed to notice I forgot the Ice Climbers.

If you guys had to choose a fourth cut character after Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Snake, who would it be?
I'd say Lucas as the lesser of evils.

Here's my predicted roster. Imagine that the Mii button is just elongated along the bottom like in Mario Kart.

48 characters, 4 cuts (Squirtle, Ivysaur, Snake, Lucas)
