Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

If it was on the cart then you wouldn't have to download a trial pack to play the trial courses.

Season Passes are gross because they don't tell you what you're buying beforehand. Here, they're literally outlining every detail of DLC before you drop any money on it and giving you a better deal on it.

How big is the trial pack?

How big is the trial pack?

It hasn't been announced, but if the game was designed with these trials in mind then they wouldn't have even had to include it as a separate download.

This is another one of those cases where being on-cart isn't even that big a deal, since the content you get unlocked with the game is still worth the (reduced, even) retail price.

Unless the trial pack is a limited time key to unlock the content.
I'm not saying that the base game's content isn't enough, I know it has more than the other games, I'm saying that selling this Season Pass for DLC that was completed before launch is gross.

It's already a time limited trial just by the nature of the way the trail tournaments work, unlock code or not.

DLC is going to be made and sold, but acting like it would have been magically developed in the scope and quantity if it had been done long after release - when the majority of the userbase has moved on - is foolish.

This shows Nintendo's shift. Remember when they announced the NSMB2 DLC and they said something along the lines of "Don't worry, we won't start the DLC until the game launches." This content should have been part of the game and if they wanted to do DLC they could have done more courses after completing the game. Whether or not this is on the cart or not this is the exact same situation as Street Fighter X Tekken.

Maybe the NSMB2 didn't sell well because it came out too later after launch of the game, and Nintendo is trying to fix it. And it's probably not on the cart.

It's actually not, because there's no other sleezy practices going on with the game. They aren't charging standard MSRP for it, they aren't launching with a reduced amount of content, they aren't nickle and diming you in other ways (gems, costumes).

It's not comparable at all.

It's scummy, they are selling a season pass for future content that was finish before the game was released. For all we know it might even be on the cart which would mean we are looking at a Street Fighter X Tekken situation where a massive amount of the content is locked behind a pay wall.
Season Passes alone are gross, but this is even worse.

Yeah, to me this seems like one of the most transparent and honest presentations of DLC I've ever seen. Nintendo's being very up front about what's in the game (which sounds like a great amount of content) and about what DLC packs are coming, when they're coming, and what's in them and what they'll cost and how much you'll save buying a season pass instead.

A lot of other companies do "Season Passes" without any DLC even announced yet.

People whine and complain about how Nintendo doesn't understand the current marketplace and then when Nintendo makes a move that demonstrates they do understand and have also figured out a way to do it without violating their core principles, everyone continues whining.

Mallo NEEDS to be in this, along with a Pushmo stage. Clearly nobody is arguing for it because we all assume he's going to make it in, right?

Technically, 'season passes' have already happened in Nintendo content. Fire Emblem: Awakening had 'season passes' for each 'block' of content. You could, for instance, pre-purchase all of Rogues & Redeemers and immediately be able to play it when they made their weekly releases.

This is hardly unprecedented.

DLC is unacceptable. And i am not just saying it. I have never payed anyone for DLC and, before some of nintendo teams started using DLC, i appreciated what nintendo was doing A LOT (not doing DLC). DLC is still not that common in nintendo games, so i still have hope about nintendo stopping (even if it sounds stupid).

I was really disapointed when i read about the mario golf thing. So, NO DLC for smash sakurai, i trust you :P really.

This seems like an overreaction. Why do you hate additional content?

There is a lot of good DLC out there, seems silly to limit yourself arbitrarily like that.

DLC is a good thing if done right

I trust Sakurai (and Nintendo in general) to do it right

Not all DLC is evil and wrong, some of it is dumb *Cough* $5 per character, overpriced skin packs *Cough* but you've missed out on some good experiences if you view all DLC in this negative light.
Blood Dragon is by far the best DLC that will ever be made, bar none

This.

Really, none of the stuff going on in gaming right now is inherently "bad", it's just that a lot of it is done poorly, or even unfairly. There are good examples of them all (Dota 2 is F2P, after all) and I think after how they handled Rusty's Real Deal Baseball and Fire Emblem that I have more faith in Nintendo handling this well than most other people.

I must admit, a stage that wraps around is fairly interesting. And I agree, the Mario Bros. stage would be miles better if this had been implemented for it.

Easily the best character in that game and in the series as a whole.

Still behind Isaac though.
I like this post.

Although yeah, Isaac is easily more iconic. It'd be neat if his adult form arbitrarily got used, though.

I like the pixel effect, but I think you should tone these back a bit. They're losing their flair since you post them every night. =/
This is getting old.
Despite the fact that I like your gif for first two times but could you save that gif only for Metroid and Ridley related updates please?
The fact that this pops up literally every update is part of the joke.
And a joke is truly dead when you explain it.
Good to see I'm not the only one who's already sick of this. You might as well just edit the "IT'S FUCKING NOTHING" GIF to say "IT'S NOT FUCKING RIDLEY" and post that every night, it'd be about as effective.

The DLC situation is not so black and white. Not all DLC is bad sheesh. I'd rather pay $10-$15 to add to a game than pay full price 1 1/2 years from now for a squeal that adds what could have been DLC.OR worse have to wait 3-5 years for a sequel that may never come.
DLC done right, allows for a game to meet it's deadline while still allowing developers to add stuff they would have added if they had more time during development. As long as the game is released complete I don't see the issue with getting additional content. Getting more Stages, Characters, Items, Alts, Music, in a game like smash that get's released only once per console would be a dream come true.

I haven't seen Nintendo dropped the ball with DLC yet so I'm pretty sure that Nintendo know that they wouldn't done DLC wrong or they would lose good amount of customer base.

I really like 4 major DLCs for Borderlands and Borderlands 2. Also I would like to mention that Fallout 3 have 5 good add-ons.

I own Bordelands 2 and bought Tiny Tina's DLC purely for how much people praised it, still need to play it though. As for Fallout 3, what would you have recommended?
Missed the XBL DLC deal :/

I'd gladly pay $5 - 10 for a DLC character that I really want.

such as Ness WHY ISN'T NESS CONFIRMED YET ARRRRGHHHH

It would be nifty if they are going to do Street Fighter Expansion where they would add 3-5 characters, 4 new stages, 4 old stages, few new items, etc. I know it's totally unlikely to happens.

For PAL gamers the 3DS is the best to play it as it's the 60Hz version. Wii U still has a gimped 50Hz version changed to be 60Hz.

Damn, they didn't go and correct that? The mind boggles...

Well, the Wii U has the XY League stage.

This is a attractive stage for sure.

Trueché, it just surprised me because the original Balloon Fight is a NES game. For Pokémon you could make the case that if they want to take something from the main series (as opposed to made-up, like most of its past stages), they've got no choice but to be inspired on handhelds; the way we've got the Punch-Out!! ring confirmed for 3DS, and I doubt Pikmin won't have stage representation there...

Wasn't Balloon Fight a NES Classic on the GBA?

Yeah, a NES Classic indeed. While personally I'd consider that ports don't make a game handheld, they -are- taking Ocarina Of Time as a handheld stage because of its remake, so what do I know.

Aware of this game (have yet to play it, is it any good? Balloon Trip was ace on the original) but this stage isn't inspired on it, is it? Would be like putting Link's Awakening as justification for making an exclusive 3DS stage of the original TLOZ.

They apparently tried but it wasn't flawless. I didn't bother buying any of the 50Hz games even if they were cheap. But I already had BF on 3DS and Super Metroid for my SNES so I wasn't missing out on much.

Portmanteau of True and touche? I like it.

Also, was the "3DS getting handheld stages and Wii U getting console stages" thing set in stone somewhere that I didn't see? I thought it was general guidelines, maybe some on the forum took it as gospel when it wasn't meant to be?

I just remembered one shitty DLC for Borderland and Borderlands 2 so scratch my comments about it.

Borderland: Mad Moxxi's Underdome DLC was pretty bad since the matches could take forever depend on your luck.

Borderland 2: Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt DLC was pretty bad since the dlc itself had most boring missions ever.

If you are asking me to pick one DLC for Fallout 3 then I would urge you to get Broken Steel. It allowed you to be level 30, and get true ending for your story. (along with other contents.)

Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta could be fun but frustrating at same time. Ugh, I feel like I want to play Fallout 3 again. DAMMIT!

P.S. I currently replaying Borderland because I want to play the game again with my friend before GameSpy shut down the server.

man, I just realized how much all the Fire Emblem DLC is if you bought it all, especially in Japan where there weren't packs
I'm such a sucker I bought them all too lol

And a WW alt please.

that would be impossible since he has a totally diffrent shape then any other ganondorf in the series.
and both alternative costumes shown thus far (wireframe mac and male trainer) have the same exact shape of their counterpart so that it doesn't change gameplay, like being a bigger target or having more reach

Quite good! It's like Balloon Trip, but with boss fights and not controller-throwingly frustrating.

Are Ganondorf's Wind Waker's proportions really that different from Twilight Princess? He actually has a thick built similar to TP's, rather than OoT Ganondorf's muscular physique.

His legs are smaller, due to Wind Waker's art style, but, considering how he's covered by a mantle, lengthening them to match TP's more realistic proportions shouldn't change his design much.

I'd gladly take DLC if it means more characters.

Give me a Pokémon Pack for $9.99 with Squirtle and Ivysaur (if they are cut) and newcomer Hawlucha.
