One the one hand, it's a totally made up Final Smash that doesn't really make much sense and exists only as fanservice.
On the other hand, it's fucking fantastic fanservice and shows more care for the franchise than we've seen out of the owner in the last ten years.
Bottom line: At least it's not the Zero Laser.

Being a cinematic makes me think it's more along the lines of Blue Falcon.

One X4 is great. And the X games even the shit ones have better robot designs than OG megaman.

Triple Finish doesn't change the arena or floor they're standing on, though.
I guess it's possible that it's an unrevealed stage, but that'd be weird.
It's probably just an intro cinematic to the move, similar to triple finish, only much more detailed, and then it cuts to them actually shooting a horizontal beam on the stage. That's my guess. I'd rally rather it not require a melee hit first.

Yeah, the X series did have awesome Reploid designs, it was cool that they didn't tie themselves to humanoid robots, but I still love the OG Mega Man robot designs too.
Triple finish also starts out cinematic iirc, then as soon as the beams comes out it goes back to the normal view.
Been forever though so idk

I generally liked the megaman designed more as that plot went on. My favorites would just be Go from ZX advent and go backwards all the way back to OG if I were to come up with a list.
I put megaman last on that list ( it isn't a bad list at all ) because there are very few times where people draw an appealing megaman design most of thet time he is lanky for some weird reason, or not small enough. Smash 4 megaman is the best OG megaman.

I want the Wii U to have a Pokemon stage from Red/Blue full of remixes from gen 1 to get me all nostalgic.
If Mewtwo isn't playable make it Cerulean Cave and have him as a stage hazard.
Oh god. The reactions to Ridley being a stage hazard have been crazy, I can't even imagine the reactions of Mewtwo as a stage hazard.
A closeup of the Pokemon is a bit different from a sudden shot of all five Mega Mans, but it's not like we can really tell until we see an actual match where it happens.

Seeing X in Mega Man's final smash gives me hope that we'll actually get some music from the X series. My guess is Central Highway. I would love to see a full Central Highway stage, though:
I feel it could work as either a typical stationary stage or a side scrolling stage. I found this image on Google. It looks to be from a fan-made Smash Brothers flash game. This is pretty much what I had in mind. Instead of the yellow devil you could have one of those giant bee things, and the road could have chunks that fall off after too much stress.
Another stage I think needs to happen is either Bowser's Castle or Bowser's Airship. And I'd also like to add my name to the list of people who want a Metroid stage that isn't a lava cavern. Tallon Overworld or Phendrana Drifts please.
And while I'm guessing K. Rool's stage will be Gangplank Galleon and will feature the song of the same name, I'm hoping Jib Jig makes it in as an alternate track.
This could be a decent place to remake a Saffron City stage.

As much as I like classic Megaman, I have soft spot for X. He being playable, with a Zero assist trophy would be amazing.

That would rock (haha, get it?), but it makes sense to go with the original Mega Man for a game like Smash. I'm just so glad the other versions are getting representation in any form at all. I think we can safely guess there will be some more Mega Man love in the form of ATs, yeah? Eddie can drop off food, if nothing else.

They look great and sound great, and certainly drummed up a lot of hype based on people not believing the sort of presentation values they were seeing come out of a handheld in 2001. But they don't play great, whether you're talking about the Zelda-lite puzzling or the "spam summons" combat, and the plot and dialogue are so trite and boring that they would've significantly improved the game by scrapping every word of it.

Today's pic of the day is automatically the best ever even if it's really just a still from the Direct, because it's Mega Man's fucking amazing Final Smash. It STILL gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. Sakurai loves us Mega Man fans, he really does!
I also love - and this is something few people other than hardcore Mega Man fans would notice - that they're all firing in stances that are true to their respective games, except for maybe Trigger. For example, X is holding his buster from underneath, which he does in X4-X6, and MegaMan.EXE is firing just like he does in his sprite from all six Battle Network games.

I tried playing Golden Sun once and couldn't get into it all. The characters all seemed pretty flat and boring and the gameplay wasn't special enough to keep me hooked. Maybe I just didn't get far enough.

Okay, I'll take that bet assuming you mean he'll be revealed as a playable character, not as a boss character. The obvious difference between Ridley and all of your examples is that he clearly showed us that he was just joking with those examples.

Sakurai needs to make this happen for the fans! I can't think of two other characters who hold as much weight with the fans as those two, other than Mega Man who already got in. Even Bomberman probably wouldn't make as much noise as those two.

Waluigi was confirmed as an Assist Trophy long before the Direct, and the Waluigi plushie only appeared on Sakurais desk during the Assist Trophy segment. There was absolutely no trolling going on there.
You know what else takes the form of a shadow and isn't trolling of any kind?
Which is all i'm betting that it actually was.
Any metroid fans clearly knows who it is, but maybe someone who hasn't played metroid is forced to figure out what it is, or wait for the official reveal later.

The shadow in Pyrosphere doesn't mean he can't appear as a playable character, you're absolutely right, nothing is confirmed yet.
To me though, that seemed like a tease rather than a troll, letting you know that Ridley will be in as a boss but not showing you his full glory so that it can be revealed at E3.

If Ridley doesn't get in can some people please help me badger press sites who will eventually interview Sakurai and have them question the Ridley subject? I'd do it myself but this year isn't looking to likely for me at E3.

I didn't use NES Ridley for a few reasons: stylistic clash, original Japanese character art doesn't really have eyes that you can make narrow, ZM Ridley is NES Ridley, I chose Ridleys that had something different going for them plot-wise (since Smash Bros could technically have Mega Man in there 10 times since he had 10 games with MM7 and MM8 looking different): Regular Ridley, Ridley recovered with robot parts, Ridley zombie X parasite, and Ridley cloned. I thought about including Ridley Robot, but didn't because he and Ridley were in the same game together.
Yeah, need more evidence in either direction. I'm betting we'll have to wait for E3 when the press finally gets a chance to play.

I can sort of understand why Sakurai might have went with Elec Man. He complements Yellow Devil, whose weakness is the Thunder Beam.
Plus he does something that Mega Man doesn't already do. Proto Man is largely just Mega Man with a shield.
Melee had a demo if I recall. Brawl had a demo at E for All which was open to the public.
Give me Cerulean to play as. Any pokemon that makes Swift beast is on an entirely different level.
Brawl was played at either E3 or TGS I believe
