So my roommates and I got through about 4-5 episodes early on and haven't watched since. Did it get better because it was pretty mediocre in the early episodes. Based on the previews I've seen lately, it seems like they've included story elements that are shaped by the events of Captain America 2 which seemed intriguing, but we want to be sure. They've all been piling up on our DVR.

Should we get back to watching?

IMO it has improved a lot lately. Still far from perfect, but I find myself consistently intrigued and interested, where my attitude the first half of the season bordered on...well, boredom. The Captain America 2 tie-in stuff is working not because of the crossover itself, but because of the effect it has had on the show's universe as a whole.

From the raid to the Fridge (ha ha), it seems like Hydra didn't have sleeper agents inside...does that mean SHIELD was dumb enough to enhance the villains' powers?

Brennan's description of Blackout perfectly meshes with the description.

This is the way they explained it to me: This guy, Marcus Daniels, a.k.a. Blackout, was shrouded in darkness, his soul, everything about him was shrouded in darkness until he comes across this Cello player. And the music was the only light that came into his soul, and it gave him hope and it gave him some sense of what light was. I thought to myself, oh my god, you don’t even need to explain anything else. Because music, to me, is what gets me through most of the time. My kids, my wife, and music. That aspect of it totally intrigued me. I thought that was quite beautiful and very interesting, that aspect of the character.

ALSO, goddammit Ward! I liked Koenig. I wish you got shot in the face. However, loved the horror movie moment when Skye realized Ward was Hydra. I am amped now.

And now she's going full-on honeypot of her own volition.

Also, Ghostbusters!

May's mom is amazing.

DAMN that was the best episode yet

Sure it did not have the Cap 2 tie in but from a pacing/dialogue/suspense/acting standpoint it was spot on. The only shaky element was when they first confronted blackout. The interrogation chamber was wonderful way to help compare, contrast, and solidify the team members and how they fit together, on top of giving us new information on Tripplett (his acting was not nearly as bad this episode).

Agent Eric Kenigh was fantastic, a shame he bit the bullet. In the last episode he seemed a little light to be the kind of guy that Fury would have assigned something to, but he showed how serious and committed he is throughout this episode, as well as his intelligence (you could tell he was picking up on Wards insistence of the hard drive well before anyone else, he just didn't put two and two together fast enough). The fact that he was seconds away from shooting Ward dead in that chair convinced me that he had the chops for Fury to trust him. In this episode he was perfectly funny and perfectly intimidating and serious in the same breath, Patton Oswalt did a fantastic job with the character, and it is a shame we won't be seeing more of him.

All of the scenes at the base, after Coulson left, were legitimately tense, the show was actually working as more than an enjoyable guilty pleasure and making me feel feels man! Ward did some great acting to top it off, and the way and really hit home on that deranged damaged Ward that I was hoping to see more of (the last episode was a little too smirk cheese high on evil for my taste). The way that Skie freaked out and then recovered, and switched into full on honeypot mode earned her some major stripes in my book. There may not be a SHIELD, but she is an Agent as far as I am concerned. She has been a long time coming, but seems to finally be outgrowing the sky is the quirky super hacker with all the quips that everyone else can not stop fawning over thing that has been doing her a disservice for most of season 1.

I dont get why she doesn't just throw the hard drive out a window though.

Also Coulson has been ON for these last two episodes. I hope the writers notice this and we get more serious mode Coulson (with jokes here and there at la saying awesome to all the bad news last ep) for season 2. He has little reason to smirk all the time now. I feel like this is the oft mentioned old Phil Coulson coming out, seasoned by everything that has happened to him.

I actually enjoyed the episode as well.

In my opinion, Ward and Skye's "relationship" paralleled to the Blackout's situation with the Amy Acker's character.
Blackout has a in darkness, his soul, everything about him was shrouded in darkness until he comes across this Cello player. Although, it appeared that Ward has possible genuine feelings for Skye and that he may see her as a beacon of light trying to shine through his darkness.

I know I mentioned that Ward my be a triple agent, but I'm glad I was wrong.

Can't wait to see the last few episodes.

I hope the ratings for this episode and the next go up, now that more people have seen TWS, we are leading up to the finale, there are no more breaks, and the episode quality has been picking up more dramatically than usual.

You mean a triple agent?

They didn't say, but it's probably Department H.

Her mom had a Pennsylvania license plate and drove 500 miles though. They did name drop Department H a few episodes ago though.

Also, random aside, in what episode of AOS did Simmons name drop Stephen Strange? I seem to remember her saying that SHIELD consulted with him, which would lead me to believe that he is actually somewhat active in the MCU.

She never did, not sure which episode it was but the named just sounded like Strange.

Wow, I'm impressed at how much this show improved due to Cap America's plot twist. Like, that was a seriously entertaining hour of TV.

Ward is now incredible compared to how I felt about him throughout the beginning of the season. Might even make rewatching the show enjoyable with the idea that Ward was HYDRA the whole time. Might.

There's a pretty great scene at the end of that episode at the SHIELD Academy where Skye is looking at the wall of the names of dead agents and Ward is just standing in the background, smirking knowingly. At the time, I thought it was just not-so-great acting, but now it's a kinda neat little easter egg.

I feel like Fits just wants SOMEBODY. I mean, he was making the eyes at Sky before it became clear that Alpha Agent wanted her. May's outta question so there's the one female I as a viewer thought was his sister for most of the season... and now he's getting out Alphaed again.

In the comics, there's a little Joss Whedon-invented organization called SWORD that's focused on inter-species conflict.

If that tie in happens, then the thread title for season 2 should be:

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. [s2 OT] You have my S.W.O.R.D.

and was it implied that May had beef with Hill?
possibly over letting Fury get "killed" or something? and was her mom's license plate supposed to mean something?

So Skye totally left a message to the rest of the team on one of those fake rotating windows right? That's the reason they panned to it once she found out.... right?

I thought she was asking if May was going to take Maria out to dinner and a movie. Woops!
