Fighting Games Weekly | April 21-27 | Easter EG Hunting

I don't know if Justin can do high profile money matches. I definitely haven't seen him do any if you know what I'm saying.

Basically don't expect a stream.

I'm guessing neither justin nor floe will be at super arcade tomorrow. a lot of hubbub last year about them coming for sega cup then neither made it through pools.

here's a cvs2 match I recorded between them that day

IIRC, it was at the Hello Phoenix/Goodbye Phoenix UMVC3 pre-release invitational where Justin said that EG doesn't allow their players to money match.

Will you be there tonight? I demand a shoutout

I'll be there. I've never been on camera there, I prefer to stay behind the scenes and leave that to the pros. If I'm on for some reason, I'll give a shout for sure.

I would like to ask you good folks a question

Almost never nowadays; I play at Evo, and when I go to 2O2F.

Funny how Justin is trying to play Claw like it was ST (which you can, to some degree, hell, it's what I do in CvS2)

Go for it man, I think it's like $5 on PSN/XBLA. had all sorts of crazy stuff like air recovery, moves with a few hits of armor ... had walls before VF did. It's fun.

sorry bout the shitty gif

You houuuuuuuuuuuuu

Yeah, Sanford is definitely one type of visionary the scene needs, definitely. SoCal, take notice. Y'all have gotten way too buddy-buddy happy-smiles and WNF is putting me to bed.

Start by putting Snake Eyes on notice.

There's definitely more people in EMP than just Sanford and Die. There's Yipes, Knuckledu, and Dragongod for starters.

I think this is just a re stream with commentary no? I think I watched these matches already. LOTS of Akimo Elena and a lot of Daigo Ryu (I think). But Elena seems to counter Ryu quite well.

No idea, looks live, but well...I haven't seen any of this, so it's cool to me

I would like to ask you good folks a question.

How many hours per week do you spend playing fighting games? This includes training mode, online, playing local versus, etc...just the total amount of time spent playing fighting games per week.

I work a shift where I work seven days on and have seven days off. I've worked this shift for five years now, and I only play games during my week off. As a lover of video games, I find it hard to dedicate much time to fighting games because with only seven days off, there's a lot of other games and just general other activities that I want to spend time on, so my competitive interest is waning. I still very much enjoy fighting games, but my time spent on them has been small lately.

So with all that said, I've been spending probably two-five hours per week-off on fighting games for the past few months. What about you folks?

With all the school work I've had to do this past semester, along with the weekly meet up with friends, about an hour or two a week. Most of my time at home is just spent practicing characters.

And Kumubou, thanks again for all the other Melty Blood tips. The character suggestions definitely narrows things down a bit.

I wish english players would stream themselves studying their own matches.

PR Balrog mentioned that he had started to study footage of himself (Like Daigo). He has also said he is not interested in streaming AE online play anymore. Someone should suggest this to him. Two birds With one stone if you ask me.

Also Arturo could totally do something like this, but he has done it more with thorough analysis of sets in a tournament (And most of the time not himself).

We're all sitting here waiting for KingBlackToof to stage a comeback and release an arcade version of the USF4 mod.

i wanna practice commentary and match analysis, but analyzing my own matches feels egocentric. i would rather break down some really high level VF - maybe I'll get some good american shit tomorrow. otherwise, im practically drowning in japanese footage.

Has anyone been able to kill a character from 100% health off red focus gray damage before they can squeeze out the FA?

sounds like a job for desk, lol

oh man, can't wait to see what desk will do with red focus

another thing I read people talking about but haven't seen anyone doing it yet: ex red focus on block acts like lvl 2 focus. If that's true, it's...kinda broken

Hmm I don't really see how 3 bars for some frame advantage to continue pressure is broken?

Yeah, I don't see 3 bars being used to keep pressure as broken unless it offers a noticeable amount of guaranteed damage

Using Red Focus is a lot of fun against Bison players. 5 years of scissoring through FAs has given them bad expectations.

Still, fuck Balrog though.

doesn't it crumples?

It does. I see what you are saying. Pretty much using the level 1 crumple properties as a frame trap off of nornally negative or punishable moves. I was thinking the same thing since they announced the mechanic. It all depends on the set up though & finding good set ups is the tricky part.

& No it's not broken

I heard it here

@jchensor @biosnake @ultradavid ok, I'll just take back my statement. All I know is a blocked ex red focus is automatically a level 2 focus

It's probably related to block stun then

Chris G vindicated.

Putting more data of yourself playing out there for the world to see (in games you're competing in) is a net negative when it means other players have more ammo against you.

It's happening today!

Mark Robson made this graphic for 2 Old as well:

The words are kind of counterproductive, as it's currently really hard to get people to give a crap about old man games/streams (as you recall, for the 5 people that watched I broadcasted during SCR and got destroyedddd with only 300~ viewers) but that graphic is nice. :)

About 5 ish. I only play nowadays at a local bar/lounge.

Morrigan doom matchup is so unlike anything else in Marvel, you need actual live practice to really have a good strategy against. Given how much leeway you're given in a 3/5 set in Marvel, if you ever match yourself against ChrisG, a training mode only strategy can only take you so far. It's why the person who's had the most success against him is Flux. He played him every single week.

It's different than say Daigo, where he's playing the most straightforward character in the entire game. Everyone knows the Ryu matchup.

The thing is, if you're using red focus just as a frame trap, then you might as well be using normal focus which crumples on level 1 counterhit anyway.

Hmm, ok, so basically it's to get the extra six frames of advantage from a blocked level 2 versus a blocked level 1. That won't benefit all characters equally though, like Chun-Li goes from +1 to +7, but T. Hawk goes from -7 to -1.

If it looks like a regular ex focus then that certainly could be sneaky way to start a frame trap, rather than apply it as one.

It looks like there are 6 members, at least according to their website?

Does Triforces power glove count?

I would rock a shirt with that Skullo imagery for any amount tho
