Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Isn't tripping the only thing that made it terrible in Brawl?

The inputs were harder too and slowed down right ? NM

Dash dancing was ineffective even with tripping disabled. It had to be "fixed" in Project M, I think the window was ridiculously small and you couldn't turn as quickly or something like that.

Oh man! I hope so. I had no idea they did that with the PAL ver. of melee. Did they do it with Brawl or was the release not as staggered?

They didn't do it for Brawl because of online, they didn't want regions being unable to play with each other. If the PAL version of Brawl was different significantly (in terms of character changes) then there would be desyncs all over the place.

The release was pretty staggered though, it came out in like June for EU & co. All because of localization (all those damn languages lol).

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought besides his weak recovery, Little Mac's aerial attacks did significantly less damage with significantly less knockback than his ground attacks. So Rocket belt won't fix that

We don't know how the rocket belt works for sure, but it does seem like all his aerials are ass.

It was a joke, though the main point of the rocket belt is recovery and that is most likely Little Mac's greatest weakness, hence if you can stay on the stage, he will dominate. (Presumably)

Smash is gonna break so many circle pads... At least it won't be as destructive as Melee.

Melee on the 3DS would be the most expensive video game ever, because you have to keep buying new 3DSs. :-p

But won't be nearly as bad as the transforming d-pad for non-fight stick users :P

considering 3ds has a shitty circle pad and like 3 buttons they better play differently

Ice Climbers is literally unwinnable if the Ice Climbers player can chain-grab, since every approach Ganon has can be punished with a killing grab thanks to his shitty range and speed. Ganon also has to approach because he lacks a projectile and the Ice Climbers will be throwing ice blocks.

Why does everyone think people will use the Circle Pad? Smash uses a directional combat system, DPad is a superior advantage. Don't know why you won't use it.

Well for Melee/Brawl, the D-Pad was used for taunts, so I fully believe the circle pad will be used for 3DS

Because analog control is well done in these games. It definitely feels wrong to try playing without it. Dpad might still be reserved for taunting on 3DS, we don't know.

Smash is a good example of why every analog stick should have octagonal gates though. GCN stick was perfection.

Nice. I sorta remember dash dancing being bad in Brawl but could never tell for sure since 9x out of 10 I'd just trip lol.

Shouldn't be an issue with Smash 4 since they could just do an online patch on both platforms, right?

Some new screenshots of ZSS were uploaded to the Official Facebook page 5 hours ago, including this gem:

People seem to forget Smash games have customisable controls.

Circle Pad will only break if you jolt it around like some idiot.

I've said this countless times, I have played hundred's of hours of SSFIV and MonHun and this thing is perfectly fine.

Man, I really gotta get a CPP before Smash hits. I can't stand to go back to regular analog+A smash attacks. Especially with that circle pad being as "non-grippy" as it is.

Ninty should commission madcatz to make a dock/arcade stick peripheral for the 3dsXL.

like a TE fightstick that you stick you 3ds on.

Not a fan of fight sticks and also don't think Smash Bros. style is a good fit for that control format but more power to those who do and I hope they get something like that.

taunts are reserved for the d pad in all iterations of Smash bros. though. Did you forget?

I could be wrong but I think I used D-Pad in custom brawl controls

If his neutral B works the same in the air as it does on the ground, it will be superior to side b since it has more range than even QuickDraw

We can only hope.... Neutral B could be completely nerfed in air. I really think Mac is completely nerfed in air. Only way to balance him in game because he really is pretty much broken on land.

That would be pretty cool. Can't imagine something like that ever getting much support, but I'd definitely be interested in trying it out. Edit: But yeah, I don't think an arcade stick would be good for Smash. I tried it a little with PSASBR, and even though movement inputs are digital, it still didn't feel right for this type of game.

Good point. It may not even charge or if it does, he just whiffs the move and flails awkwardly instead. Would be hilarious seeing it charge up in the air the first time, expecting a powerful attack/recovery attempt and then nothing

You are wrong lol. The D-pad could only be switched with other taunts in vanilla Brawl iirc. The only control scheme that allowed D-pad control was the lone Wii Remote.

Interesting. I played Classic Controller when my GC controller broke. I swore I was using the DPad to move... I guess it was an analog then. Interesting.... Nobody finds it weird you can't play with the DPad and move lists consist of :

→ A
↓ A
← / → + B

etc. etc.

Tripping and the fact that the dash animation was too slow. Inputs are harder too, I think. (Haven't touched Brawl in a while so I'm not too sure)

The game also felt very floaty due to engine tweaks (maybe for gliding to work..). It really changed the speed of gameplay for me. I noticed "heavy" characters like DK and Bowser were faster. Still to this day I don't know if Ike was suppose to be a full heavyweight or a "light heavyweight". I use to dominate with him since his power was crazy and I still wasn't all that slow as I should have been (or may have been intended to be)

You can dash dance in the sense that you can move back and forth. Not in the sense that it's good or offers quick versatility or high mobility like it does in Melee.

NiGHTS is a good example of why every analog stick shouldn't have an analog gate. I've heard doing a smooth circle in Journey of Dreams was more difficult than it needed to be, thanks to that thing.

I find it to be A: a little unnecessarily condescending and B: just plain uninformed when people refer to Brawl as "vanilla brawl". For the former, you have actually go out of your way to add an extra adjective when brawl suffices since there is a distinction between brawl and project m. The latter because the adjective is inappropriate since vanilla is one of the most addictive stimulants in the natural world lol, look it up.

True. I know my circle pad will not last too long :/ they will definitely sell more 3ds
I've played over 100 hours of Kid Icarus Uprising (which relies a lot on smashing the analog slider) and another ~80 hours of Dead or Alive (that's when I noticed you could just use the Dpad lol) and the slider is still perfectly fine. Calm down, everyone.

Brawl+/Brawl-/Balanced Brawl/etc. exists too, you know

But vanilla is a boring flavor, so it's appropriate.

Since we're talking controls... am I the only one using the jump button in Brawl? Do you just jump with "up"?

What about the competitive scene? Is there some kind of consensus on that?

I always found buttons were better, if only to make up smashes and tilts easier.
