Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Soooo, apart from the usual SmashGAF going crazy over Ridley, what have I missed since last week?

The Balloon Fight stage being 3DS exclusive is a bit disappointing, I was hoping they wouldn't make the stages exclusive to one version or the other.

Absolutely nothing, which I imagine is going to be the course of affairs until E3. :/

You honestly thought there wouldn't be?

Nah, just stating the fact.

not sure if staying in character or just plain insane
Woah.

Without Sakurai Smash would be a steaming pile of...

Please tell me how 2 determinations of Ridley as a stage boss compares to people's interpretations of another individual's intentions. Or do you have something more finite to bring to the table?

This topic has now crossed 2 console generations, it will literally never die... but I'll be damned if I'm not trying to kill it dead!

Basically. My whole reason to quash the discussion is so we don't have to spend a 2nd (maybe 3rd?) Smash release listening to people bemoan how Ridley isn't in it when the only hope of it happening was purely manufactured fandom.

I want Mewtwo and Takamaru in, but I don't drone about it incessantly, nor tell people they're wrong for thinking to the contrary and providing a reasoned factual discourse for why when they can't offer the same, which is how I got so involved in this whole debate in the first place.

Who's droning about it incessantly (aside from Soviet Prince >_>)? It's you guys that keep drive-by posting those "Ridley fans are all delusionals" messages, we just reply back. And again you're talking like you have proof, while we have not, though if you want to get strict, Sakurai NEVER said Ridley's gonna be a boss: he hinted at it but he never outright said it. I'm saying this while being convinced that he IS a boss as well, I just want to show you that in fact you have absolutely no hard evidence, just like us. You're also speculating on the basis of what was shown to us, my point isn't that we have proof, my point is that Sakurai has been so vague and had such a weird behaviour on this whole Ridley thing, that we should wait before saying he's 100% not in.

Also, as I showed in the bolded, it seems you're more invested than us in this whole argument, you actually say with a straight face you're trying to kill any debate on Ridley being in. It's you who are fixated on this whole Ridley thing frankly: just leave alone those who want him in, why do you have to be aggressive?

So we need a new topic huh?

Let's discuss some potential newcomers then? Maybe someone that could be seen as too big?

Any ideas on what could make Chrom really differentiate himself from Marth, Ike, and the rest of the roster? All of the newcomers so far seem to have a "thing" (teleportation, yoga, power meter, etc).

Well we've talked a lot about having his different moves utilize his friends. I think another decent option is to play on the reclassing system and allow him different weapons for each move.

Doshin would probably be one of the most entertaining picks for a retro/oddball character, actually. The US never got it, unfortunately so I wouldn't know his abilities in detail though. :/

I'm thinking of a moveset that works like Marth's Dancing blade on a large scale. He'd be a technical foil to Ike's slow, deliberate strikes.

Has Doshin actually been represented in Smash at all? He'd make a fairly interesting stage hazard/assist trophy what with the changing terrain/turning evil mechanic.

Lucina/Robin pair-up, otherwise he could be almost a carbon copy of Ike considering they share the same signature move.

Nothing, really, which is why I think Robin would make a better candidate for the FE:A rep. If I had to place a bet, I'd predict that Robin has a better chance of making it, but I wouldn't bet too much. It could really be 50/50.

Using the Tactician instead :P

Serious answer: Incorporate the Partner mechanics from Awakening into his B-moves

trophy in melee, possibly brawl too.

That would be cool, but wouldn't it be weird having all of these other fire emblem characters flying in on screen? That sounds graphically intense.

This is assuming the leaked list continues to be right.

This idea actually seems more realistic. It would be cool if all of his moves could flow into one another.

I wonder if there will be similar stages in the Wii U version. They could update that Mario Bros. stage or make a Pac-Man stage.

Despite the fact that I like your gif for first two times but could you save that gif only for Metroid and Ridley related updates please?

Maybe they could incorporate the class change system into his moveset, rather than playing him straight as a Lord? Give him attacks with lance and bow in addition to sword, and maybe even allow him to "change classes" between Lord, Cavalier/Paladin and Archer/Sniper. I'm not talking about transformations that change his moveset, since that's out, but more like Warioman or the new Mega Evolutions - but weaker, not as Final Smashes - stat changes that keep the same moveset. So, Archer Chrom still would have the sword attacks, but his bow attacks would be boosted, while Lord Chrom would focus on the sword attacks and Cavalier/Paladin Chrom would give boosts to lance attacks.

Alternatively, they could attempt to incorporate the idea of him being a leader or commander into his moveset, with his special attacks involving other characters somehow. Mechanically, that could result in very powerful attacks that would have a "cool down" after them, in order to limit it to only one extra model on screen at a time. I guess his recovery could have a partial "bad" version just to not make him utterly deprived of a third jump in some situations.

Personally though, I'd prefer the Avatar as Awakening's representative. All of those ideas could be used for it too, and it's basic moveset is magic/sword anyway, so, even if it ends up as a simple character without some particularly unique gimmick, his fighting style would likely be more unique. Also, the default white haired design would be a break from the other blue haired lords, and it's another character with female and male versions, like the Wii Fit Trainer.

Here's a special stage exclusive to the 3DS version, Balloon Fight!! The stage loops on the left and right sides so you can walk off one side and appear on the other.
I wonder if this includes being launched into the side. That would look pretty funny.

Could it be possible that they would only make it kill you if someone else launches into the side?

EDIT: What I mean by the above question is change it so that you can freely move through the sides and it would wrap around, but if you get launched, it would cause you to be killed. Of course that seems a bit crazy considering that it would be hard to implement that.
I don't care that this is a joke, it is ridiculous that this is real....

It also has different forms.

I don't think we've gotten direct feed screenshots of this stage other than this POTD.

It seems like stages with changing platforms is a common gimmick in this game. That's pretty cool. I like when the game focuses on its improvisational aspect.

He would be a great stage! The characters would fight on his hands and arms, while he watches and holds objects. Then he would randomly grab another object, which would change the layout of the arena.

Lollll, glad that got quoted again. I wasn't ready for it when I saw it last night, I actually busted out laughing for a second. Even more ridiculous than the fact that it's real? The fact that Sakurai is listening.
He is?
