Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Here's what I'm expecting:

O6S3AlN.png

But Shulk's not going to be playable, lol.

No, not like DK. DK is short for Donkey Kong. Mii isn't short for anything.

...What are you talking about? This is the Animal Crossing logo, and its Smash emblem is a leaf. This is the F-Zero logo, and its Smash emblem is Captain Falcon's crest. This is the Metroid logo, and its Smash emblem is the Screw Attack/suit upgrade. (And so on with the other series.)

I 100% see your point, but Miis don't have any symbol in mii-only software other than the Mii logo which says 'Mii'.

The crown can be used as a symbol to represent Find mii, but not much else. If the mii is pulled directly from find mii (sword, color powers), then sure, the crown is fitting.

The smiley face isn't really recognizable as belonging to 'Mii.' Not yet anyway. The screw attack, falcon's crest, the leaf, etc, are all easily recognizable as belonging to those franchises. The only 'symbol' that is easily recognizable as belonging to 'Mii' is the actual 'Mii' word, unfortunately.

I agree, but I really don't think that matters. When Mega Man was revealed a lot of people complained about the gear emblem.

The Xenoblade logo will be the Monado. It plays a major role in the game's plot, appears on the cover and title screen, has a distinctive silhouette, and is Shulk's (who is the only character to have a realistic chance of being playable) weapon for most of the game.

I'd put Shulk's chances at maybe 70%. Smash does want some new IP representation. Sales-wise Xenoblade might not have done incredibly well, but that's partly down to it being under-printed (see how much used copies are going for), and I imagine the overlap between Xenoblade's and Smash Bros' markets could be bigger than that between Wii Fit's and Smash Bros'. And low sales didn't stop Lucas and Ike getting into Brawl (though admittedly they're from existing franchises).

Yeah Shulk would be really cool but hasn't Xenoblade sold > 1 mil globally? Seems pretty niche to include Shulk with such low sales. Most players wouldn't know who he was.
You mean like Roy, Ike, Lucas, iceclimbers etc.... Also most people actually playing had no idea who ROB was. Sales don't really seem to be the measure of who is in or out.

"I'm not offended by people pointing out my english errors since it would be helpful for me to learn from my own mistakes"

There you go, Heath :) :is a grammar Nazi:

No period at the end, and no capital 'E' in English? What kind of grammar Nazi are you?
And "it helps me learn from my mistakes" would be more appropriate.

I can't really place it, or why, but the gear logo seemed perfectly appropriate for Mega Man, and instantly felt like a good fit (to me at least). Trying to think if that gear icon has represented him elsewhere, but it seemed familiar. The smiley face does not give me the same feeling.

I just hope he doesn't talk about the Monado when taunting etc. I get so sick of that word while playing Xenoblade! "The power of the Monado!" "Unleash the Monado!". In the cutscene it almost reaches parody levels...it's a really important element to the plot but maaan.

Was about to say that at least it outsold ice climber on nes, but apparently nope:

vg chart z or whatever says:
North America: 0.46m 30.9%
+ Europe: 0.10m 6.7%
+ Japan: 0.92m 61.3%
+ Rest of the World: 0.02m 1.1%
= Global 1.50m

Dunno how accurate.

According to this page, it's outsold earthbound/mother 3, though:
http://earthboundcentral.com/2009/02/earthbound-series-sales-figures/

Japan North America Other Regions
MOTHER ~400,000 0 0
MOTHER 2 (EarthBound) ~300,000 ~140,000 0
MOTHER 1+2 (original) ~240,000 0 0
MOTHER 1+2 (reprint) ~80,000 0 0
MOTHER 3 ~400,000 0 0

never use chartz, you're probably better off pulling random numbers out of your ass

In a sense, Xenoblade is like a modern day Mother/Earthbound (minus the fact that Itoi worked on it). It is a critically acclaimed series/game that did not sell a lot, but was popular amongst fans and has good word of mouth. Xenoblade also has a sequel/spiritual successor coming out for it on the Wii U. It is something that represents Monlith Soft as well which has been an integral part of Nintendo throughout various games, though this point may not matter.

It also helps that Sakurai knows what Xenoblade is lol.

This is how I see it as well. Summed up my thoughts pretty well.

Mother/Earthbound also had the benefit of already being a series (with a third game on the way, but in development hell) and close ties to HAL. Xenoblade doesn't really have that yet, though X might end up being a true sequel - we still know next to nothing about it.

I said they are logos, not that they are specific logos. Your assertation is that Smash logos are based only on items. The leaf is Tom Nook's logo and represents all furniture. In New Leaf it became part of the title logo. The F-Zero logo is the emblem on Captain Falcon's helmet. The Metroid logo is similar to the screw attack but the screw attack has always been a lightning bolt, not an S. I think that logo originated from Smash and then became the logo for the franchise itself. The icon came to represent suit upgrades in Prime.

You stopped there as if your point carried across to the rest, but the Star Fox logo is the Team Star Fox logo from Star Fox 64, The Earthbound logo is the Mother logo, MGS' logo is the Foxhound logo, and DK and Wario have letters representing them.

Goddamn I swore that I did < 1 mil but guess not. But I meant this is a game that sold under 1 mil so I could understand the others. Ice Climbers and R.O.B. were new representation from NES era. Fire Emblem is a bit different since there's been multiple games and it's a series that's been with Nintendo since the NES. Same with Earthbound, so I figure even if these series aren't big sellers, they have legacy that Xenoblade doesn't

Nah, the Screw Attack was always an S, and was an icon of the series well before Smash Bros. Here's the item in Super Metroid:

And here it is again in the end credits of the same game:

I know, but none of that is what I'm talking about. Maybe I wasn't clear with my use of the words logo and emblem.

In Smash Bros., there are two kinds of logos/emblems/whatever you want to call it per series. For the sake of simplicity, let's just call them "title logos" and "icons." The icons are the smaller logos used on the official site, and they are symbolic of the series themselves.

"Mii" is a title logo, so it would require something new for its icon. My justification for the smiley face is that it appears in the Mii title logo (just like the Mother icon), and because it is also used in the Mii Channel:

I really can't think of anything more suitable.

Looking at them there, are we sure they're both the screwattack icon, and that the S icon at the bottom isn't some sort of 'Samus' Icon, which is what is used for smash.

I think the 3 silhouettes standing next to each other, similar to miiverse might work

I was in a hurry and forgot the one from Super Metroid. The logo is not the screw attack. The one at the end is very clearly meant to be a logo for the franchise. It's similar to the screw attack but not the same.

I thought that it was sprite limitations that led to the screw attack looking like a lightning bolt, since I figured that the "S" stood for Screw.

Either way, the Metroid logo first appeared here, not in Smash Bros.

I thought it would be the E Tank, but I'm not really a MegaMan player so I don't know too much about the series to be honest.

The E Tank isn't much of an icon in the series, but then again neither is this generic gear. The helmet would've made a bit more sense.

I never thought about him but that's a good choice. He would be awesome and unique rhythm character. I forgot how much I enjoyed the demo for that game. that boss tho...

It was a great concept for a game, great character, art style, music. Shame the game's difficulty curve was frustrating beyond belief. I'd be fine with Tempo as a character.

The reason the other Franchises titles would not be suitable is because the titles are too long and are not, themselves, icons. Mii is small enough to work like DK and W. It is both a title and an icon. Especially if they do it like this:

Well honestly all I can go with is what I've seen and I've seen a lot of E-tank related merch that's all.
