Set up the tree with one chop then throw someone near the tree and use his down smash to bury them in the ground before dropping a tree on them.

Or just quickly plant the tree and use it as a buffer against projectiles while using the Lloyd rocket and his neutral air sling shot to pelt your foe from a distance

Or plant the tree from a high location and chop it down then follow it as you're dropping down on people in a 4 player setting to give yourself some clear space

I can see a lot of ways the tree can be useful

Also, where the hell is Captain Falcon? I know he's not getting cut, otherwise I'm going to have a huge problem with this game. Jiggly ought not get cut either. I don't really play with her (him?), but I know people who have been since 64. Jiggly and Captain Falcon ought to be considered mainline at this point. Cutting them is unacceptable.

My vote's in for Ness too.

And I also would have loved to see some Rare output on the Wii and now the Wii U... Viva Pinata was great and seems like such an obvious fit for Nintendo systems, and I need sequels to Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong, and Banjo Kazooie so bad...
 
I feel like Meta Knight will be the next revealed veteran, that or Ness/Lucas depending on which one's secret and which ones a starter (assuming both are back and one is locked at the start).

I think you can also use it as a defensive move if you hide behind the tree. And you don't have to water the sap directly after planting it iirc, which should allow for some pretty cool tactics.

I'm going with Meta Knight, for Kirby Triple Deluxe's US release on May 2nd. Since he's one of Sakurai's babies, I think he'd take priority over any Mario Golf-related reveal (if there is one) on the same day.

We got two banjo sequels and one spinoff since Rare left.

You're forgetting the Ice Climbers possibility for the retail NES REmix 1+2 in Japan release coming up
 
Ice Climbers will be the next revealed veteran for NES Remix 2's Japanese release, which I believe is later this month?

Villager's tree looks like it could be very interesting strategically. I wonder if it's possible to start up a new tree without finishing the first one? Or are you totally locked in to that single tree as soon as you bury the sapling? Also, I wonder if the tree disappears if Villager dies or if it is persistent until someone breaks it?

I know, and we got a Perfect Dark sequel on the 360 - but none of them were quite the same, y'know? I guess what I'm really saying is that I just Rare's "prime" had lasted longer, and that they'd kept making games for Nintendo.

That's because it was such a "drastic change" they decided to hold off on showing him till they could show footage for him

I put "drastic change" in quotes because Yoshi honestly looked identical besides for his posture

Have we even gotten confirmation that there will be secret or unlockable characters?
Seems to me all characters will be there from the get go and Alt Costumes will be the things we work on unlocking. That's just my hunch though.

Unless they seriously plan to blow 16 characters at once at E3, I doubt it.

The series has always had unlockable characters and I don't see why that would change. I'm not sure it has ever been officially confirmed though.

Sakurai saying Luigis early reveal was an exception suggests that they'll be back.

i think they will be all announced together since they will all be secret characters in the game

but if i have to chose one,i'll say ness

Probably really hard and situational to hit with, but creating a tree in the middle of the battlefield will force players to jump over it to get around it, which you can use to your advantage. I think we saw in a video that you can also hit the tree a bunch to get rid of it, but either way, it forces players to deal with an obstacle that wasnt there before, and ideally, villager can use that to his advantage by being able to place it wherever he wants.

We also dont know if once the tree is planted and grown, if his down B becomes the axe until the tree goes away, so maybe the axe is a strong attack, too.
 
Why do people think Dixie Kong is more likely than K. Rool? Sakurai clearly cares about moveset potential more than relevance, or else Rosalina and Greninja wouldn't be playable.

Also, I predict Wario as the next revealed veteran.

Have we seen if the tree popping up from a sapling causes any damage? That might be of some use too. It'll be interesting to see if it could be a useful edgeguard too.

Both Rosalina and Greninja are incredibly relevant to their respective franchises, Rosalina is playable in the most recent 3D Mario, and Greninja is one of the most popular pokemon from X/Y.

Dixie Kong has the luxury of being relevant AND having an interesting moveset potential, with her whip like hair lending itself to lots of possibilities. K. Rool definitely has potential, but has been all but forgotten by the series.

And Dixie Kong has more moveset potential thanks to being able to use Tiny Kong's abilities in DK64 and her own abilities in DKC:TF
 
I'm guessing the next veteran reveal will be Ice climbers maybe..

But I'm hoping for either Wario or Ness, their expressions will be awesome... I hope so.
