Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

There's no reason to remove entrances since the animation data from Brawl can easily be reused. I'm sure they'll be back.

Don't know what's going on in this one, maybe the after effects of Flare Blitz?:

Also it looks like Charizard's Flamethrower has extended range:

I can't find the proper version of this pic:

It looks like his down smash.

Something I just realized, with the "no transformation" rule in effect, the Prince of Sable is definitely not our new retro for this game.

I downloaded the Chrono Trigger soundtrack on iTunes yesterday and listening to it now. I really wish we got a Square rep and I really wish it was Crono. A man can dream.

Why have Saki when we can have Isa? ....most people probably don't even know that Isa is the protagonist of S&P2. Actually, most people probably don't know S&P2 exists. :(

I have S&P2 (haven't played more than half an hour) and I don't know who Isa is.

I never touched S&P but I know who Saki is.

In this context, what does "rigged" mean?

They're basically saying they hope the default parameters of the model poses / animations, or "rigs," get a little more polishing done before release. It's not as noticeable in older titles because there were less variables like collision detection, polygons and model bones to worry about, but nowadays with all of the weird body types and potential scenarios that could happen in Smash, there's bound to be some weirdness on occasion.

So.. anyone starting to wonder if this game is actually in 1080p? Yeah we get 1080p screens all the time, but I don't think we've EVER gotten one that's clean. They're all compressed to hell and back. And I'm starting to wonder if what we're seeing is upscaling artifacts more than anything. There's never been a single aliased line with clear 1:1 pixeling, they're always a little bit blurry.

Downgradeton incoming?
nah probably not

I always believed 720/60fps.

I've been wondering this for months. I swear these look upscaled; the diagonals just look too blurry.

I honestly wouldn't be shocked if it IS 720p, though.

Time for some SCIENCE!

JPG with no (or very little) compression:

JPG with quality at 60/100:

That's a pretty significant compression, most places I'd imagine wouldn't compress past 70 or 80. And while the aliasing on that mountain indeed blurs a bit, it's nowhere near the blur we see on SSB4 diagonals.

Here's an uncompressed 720p image:

Here's the same image scaled up to 1080p:

I dunno about you guys, but this is what I'm seeing in these SSB4 shots. This isn't image compression blurring, this is upscaling blurring.

The aliasing in the Smash shots is much smaller though.
