Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

This is going to get parroted to the end of time/Nintendo isn't it?

Hater of all things good in the world confirmed.

Soooo you want 3 landmasters then? Just say it instead of talking in circles.

Meh, I don't play as Lucas so its a somewhat selfish desire, but I never saw the major differences between him and Ness. A more advanced Ness persay?

Its so blah to me. Do we really need 3 characters with Side B Dash, Down B Reflectors, Up B Rising Charges and Regular B Blasters? Even with different properties, it feels uninspired... On top of that, you gave all them the damn landmaster! Why didn't Falco have an arwing? Smh

Since there happen to be 19 nice slots left the way its formatted, Let me fill them. *ahem*

1. C Falcon
2. Ness
3. Jiggs
4. Mewtwo
5. Wario
6. Ice Climbers
7. G&W
8. Meta Knight
9. Ganondorf
10. Falco
11. Mii
12. Pac-Man
13. Palutena
14. Chrom
15. Shulk
16. Wolf
17. Ike
18. Chorus Men
19. ROB
FTFY
We should prepare for the worst, for Snake's likely departure.

Which of the upcoming newcomers are you most excited for? Who is the one character you would want playable in Smash that you want to be a newcomer?

If you can only choose one either your current favorite newcomer OR the one newcomer you want the most which would you choose?

Gameplay wise I'm most excited for Greninja, though Mega Man got me to scream more so I guess I'm most excited for him. Well to be fair, one of Ragnell's defining features is that it can shoot energy beams at distant targets as easily as it can stab things. It also increases the defense of its wielder.

On the other hand, it never once lights up with red flames in the games it came from.
It once lit up with blue flames, but that was under special circumstances.
Also, the handedness of Ragnell is a matter of question. given that Ike wields every sword one-handed, even his giant blade Ettard (which is even bigger than the large Blade-type weapons) and the Horseslayer.

So Brawl really didn't reflect Ragnell's special qualities accurately at all. But both Ragnell and the Monado do shoot blasts of energy, so the comparison isn't that bad.

What is the weight distribution of the Monado anyways? How much do energy blades weigh? Not that the metal base looks light...

Ragnell's blasts are completely physical, Monado has ether aka magic arts as well
besides,
if you want to get technical the Monado can be near infinitely larger than Ragnell

Villager is my favorite of the revealed newcomers. I really wanted an Animal Crossing character in Brawl, and its roster felt incomplete to me without one. Mega Man is a close second. He's been my most wanted guest character dating back to Brawl's reveal in 2006.

As far as potential newcomers go, I really don't have any major requests. I'm perfectly content with Villager, Mega Man, and Little Mac.

I'm most excited for Mega Man. He's set to be the most fun to play with what with all those projectiles. Want to pop off that hard knuckle d-air everytime.

Most desired character would be someone from the Castlevania games.
Cmof-simon-belmont.jpg

Maybe Simon Belmont? His entire moveset would be easy to make too:

His A attacks being a myriad of whip moves

Neutral-B to throw a knife

Up-B to toss an axe in a vertical arc

Side-B to throws a cross like link's boomerang but instead it hits continuously for a certain distance without inflicting hitstun

Down-B to toss a Holy water bomb on the ground in front of him, burning that spot for a period of time.

And his FS would be summoning all the Belmonts for synchronized mega buster lasers.

Out of the newcomers, It's def Mac and Greninja. Mac is someone I wanted since Melee and connects with my childhood gaming days. Greninja is one of the coolest new pokemon to be created and is connected with the latest game that really fueled my PKMN nostalgia. It's ill to see him as a full smash contender.

I will main both, but as my main main... Won't know till I play them.

If I had to pick one other person as a newcomer........ It would be Hades from KI:U. I want to see more villains get in the mix. Who better than him?

Sure.

Then she went on to destroy the Worm and free the Chozo spirits. Samus saves the day ultimately and nobody cares that she had help.

You're actually right here because Ridley was fucked up after the fight, although I doubt Ridley could beat the queen either way.

Yes. Nobody is complaining about Samus getting help. She's gotten help since Metroid 2.

The reason people complain about Samus not killing Ridley in Other M is that she doesn't really ever accomplish anything meaningful in Other M, other people do stuff instead. Adam sacrifices himself because he wants Samus to kill the dragon. I was salty because Adam basically walked off with the last level, but I liked that he at least had trust in me to do one simple thing. And yet Samus doesn't kill Ridley, some random Metroid does. So basically, the player gets cheated out of a bossfight, Adam's sacrifice was pointless, Samus doesn't get to redeem herself and I feel pissed at the game.

Bad writing and bad game design.
Or did she? Dun dun DUN!!!

Ridley seemed too weak to move when the Queen came after him. He probably used all his energy just getting away from Samus. He probably could have at least escaped.

Yeah, the ending of Other M is very anticlimactic. It's like they ran out of time and couldn't figure out what to do. Though, despite teasing us with another Ridley battle, she did essentially defeat him. If Samus hadn't been there who would have defeated Ridley or the Queen Metroid? Anthony might have put the brakes on the bottle ship but then what? Would Madeline have shot MB if Samus hadn't been there? Would the other soldiers have been able to get in there if Samus hadn't cleared the way? Maybe Anthony wouldn't have been able to hit the brakes. Anthony might not have been distracted and almost killed trying to help Samus overcome her PTSD, but he wouldn't have been able to beat Ridley if she wasn't there. The plot definitely needs a rewrite, but let's not pretend Samus didn't make a difference. That one guy joked, but really Adam wouldn't have even been able to get in the front door without her :P

Make Ethan a clone of Ganondorf, but stronger and heavier.

Keep the soulless animu eyes. They strike fear into the hearts of his enemies.

Eh, I can dig it.

Greninja is the one that finally got me excited for Smash 4. There's finally a pokemon rep that happens to be one of my favorites, and seems to play well to boot.

And as I've mentioned before, Ridley. Both as a fan of the character and to see how he'd be altered to fit into Smash Bros.

And Lucas is a better Ness. :P

By nature, I should say Greninja. I love hyper mobile characters with lots of tricks up their sleeves. By curiosity I should say Rosalina. I'm eager to sit down and see how deep the rabbit hole could go playing the RosaLuma tandem. By "holy shit this 8 year old in me hasn't stopped jumping up and down" I should say Megaman. The love I have for that series is real and almost as old as my gaming career to date. Seeing it represented in Smash is still mind bogglingly awesome for me even if I've been swayed by a lot of new updates lately.

I can't decide on one between the three honestly.

As for characters I'd want most, everyone knows my top three. Takamaru is my current number one because
Mike Jones is in spot number zero, neither a possibility nor an impossibility
he's the best chance I have of getting that fluid high speed samurai character in any of these games and he brings a lot of other potential goodies to the franchise and playable cast between his additional weaponry, the Japanese aesthetic and his game's bitchin' soundtrack. Palutena is next up because she's the best supporting character in a Nintendo game in forever, the potential is there for a really fun move set thanks to the breadth of stuff KI:Uprising has to offer, and the potential for banter Pit and herself have when put together. Anna is third just for being a totally atypical pick within the Fire Emblem series while also having the potential to play up its diversity both in character and in combat design. Also redheads who love their money.

The runner up to these three is Lip for reasons I mentioned a page or two before, but honestly, if Takamaru and Palutena make the jump, I'll be 100 percent satisfied.

I think you guys are misreading my question, I'm saying you get one either your current favorite new comer OR the one newcomer you currently want most

Edit: I guess I didn't word it clearly enough edited

In order;

1. Villager
2. Greninja
3. WFT
4. Little Mac
5. Rosalina
6. Mega Man

At the moment, the character I want most to be confirmed is Palutena.

Favorite newcomer is Villager. I love Animal Crossing games and the Villager is just such a great and wacky way of translating that series to a fighting game and I love it! He just looks like so much fun and so far he's gonna be the first newcomer I play around with. Mega Man and Little Mac are very close to him as well, all three look fantastic.

Only newcomer that I really want in the game is Chibi-Robo. I love his design, I love the games he comes from, and he has such incredible moveset potential that'd translate over to Smash Bros. perfectly. He'd be a really unique inclusion, I think. I really don't know about his chances (they probably aren't very good unfortunately) but his inclusion would make the roster for me. He really is the only character left that I have a real desire to see in, at the moment anyways.

But shit, if I could only choose one... it would probably have to be Villager. I can't see his moveset being topped in pure creativity and fun factor for me, honestly, even if Chibi got in. But I'd love to see Sakurai try ;)

Which of the upcoming newcomers are you most excited for?
Rosalina + Luma. I like the idea of team characters, and she seems more interesting than the Ice Climbers.

Who is the one character you would want playable in Smash that you want to be a newcomer?

It's kind of hard to say without knowing how their gameplay would end up. I'd love to see an Andy (Advance Wars) who could actually use troops for his attacks, but I wouldn't have much interest if they just ended up as modern weapon specialists.

Same thing goes to Robin/Avatar or Chrom from Fire Emblem Awakening. If they could incorporate the whole "commander" position in their moveset, it could be interesting - somehow calling other units to attack, for example. The class change system could be interesting too - transformations in completely different characters are out, but stat changes and tweaks still seem possible, considering the Mega Pokemon. So, you could have a Chrom with sword, bow and lance attacks as part of a single moveset, but changing to the appropriate class would strengthen one of those attacks while weakening the other ones. It seems like that could be an interesting mechanic considering the removal of the standard transformations. However, if they're just standard swordsmen or swordsmen/mage, although I'd like to play with them anyway, I wouldn't look forward to them that much.

I more & more want Grovyle to be in smash4. Not likely, but still. He's a bipedal grass starter with a better design than Sceptile by far.

I specifically want the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 one, we could get a Time Gear final smash. That and I want remixes for "Dialga: Fight to the Finish", "Crossing the Sea of Time", "I Don't Want to Say Goodbye" and PMD's main theme

Still below Isaac on my WANT list

If you can only choose one either your current favorite newcomer OR the one newcomer you want the most which would you choose?
I think we've done this song and dance before, actually, but I didn't really answer at the time, so here goes anyway. From most-interested announced newcomer and least-interested:

  1. Mega Man: It's Mega Man. In Smash. And he looks extremely versatile. I expect he'll probably end up too technical for me, but from initial appearances, it's all I could ask for.
  2. Little Mac: I like playing fast characters that deal out hurt as quickly as possible, like Captain Falcon or Sonic, and Little Mac has comparable fast but significantly larger hurt. He's going to be interesting to experiment with - depending on how gimped his recovery ends up being.
  3. Wii Fit Trainer: We're starting to edge into characters I'm ambivalent towards. WFT is one of those. I'm not entirely sure I'm going to like her playstyle, but I'm willing to give it a spin. The "charge up your attacks with a timing minigame" gimmick could be interesting.
  4. Greninja: I haven't really paid much attention to this guy, but he's a ninja, which ought to be fun. I'll probably spend too much time hoping that water isn't saliva from his tongue-scarf, though.
  5. Rosalina: There's no way in Hell I'll be able to keep track of both her and her Luma at the same time. I'm really not good with technical characters like that. I like that she's included, though, and expect that she'll probably rank high in the final tier list because of how technical she is, and the payoff of practically being in two places at once would presumably be very high.
  6. Villager: I really just am not feeling this one. His Pocket move looks amazing, but on the other hand, his "grow a tree and chop it down" one looks overly complicated, taking a good four calls to go through the entire cycle necessary for it to be of any use. I'm clearly missing something here, but at the same time, I'm not really in the mood to not-miss it.
My realistc most-wanted right now is Shulk. I think a character who can use the Monado's Arts to buff certain aspects on command, like speed, damage, defense and so forth could be very interesting, and Xenoblade's soundtrack was too good to not include in some capacity.

My unrealistic most-wanted is Banjo and Kazooie, who would already be in Smash Bros. if Rare hadn't taken the license with them to Microsoft. They've got enough bizarre moves in their games that I don't think I need to spell out why they'd be an interesting inclusion.

Between my favorite already-announced newcomer and my realistic most-wanted newcomer, Mega Man and Shulk, I'd probably still go with Mega Man. I mean, Shulk's cool and all, but it's friggin' Mega Man. I can't say no to him.

Between my favorite already-announced newcomer and my unrealistic most-wanted newcomer, I'd go with Banjo-Kazooie all the way. If whatever legal nightmare that would've been necessary to get the bear and bird into the game could magically be cleared up if Mega Man suddenly got cut, I'd totally go for it, since relicensing Mega Man for another day would presumably be a lot less of a headache.

Perfection. Would not change a thing (well, maybe all The protagonists from every game combine to destroy Dracula, which unleashes a stage clearing explosion).

Sal's responses to Smashboard members

http://smashboards.com/threads/ssb4-rumours-and-leaks.338842/page-791#post-16627481

You seem dead set on convincing everyone this leak is wrong. Everyone's free to speculate. As I've said myself, I'm not 100 percent on my source. But there are a few things I should tackle.

Little Mac, Pac-Man, and Mii Missing E3

I'll be the first to admit, I have no idea. There are literally tons of reasons as to why this person could've thought the trio would appear at E3. But even so, things happen, and not everything always goes according to plan. And Little Mac eventually showed. The guy is still backing Pac-Man and Mii, too. So, much like the rest of the rumor, time will tell there.

Pokemon from X and Y

Again, I don't know. This is what the guy told me, so it's what I posted. I don't know how involved he is in the game's development, or how 'inside' his insder knowledge is. There are, again, tons of reasons as to why he might not have known or been able to say the Pokemon's name. Or even describe him at that. Depending on the guy's involvement, it's possible he was only told about a "Pokemon from X and Y" being in the roster.

Safe Guesses

I see this term tossed around a lot. I honestly don't think there's any such thing. There are no safe guesses when it comes to naming a roster. Wii Fit Trainer wasn't a safe guess, as you'll admit, and I don't know how 'likely' (again, this would be a synonym of a safe guess, which doesn't really apply as this newcomer thing can be pretty darn random) Mega Man, Villager, and Little Mac were, but this guy's 4 for 6 on his E3 leaks so far. Which is pretty darn good.

Leaker Not Leaking Other Things Like Stages, etc.

I don't know, I'm not the leaker. Why is this guy only telling me newcomers? Again, I don't know.

Posting a Baseless Rumor

"First, he didn't say he had a source because he wasn't sure that the source was credible. Of course, this is silly because all new sites post rumors regardless of their credibility."

I'm sorry, I'll try to maintain a crappier website.

Seriously, though, that second sentence is silly in itself. If I get an e-mail from "blahblah@mailservice.com" with a list of characters said tipster claims will be in the game, would you expect me to just run with it without first attempting to verify the guy? If I cared more about hits and less about credibility, sure. But that's not me.

Making Things Up

Let's get one thing straight, and long-time followers of my site will attest to this. I don't make things up. Not for traffic, not for anything. My site exists to provide game news in the most excellent way possible. I don't fabricate information. I'm just like all of you in this, and I'd be pretty pissed off if anyone did something like that. Again, I'm still not 100 percent on my source, but so far he's in the green with his 'leak.'

"In otherwords, Sal's website is very no name. How can you improve searches? Why, have a fake rumor of course. And since he got Wii Fit Trainer right, it's even better. Now you can drive hits to your site."

The site is pretty big actually. More hits would be nice, sure. But we average many more hits than I think you'd imagine per day. It's okay, though. You didn't know.

To Everyone Else

I think my talk with Star, as well as what I've written above, just about sums up everything I can think to say. But yeah. No one has to believe the leak. It's fun to discuss, but being dead set on proving these things true or false without further evidence is not really doable at the moment. Unfortunately it's a waiting game and that's what we'll all just have to do. But I'll tell you now, this isn't something I've gone and pulled out my sleeve for hits. There's no debating that.

Edit: Also, to clarify some more, I've tried contacting this guy for more information. When Star mentioned the leaker being too busy to respond, what I said specifically was that the guy seems to operate on his own schedule, e-mailing me when he wants to rather than what I want him to. Star can attest to that.

whoever he was responding to is an idiot
I don't think it was just one person. He was responding to a bunch of people saying that stuff.

Some of the stuff was said on here as well, but not most of the stuff that is on that post. I feel sorry for Sal having to deal with that crap.

It doesn't really change anything though. His response to everything is basically "Well gee, I dunno." Most comments about the rumors are aimed at the leaker rather than Gematsu.

Given some of the posts there in that leak thread and some posts here, some people are aiming at Gematsu/Sal. Either they don't know that Sal is the source, or they know and are posting like that on purpose.

I've always said a Belmont made more sense than snake that moves set sounds great by the way

Just saw the video DisconnectD posted. It was well made and entertaining.

And that reminds me of something I noticed. We haven't seen a single clip of characters air dodging more than once. While it definitely shouldn't be taken as a sign as air dodging can only be done once, it is interesting to see.

Has there been any pre-release Brawl clips showing multiple air dodges?

I think that would be a good middle ground between Melee's and Brawl's air dodges. Only allow for it to be done once (and maybe allow you to do it again if hit), but it doesn't make you go into a helpless state. And no air dodging out of histun crap from Brawl.

Most excited for Rosalina of the announced newcomers. Looks to have a fun, unique gameplay hook, and she's from one of my favorite games ever. The only other newcomer that actually comes from a series I play is MegaMan.

Most desired newcomer is Palutena.

If I had to choose, I'd go with Palutena.

"Safe Guesses"

Does anyone seriously believe this?

"Pokemon from X/Y" is the pretty much the closest thing you can have to a safe guess, if only because it's A) so broad and B) the closest thing we have to a certainty since every Smash has had a playable Pokemon from the most recent gen (and almost always will, given what we know of TPCi's say in the matter).

Beyond that the best you've got are reasonable guesses. Villager/WFT/Mega Man are pretty darn reasonable when you consider how big their franchises are or how desired they might be, but nobody can say for sure what the thought process or rights issues behind picking characters are.
