Pokemon Trainer Andre with a Hawlucha confirmed?
What do you mean? There not being unlockables doesn't mean that the only characters in the game are the ones that have been revealed to this date. They'd just have to reveal all the characters before Smash 3D launches in July/August/September/whenever the fuck.
What is up with those random polls?
A bit unrelated to smash (maybe), but someone on reddit claims he heard that a mario kart 8 demo will be released on eshop soon.
http://www.reddit.com/r/wiiu/comments/23m4gc/mario_kart_8_demo_incoming/
I have doubts he heard the rep correctly, or, maybe the rep had no idea what they were talking about. If we do get a mario kart 8 demo, do you think that increases the chance of a smash demo?
Maybe loading the character moveset or model? Like Zozark would changed into opponent's model or summoner's model?
They won't reveal all the characters before the game is out. We'll know all characters after they've been unlocked.
Here's an incredibly unlikely idea on how they could keep the hype going for Wii U version.
Now we all know that the biggest factor of Smash hype is the character roster. So if we know the entire roster by summer, the hype could fade away for the Wii U version. I've seen some ideas thrown around like certain characters only being accessible when you link the two versions, but that's less than ideal since you're locking out many players from certain characters, and would portray a negative image of Nintendo. So here's what I have in mind:
Are you all aware of the SpotPass function on 3DS? What I'm proposing is for Nintendo to slowly roll out new characters for the 3DS version through SpotPass. All the characters will already be on the cartridge, but Nintendo will slowly reveal and subsequently unlock all the characters through SpotPass between the 3DS and Wii U version launches. Fire Emblem Awakening did the same thing where Nintendo unlocked a new Paralogue every week with SpotPass. Obviously the schedule would be a little different here. Characters will continue to be revealed through Pic of the Day and Nintendo Direct and will be unlocked through SpotPass immediately after being revealed.
I think this strategy is effective for a couple of reasons. One, it keeps interest in the game and the hype going because we won't know of all the characters until the Wii U version launches. And two, it fools people into thinking Nintendo is giving free DLC which paints them in a positive way.
Imagine this scenario: Smash 3DS releases in early August. A couple weeks later, Nintendo has a Nintendo Direct. In the Direct they reveal newcomer Palutena! "Palutena?? But I thought there were no more characters!" Then Iwata says at the end of the trailer "If you own the new Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, you can download Palutena for free right after this Nintendo Direct." Hype would be through the roof I think. And this would continue until the Wii U version launches, with the Wii U version already having everyone unlocked from the beginning.
I know it's incredibly unlikely but I think it would be a decent strategy to keep interest in the Wii U version going after the 3DS version launches.

I don't mean to be rude, but can you read? I specifically said it wouldn't require both versions lol.A absolutely horrible idea honestly, you are basically forcing players to get an additional console or interact woth one to get full access to the game they bought. Your are not getting enhancements or additional content but getting locked out content. Man, locked DLC has taken its toll on the minds of masses it seems.

yes because on disc characters you have to wait to unlock are always fun.
That or he really thinks he is funny trolling and isn't doing any harm. If that's whats happening, at this point he needs to stop.
A good troll (lowering expectations to get a surprise at the end), it's done in good humor and it's even a good marketing strategy. He is not an anonymous person from the internet, he is a developer, some people can think he is funny making the negative trolling, and that he has all the right to do so ("if you don't like it, you know what to do" they will say), but right now he is doing more harm than good.
People that think im taking it too seriously can post the Nofunallowed.jpeg now, I don't really give a shit, that's what I learned from Sakurai trolling. When the game is released, then I can say if he made the right decision or not, as for now I (and same for anyone that's not Sakurai), don't understand what he really thinks and any predictions I can make can't really be based in anything he does, becuase there really isn't a pattern (as much as some people say there is). I will wait and see then.
Wait, Sakurai saying Ridley is a stage boss is him negatively trolling? At this point, Ridley fans are doing it to themselves and I shan't have any empathy for any bitching if/when he isn't playable.
yes your prob right but it also suggest sakurai did not do his research or a jerkYeah. It's the stages of grief, and right now they're all in the denial phase. They're hoping against all odds that Sakurai showing ridley's shadow meant something more than Ridley being a boss character.
Showing his shadow was nothing more than the equivalent of him making players guess the trophy in the other segments. It was for the casual direct viewer to say 'oh, I think that's Ridley! cool!' and nothing more.
If it's all some mega troll, i'll be really surprised (and happy), but I'm expecting nothing more than what it actually is.
that's why ridley is playable right and being teased like it would be a big thing for him to be a bossSakurai and naive are two words that can't possibly be written in the same sentence. He seems to understand his audience way better than many other developers.
Absolutely. Best Link pic ever since the start of the PotD.
That or there'll be an enormous quantity of crow to eat.
Sakurai feels like the type of guy who researches stuff
I don't mind it in a sense because it gives you goals and new things to experience and work towards, but for parties - which is where you really want to play smash bros - you want it all available without any futzing around.
Ridley is only really popular in the US on forums. The character that Sakurai included for American audiences is Little Mac, a character who Sakurai believes is more suited to be playable. He knows we want Ridley so he made him a prominent boss in Brawl and seemingly in Smash 4. You're asking for too much.that would suggest he is in fact naive or a big dick
no he should have showed him and maybe even went into him like yellow devil instead of acting like the fanbase would be so exited for him to be a boss again.

That picture thats running around of the character select screen got posted already?

Fake or not, looks really convincing xD
I'm expecting the 3DS version to have more unlockables for this reason. It seems like it'll be a more individual experience, so it doesn't really matter if you can't just play the game right from the start. This is especially a problem with the 3DS version where it's not like one guy can unlock everything and invite people over to have access to it all like on a console version. If the game has unlockable characters your friends are going to have to unlock them all on their own versions of the game to use them in multiplayer.
Idea
So convincing that the Wario image is a screenshot from Brawl and the Ganondorf one is his art from Twilight Princess.
I think it's a great marketing idea. Personally, I wouldn't hate if they did this. Like some others, I think I would like access to the full roster at launch though. One thing that could potentially ruin the plan though is hackers. People figured out Mega Lat@s on 3DS, they could probably figure out the full smash roster before December.
Yeah i forgot how they actually look and too lazy to look up, still i want the guy from FE: A

We will likely get AR cards, like in KI:U (at least for the 3DS version). But I really don't see how toys and trophies could add to the experience unless they left out significant content that needs to be unlocked with a toy.here's my marketing idea:
skylanders nfc toys/trophies with nintendo history stuff

Over-priced on-disc DLC is an idea which I wish never took off. If they were sold online as an unlock thing, then people would have never supported it.here's my marketing idea:

I personally hope that we don't get anything else apart from just the cartridge/disk. I don't want to feel like I am missing out on content because I don't fork out tons of money for pieces of plastic.
Yep, I want Lucina in too.
Wow, they really were desperate for a Metroid game. You're overestimating the "number" of Ridley fans.
I bet you're one of those people that think people "screamed" for Ridley in E3 during the Melee trailer when in fact it was Samus they were cheering on.
Ridley isn't suitable for a playable character, so he's a boss character. That's why he's hyping him up as a boss character. You're supposed to be happy that he's in at all.
Sakurai seems to think his size is an issue, based on interviews and his role in past games. That seems to be the same here, he's apparently a boss again. Because he's suited for being a boss. I'm walking you through Sakurais apparent thought process.
Why wasn't Rayquaza playable in Brawl?

Here are some things that Sakurai has said that I think the rest of this board might find interesting. This comes from the Sakurai interview in the May 2008 issue of Nintendo Power:
Nintendo Power: How did you go about choosing which characters to include in the final roster? Were there any characters that you really wish you could have included, but weren't able to for whatever reason?[/I]
Sakurai:Of course there were some characters that we couldn't include, but we've decided that we're not going to talk about them. [Laughs]
As far as choosing which characters, we had to really look at the series that would be represented in the game and create a balance that would make fans of all the series happy. We didn't want to have all Mario characters, all Pokemon characters... We looked at each series and tried to pick the characters that would have the widest appeal to the largest fan base. And of course, we looked at games like Animal Crossing and Nintendogs, where there aren't really any characters that lend themselves to fighting, and we decided not to include characters from those series as fighting characters.
One thing that was kind of a challenge is that we haven't had a lot of new characters from Nintendo since Captain Olimar [that could work well in a fighting game]; a lot of games have been Mario titles or new iterations of existing series.
Nintendo Power: There was a rumor at one point about Ridley being playable. Was that ever a consideration?
Sakurai: I think that would probably be pretty impossible. [Laughs] If we had put our best efforts into it, we may have been able to do it. But he might have been a little slow. Would that be all right? [Laughs]
Nintendo Power: We're just glad he made it into the Subspace Emissary. You've talked previously about how Solid Snake ended up in the game, but how about Sonic? How did his inclusion come about?
Sakurai: At the time we announced Snake, we actually put together a survey for our users, asking which characters they would like to see in the game. And a huge amount of people said Sonic, especially in the United States. So in order to satisfy our fans, I thought it was a good idea to try to include Sonic. But that was the thing that put the whole process in motion.

I cant possible imaging why they'd put two Ridleys in the game, one as boss and one as playable character. That's like having Ganondorf as a playable character then ganon/or WW ganondorf as boss character. Yea there different beings but still not enough reason to justify including him. Besides not everyone knows Ridleys back story like its something they studied school. probably 50% of people who will see both Ridleys in the game will ask why are there two dragon things, and why is one so much bigger then the other? it isn't consistent. but whatever this topic is boring me i'll end it with that.
All hail issac as playable character!
Don't worry, we have male Lucina!

Chrom would be nice. A good way to introduce some fresh blood into the Smash series.
Yep, I want Lucina in too.
You can put Pyrosphere on FD mode if it bothers you that much. I'm sorry you hate seeing your favorite character. And what PotD? The one that tells us to ignore when Sakurai says "there are other boss characters" while showing Ridley? I'd like to see that one.I hate that logic it's like getting a game but only get to watch someone else play it but at least you have it right? I can honestly give two craps about ridleys appering as anything but playable. If I wanted to see an unplayable ridley I can just play metroid. Now every time I ply pyrospehere I be constinly reminded of one of the big reason I was disappointed with the roster.
several POTD contradict that
I find the bolded ironic since if he put ridley in the west would crap bricks
Don't worry, we have MALE Lucina!
I hope we see Ice Climbers on Thursday.
