Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I still contest that the hardest part about Ridley is simply his inhuman-ness. (Almost) all of the other characters are human, humanoid, or controlled by/avatars of a human (like the Pokemon Trainer). Jigglypuff never seemed weird because she's such a good fit with the Kirby style of characters, and the Kirby characters never felt weird because... I don't know, reasons. Even if their proportions are inhuman, their actions aren't. They have conversations and act with emotion and intelligence.

Yoshi's stance change (which just seems unnecessary to me) is just one example of the team wanting characters to be as close to human/humanoid in appearance as possible.

Ridley, however, in all the Metroid games has been portrayed as decidedly animalistic in his appearance and actions.

I know he and all the space pirates are supposed to be an intelligent space-faring species, but he's always seemed just driven by instinct, like an animal, and I think that would make him feel disjointed next to the rest of the Smash Cast.

This was going to be my next question. Why have we never had a character in smash who truly walks on 4 legs? Or am I totally spacing right now and forgetting someone?

Come on people, gimme more Metroid bosses for Smash.

I already mentioned Quadraxis, who could have its head detach to attack from the other side of the screen. And maybe its head and body would have separate health bars, with either one supporting the other even after it's KO'd and unable to fight.

And for others, I wouldn't mind seeing Nightmare. Make all characters behave like their metal forms when its gravity generator is running.

Yeah, forget about his size, Ridley always just felt too lanky to be in Smash.

Ridley would have to curve its back quite a bit (like pre-Smash4 Bowser) and keep its wings relatively still to avoid having a ridiculously large hurtbox that moves all over the place as Ridley attacks and moves around. Still, I'd love to see him as a playable character, since it's the only non-Samus character that'd be even remotely possible now that Dark Samus has been confirmed as an AT.

Hey, I didn't watch the japanese direct, but do the dates on there match up w/ the dates for US /EU?

Summer for 3ds and winter for wii u? They're not gonna get it early again, this time, are they? By now hopefully nintendo realizes the global appeal of smash.

Lol Kraid is the dumb lackey that nobody loves.

X however is far more menacing. In fact an X assist trophy that infects the character closest to it (except the summoner) and makes a duplicate copy that attacks it would be cool.

The Animals have been saved.

If you'd read some of those space pirate logs, you question their intelligence. Sure, they can kind of science shit, but other than that...

I still remember being disgusted by their tests on morph balls. Why on zebes would they do that?

Sure a sphere shape bomb activated hole is probably the most conveniently used technology in all the galaxy but still....

Can't wait till they start testing on ZSS high heels. Fashionably deadly anyone?

Metroids are not pets. Metroids are not for target practice.
Phantoon?
This guy would beat Ridley any day of the week in my opinion.

Phantoon would practically turn Smash into a bullet hell game.

Wouldn't mind Emperor Ing. Would be a three stage battle where you take constant damage (1% per second) from the atmosphere.

Also would like a Crocomire battle where you have to push him into the lava.

Speaking of boss battles, since we are getting Yellow Devil for mega man's stage you guys think we'll get Eggman or one of those stupid deadly six (pls no) for Sonic's stage?

Speaking of Sonic stages, do you think we will get a classic Genesis Sonic stage for 3DS since Windy hill looks rather large, or a downsized windy hill from the 3DS Sonic Lost world game?

I really hope it is the former, but which one? Chemical Plant Zone, Casino Night, & Sky Sanctuary would be my picks probably. Just no Emerald or Green hill zone this time, please

I'm a little late on the Chorus Kids/Mashal discussion. But I was frustrated with the lack of HIGH RES character art for him, so I went into Illustrator and made this really quick. I hope it's accurate haha

I even added the bow tie as an ode to the DS game! Hope it can be of some use when you guys are talking about him.

Chibi Robo for Smash hoe.

Gah, hes an assist trophy at most

:D

I kind of hope there is a boss version of certain stages and a no boss version of certain stages separate from the final destination versions. While bosses are cool I can imagine there will be times I want to play on certain stages without the fight turning into a boss battle.

Prime 2 has the best scans.
PFC Crany: Last night at chow, Angseth starts talking about some bounty hunter and how she blew up a planet full of Space Pirates. I told her I didn't believe in fairy tales like that, and she took it personal. I just find it hard to believe that one person took out an entire Space Pirate base, that's all. But if she wants to believe in this Samus, or Bigfoot, or Santa Claus, she can.

That would be a really cool concept for a boss on a stage where he keeps pushing you left and you all have to fight him off to the right. Maybe make it a scrolling stage as you push him?

I really appreciate the fact that Metroid already has as many assist trophies confirmed for this game as Mario had in the last one.

Thats because Mario didn't have any more characters to use, they were all playable </s>

I want Shulk to stay away not important enough to Nintendo yet.

Well I think Monolith is actually pretty important to Nintendo now, since X is one of their major 1st party games in the works, and that happened due to the success of Xenoblade. Remember it was localized as part of Project Rainfall through pure fan demand, and when popularity is great enough to have tangible effects it raises some eyebrows. I think Monolith has earned having him in smash

Back on the topic of wants for this game though, have I missed any sort of discussion on RAY from Custom Robo? This game has been on multiple nintendo platforms and was an AT. I think aside from Issac he is the one I would want most as a new playable character.

I like RAY, although I've only played one Custom Robo game.

That would be interesting (And tense, like Icicle Mountain on crack).

Here's some great Space Pirate data.
"After our liberation, she left us adrift. We thought this a test of our loyalty, and so we endured. Some said she abandoned us. They were promptly shot. Disciples do not doubt their leader.

...

As we groveled in awe, she ordered us to follow the beast through a rift in space, a wormhole. Some refused to follow, afraid of the unknown. They too were shot. Disciples must be fearless."

Probably a long shot BUT perhaps Sakurai and Namco have programmed the Boss battles as separate from typical stage hazards since they are interactive and there will in fact be a toggle for them. I know he made mention of PSABR for why there would be no toggle for stage hazards but just maybe that doesn't count for Yellow Devil and friends. Surely he knows it will be annoying for some.

While Rainfall's effect on Xenoblade coming over may be debatable, the one thing it did not do was get it localized. The game had already been localized by Nintendo of Europe. Just thought I'd mention that.

Shulk would be great in Smash, though. I'd even be okay with two Xenoblade reps.

Nice marshal :o.

A level set in Aether would be waaaaay better than any Other M level.

What could be really cool is have randomly appearing portals that you can enter at will. If you are in the light world your percentage drops 1% a second and you are only able to fight others in the light world.

If you are in the dark world you take 1% damage per second and can attack other fighters in the dark world. There could be different properties like dark world having heavier gravity and weaker smash attacks and light world making everyone lighter with stronger smash attacks.

Maybe a way to incentive people to use the portals would be cool. That or just have the entire stage force all fighters into the light/dark world.

Their tests on morph ball technology were morbidly hilarious.

Oh we're talking about Prime lore? I think the best moment of Space Pirates Gonna Space Pirate was the comment in the database from one of the guys mad that they were prioritizing power to more of "Science Team's blunders" than to the powered latrines they were using.

I think it was either then or the entry about their reactions when 2 Samus beings were confirmed to be on Aether that made me believe Retro has great writers. :lol

"Surely, we are cursed."

Does anyone else think that Melee & possibly 64 stages will be the retro picks for 3DS with the Brawl stages being exclusive to Wii U.

I'd be willing to avatar bet on it since Sakurai previously said it was iffy on whether past stages return, due to it being hard to recapture them on 3DS and now the direct showed a melee stage for 3DS and a brawl one for Wii U.

:crosses fingers for Hyrule castle, Sector Z 64 & Fountain of dreams for 3DS:
