I didn't notice this until I saw "The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot", a special done for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary staring all the Doctors who weren't invited to be in the real special. They make a running gag of McCoy bragging about his big budget film with award winning director Peter Jackson. They even got Jackson and McKellen to do little cameos.
