Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

They went with a gear because we're going to get another playable Mega Man character.
X will be playable oh and please don't take this post serious.

I wasn't bothered by the Mega Man icon until I looked at it again.

:(

I swear I've seen that gear in something else mega man related.

Sakurai didn't just make it up for smash, did he?

I can't just be thinking of metal man's stage, can I?

That's what I thought of as well, but it seems very odd to choose an icon that represents a stage in the series rather than something that's more iconic. I'm just guessing the gear icon was a custom one by him.

The choice to represent Mega Man with a generic gear just utterly baffles me. It's such an odd choice. He could've used Mega Man's helmet, the classic 1-up, the E-Tank, the Dr. Light logo, even something like a large energy pellet. And yet, random gear. It's not even a Metal Blade! I don't get it.

Yeah it does
Ooooh. The plot thickens?

Doesn't the crown Icon also represents which Miis are your favorites?

It'd make sense.

Yeah it does

Hard to find a picture of the crown on mii-maker:

vs the one during the direct, which is clearly only for find mii.

Other ideas for mii icons:

The walking mii on check mii out

Smiley face with circle around it (for mingle!)

I think I wouldn't have said 'Ew' to the smiley if it had the circle around it. That makes it a bit more distinctly mii-like.

I would guess that it'll be the Mii logo if only because Wario, Yoshi, and DK have the same symbols in Smash and Mario Kart, and the Miis use the Mii logo in Mario Kart.

And that's my bad about the metal blade. Guess it just makes no sense.

The problem is that there isn't really a good icon for Classic Mega Man. Every other incarnation of the series does have a good icon, such as the X symbol for Mega Man X, Megaman.exe's icon for Battle Network, the Z icon for the Zero series, Geo Stellar's pendant for Star Force, and so on. However, there really isn't a standard icon for classic Mega Man or the franchise as a whole.

Stuff like the classic 1-up might work, but I think it would look a little creepy when blown up to the size of a screen (such as during a match results screen where Mega Man wins). The energy pellet would just look like a circle when made monochromatic, which isn't very helpful or clear.

Best I can think of is the Yashichi, but that is more of an icon for classic Capcom in general, and not very recognizable.

There isn't anything other than the 1 up, i think, that's in every single mega man game. It would just look weird as his icon.

The E-tank is one of the most recognizable, but debuted in mega man 2.

The screws/bolts are pretty recognizable also, but didn't appear until.. what, 7?

Helmet would have worked really well, but alas, it was not chosen.

Actual sprite for metal blade:

Official artwork for metal blade :p

It's definitely not the same as his logo, but the sprite looks about as similar as anything else i can find.

I really wish they had used the helmet, something along the lines of this:

E-Tank would have worked wonders, too. But alas... a gear it is.

I was thinking something front-view, like this:

While Mega Man's generally fighting Wily's mooks, he's never struck me as a purely "bred for war" kind of guy and some of his incarnations have human levels of empathy and compassion. Since Smash Bros. generally takes the most combat-fit adaptation of any given character, maybe it's implying that SSB4 Mega Man is purely a war machine?

I think they just wanted to give him the best/creative weapons they thought would fit for this game. Have you read the Archie Comic series? It really touches on his compassion, especially in the early issues. It's a great for Mega Man fans.

Yeah, the text at the top is gibberish, the Wario picture is taken from a screen on the Dojo, the Ganondorf picture is from a photograph of a figurine, and Ice Climbers are referred to as just "Ice Climber" in all Japanese Smash Bros.

Yeah, it has been debunked several times over, a lot of the text in the top is simply gibberish among many other issues.

Was it posted previously in this thread and I just missed it?

I need all decent fakes posted plz. :p

Whoops, I'm dumb. I meant that with regards to his weird gear logo, not the concept of his character in general.

I don't want to bring unnecessary hate this guy's channel because I like his videos but this video Smash Bros Direct! - Post PAX Wrap Show and Trailer! - Part 5 made me want to ask you guys on his opinion on the for glory mode and items in competitive play.
To be fair, they make it quite clear they are not really in to Smash Bros so they are not going to understand all the ins and outs of the tournament rule arguments. I mean one of them just hears that FD is flat and instinctively says that sounds boring so they are not exactly going to have a positive attitude towards the For Glory mode rules when one of the key components is seen as boring. The "chairman" of the group does use his own opinion to inform the others thus colouring their opinions which could be seen as wrong because while the group seems to unanimously agree that For Glory sounds boring the reality is four of them only formed that opinion based on the info provided by the chair.
