Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Pro Tip: Tiny Pic has been banned for ages.

Yeah, imgur wasn't working for me so I had to try something else. That let me upload it differently though:

If you guys had to choose a fourth cut character after Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Snake, who would it be?

I have it narrowed down to Ice Climbers, ROB, Ike, Lucas, and Wolf

-Ice Climbers have the lowest chance, but maybe the 3DS will mess them up

-ROB is a unique character, but is somewhat tied to SSE, and now would arguably seem a little out of place.

-Fire Emblem characters have a history of leaving, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Ike go. But he also has a legitimate new moveset.

-Lucas is probably the cloniest out of my potential removed characters, and was from a Japan-only game, but was also planned for Melee and was available as a default character over Ness in Brawl.

-Wolf is another Star Fox character, do we really need three similarly playing ones?

I think I'm leaning towards Lucas, but for some reason I'm not completely confident in any of them.

Ice Climbers is only getting cut if 8 of them fucks the frame rate on the 3ds to a point where it can't be fixed

Ike would only be cut in the sense that Chrom would take over a chunk of his moveset. I personally expect them both to be back

Rob is unique and will be back, there really is no great reason to assume he'll be gone other then some people here who don't like the character, don't think he's popular, and don't want him back. If Mewtwo and Roy were both meant to come back but were cut for time for Sonic I don't see that happening again unless chibi robot takes over a chunk of Rob's moveset and I don't think that be fair to chibi he should play way differently to Rob

Lucas and Wolf is really where the discussion should be. Lucas is a clone of Ness who was kind or Roy'd into Brawl as part of the release of the newest Mother game in Japan. Wolf was also cloned in from Fox and Falco and in the same year Mother 3 was released we got Star Fox Command which Wolf had a big role in iirc.

Since Brawl neither has really done much, Mother did get its worldwide revival on the wiiu vc and star fox got a remake of the best game in the series on the 3ds, but Lucas isn't in mother 2 and wolf plays a small role in star fox 64 3d. This gives Wolf the edge in being slightly more relevant in recent times however in terms of smash things are a bit more interesting.

Wolf is the third Star Fox character and a clone even if he plays very differently from Fox or Falco. Lucas is only the second Mother character and just like Wolf he's a clone who plays very differently to Ness. From that angle if I can only include one I'd pick Lucas so that both series had two reps each.

I would guess that if either get cut it will be due to time constraints and not due to Sakurai not thinking those characters should be in Smash 4

Wolf's entire set of normals is different. The only reason his specials are similar is that they're based on a spaceship like Fox and Falco's.

A clone can't just share one or two moves; large sections of the moveset must be the same.

Guys, i know we don't have confirmation on even Ness or Lucas, but i wanted to ask, do you think it's impossible that we get another rep on the Mother series? I was thinking maybe Kumatora...

Wolf's moveset is inspired by Fox/Falco yes? That makes him a clone not the same level as say Vanilla SF2 Ryu and Ken but he is still a clone. Even all the shoto clones or Ryu/Ken in SF are still clones even if they play nothing alike

Apart from the layout, that's identical to the 48 character roster I posted a while back:

I'm kind of hoping for more than 48 characters, though.

I have a feeling it'll be more than 48. Really think Namco helping with the game is going to open it past that.

If Wolf's not a clone, I'm Sakurai.

I'd be fine with that 48-character roster. Lucas will be missed, though :(

EDIT:

I'm more concerned with the limitations of the 3DS. I'm not sure how much space each fighter takes.

Pokémon X/Y has >700 characters with stats/animations etc. Most of the file size of a game is music/FMVs - 3D models/textures/animations are tiny in comparison (hence why 3DS version has less music). Size really isn't an issue for number of characters.

Good stuff. DaBoss nailed a lot of the move stuff prior but there is some stuff not mentioned anywhere else. Like Sonic's Neutral B being buffed to hell (travels entire stage) thank based sakurai if that stays.

The part he points out where Luigi gets hit by Bowser's Ftilt is a move-induced trip. That really fucking irritates me. I can't believe they might be still putting random chances of tripping happening from *any* move in the game. I understand some people are OK with it but I'm not because it's still random tripping except instead of being while you're moving it's instead as you're getting hit and the person who hits you with it has a random chance of being unable to capitalize on the trip.

I hope it changes but I have my doubts. Welcome back, Ganondorf's down air on grounded opponents causing them to trip instead of launching into the air sometimes. -_-

And yes, nearly every move in Brawl had a % chance of tripping programmed into the game. If you open up PSA (the program used to modify character move sets) and look at each move's hitbox area, not only does it list the SDI multipliers and hitlag, but a trip rate chance is there as well. Some can be as low as 0.3x while others that happen more frequently are as high as like 0.6x or something I think. It's hard to remember but I'm pretty sure most moves had 0.3x unless it was a down tilt like MK's or the Mother boys which typically had it higher (either 0.4x or higher).

I can't believe they're actually potentially going to keep tripping for moves. I can't believe it. I really hope it's maybe just a tripping chance they have forgotten to turn off/make 0.0x or something on Bowser's Ftilt. I really just want tripping to just be from bananas (and by extension, Diddy's bananas). Please be a mistake. ;~;

Good roster. And I believe that the 3DS cartridges hold up to 8 gb. So assuming there's not a lot of space taken up for extra modes/stages that seems like enough.

I don't hear it talked about much but I really just started looking at this thread. What do you guys think about someone from wonderful 101? It's one of the most interesting Wiiu games and I figure they could pull some interesting things from it. Also, the motion sensor bomb item kind of looks like something from GEATHJERK to me.

It's come up a lot. Many people want it to happen, but recognize it's extremely unlikely.

I'm pretty sure the 3DS can hold all the data, especially now that stuff like Subspace isn't eating up half of it anymore.

I'm also going to assume that the 3DS version won't have a lot of the pre-rendered cutscenes and they're limiting each stage to only two songs. Other than that smash is pretty limited, so I guess we'll just see.

Models don't take up much space. Arguably, so are textures (they're compressed a lot on mobile devices). It's usually audio and video that's taking up most of the space.

Wolf's special moves are heavily modified versions of Fox and Falco's, but his normal moveset has no similarities. Normal moves comprise the majority of gameplay.

Ken is very much a Falco type clone; both his normals and specials look very similar with a few key different ones.

If Wolf's not a clone, I'm Sakurai.
Again, you can't be a clone if your normals are all look different.

This reminds me of the people who think Lucario is a Mewtwo clone.

I'm more concerned with the limitations of the 3DS. I'm not sure how much space each fighter takes.

In Brawl, assets for each individual fighter only took up a couple MB. Had very little strain on storage space (which was mostly taken up by music and cutscenes), but thanks to the relatively small amount of RAM on the Wii it did prevent them from loading transformations into memory. They've already dealt with the latter, and without Subspace most of their storage woes are already addressed.

I still say the biggest problem is how much people are jumping on the train saying the leak is legit. I really don't see it. Even with all of the previous confirmations.

Makes sense why there's only two songs per stage then. If anything I'd think that mean they're conserving space for a pretty sizable roster.

Do you guys really not think we'll get a Donkey Kong newcomer? That franchise hasn't been this relevant in decades. We've had two new DKC games since Brawl. Seems like an obvious choice.

I agree with this. Calling WFT is pretty insane, but other than that we haven't seen either Pac-Man or Mii. We'll see. It's a decent lead that I guess has earned some credit, but I wouldn't take it as the gospel truth either.

Exactly. Melee and Brawl suffered from the pre and post buyout of Rare. DK's gotten some new games to work off of since Brawl so I think it's time the series got another newcomer.

I mean if Star Fox somehow has three characters, I don't see why DK can't have three.

I think it's kind of silly that people use him getting "Wii Fit Trainer" down to the letter as proof in favor, but are eager to ignore the fact that he couldn't so much as guess Greninja's name.

Dixie or Cranky seem like the two best choices. Dixie's a main character, Cranky's been a staple of the series, and both were in Tropical Freeze.

One possible response to this problem is that more X/Y Pokemon are on the way, and he didn't feel like listing them all.

Unless Sakurai pulls Snake out of his ass I'm pretty sure this is it.

I really do like this Photoshop job, by the way. I think I asked you for a template a while back and you were too far along to procure one which is a shame.

*SDF*

Would fit right in with one of Snake's trademark quotes "Kept you waiting huh?"
Sorry guys I don't see anything at all saying Snake is confirmed cut like so many here keep trying to throw.
