Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

"Zero Suit Samus will not be joining the fight this time. Just kidding!"
Talking about new characters with Waluigi toy on desk. Waluigi deconfirmed by showing he's still an Assist Trophy.
Oh no, is that a Palutena trophy. Wait...Pseudo-Palutena? Oh Sakurai.
Talking about boss characters on stages, shows Ridley SHADOW. No real confirmation of any kind.

There was repeated trolling through entire video and yet somehow certain people are so confident that this was the one time he wasn't screwing with us.

Ridley will be revealed at e3. I'd bet on it.

Waluigi doll was placed on the desk when Sakurai were talking about Assist Trophies, not new characters. Also he already announced Waluigi as assist trophy way WAY before Smash Direct.

Still have a soft spot for this guy:

Ugh god no. That thing is so horribly designed.

The only answer.

This tends to happen for people who try getting into the game now!

I still replay TLA from time to time and it holds up. They were never incredible games but immensely satisfying. Never been a huge jrpg fan, but the puzzle focus kept me interested.

It's a nostalgia thing, sure. At least Isaac's powers would be more interesting than a big ol space dragon.

but from your post, it sounds like you first played it a long time ago

Give me Cerulean to play as. Any pokemon that makes Swift beast is on an entirely different level.
I know a lot of people perfer Classic Mewtwo, but based on the fact that the other Pokemon characters seem to be based on their XY designs (Pikachu says it's name, Lucario and Charizard have Mega Evos), I don't think we'll get Classic Mewtwo playable over the XY Mewtwo.

For the record, I don't believe Ridley has a snowball's chance in hell of being playable in Smash 4. I just like the character as a Metroid icon and feel he could work. I like Metroid and I enjoy the thought of playing as someone new from the series.

Mother Brain, Dark Samus, Ridley. Classic, Prime, Metroid as a whole. Any one of those three I'd love to see playable; Mother Brain especially just for the sheer audacity of playing a giant character like that. Since Mother and Dark Samus are assist trophies and Ridley will most likely just be a boss, I'll just wait until the next Smash. Still glad Dark Samus was acknowledged, and Mother Brain's hyper beam looks kickass.

Why does everyone miss the King Ki-Hunter Ridley gag? It zooms in on something purple and has Ridley's music play, then zooms out to reveal King Ki-Hunter with a "wah-wah". That was a pretty obvious troll.

Considering both are feral monsters that sit in a cave all day and kill anything that enters... Not much of a difference. :-) there's mega evolution, but that's likely just a final smash.

Pikachu says it's name because the first smash went off the Pokemon Anime as evident in the intro when Pikachu is in Anime Saffron.

Technically Classic Mewtwo can Mega Evolve either way ;)

Edit: I'll kinda be unhappy if we get Lady-Two though from the newest movie :/

What exactly is the difference between classic and XY Mewtwo?

Sakurai: Hey guys I have a brilliant idea for Samus's final smash!
Naive Intern: what is it?
Sakurai: What if... She fires a laser!
Naive Intern: Like the charge shot?
Sakurai: Yes, but BIGGER.
Naive Intern: That sounds bor-
Sakurai: So big and strong her suit fries and you have to play without it.
Naive Intern: Why would Samus use an attack that has such a drawback when she has perfectly good Power Bombs?
Sakurai: Good point. Perhaps she uses it because she's stronger without the suit! So it's a laser so strong it makes her stronger!
Naive Intern: That's-
Sakurai: Brilliant, I know!

Normal people: Ones slower and stronger and one is faster and better and you use a super to get to it. You know fighting games, any more thought that that is too much thought.

I think it's pretty safe to assume that, if Mewtwo gets in, he'll be in his base form and have Mega Mewtwo Y as a Final Smash, much like Charizard seems to have Mega Charizard X as his.

...Pikachu's always said its name in Smash.
Which is why it was previously based on the anime. Now it's based on the games.

What exactly is the difference between classic and XY Mewtwo?
They're just two individuals. One lives in Cerulean Cave, the other lives in whatever it's called Cave in Kalos. That's pretty much it, outside of potential personality differences I guess. Classic Mewtwo doesn't have the same memories and experiences as XY Mewtwo, they're different individuals even though they look the same.

How is that possible? Mewtwo is a cloned pokemon, supposedly there was only one. Did I miss some important lore or is one from a parallel canon? Anime/Videogame Mewtwos are different, perhaps?

Classic Mewtwo's head is a bit larger, also XY Mewtwo has two mega forms. I assume this is what they are talking about, but I could be wrong.
The head size difference was only in the sprites though. Sugimori art had it as a pinhead. Anime made its head even smaller.

Gotta say I like the hunched over look of the RB sprite best.

Oh, I see why Smash Bros fans are concerned now.

Except the two times its used its voice in the main games has been references to the anime and its popularity as the series icon.

Smash has always drawn some inspiration for the Pokemon from their anime appearances. Mewtwo used its voice from its first movie, Lucario from his, Pikachu and Jigglypuff were based almost entirely on the anime's depiction of them...

Game Canon is iffy on legendary Pokemon since the same ones are found in different places at different time periods.

Anime everything is different though. There's definitely 2 Mewtwo's in Anime. There's the Badass one from the first movie who was about to kill the human race, and then there's the female one who moves fast from the Genesect movie

Didn't trainer even use Ash's voice? Or a sound alike?

Edit: Yup

Edit Harder: Oh wow! It's the voice of Jesse of Team Rocket, and Nurse Joy, as well as Snivy and Piplup and Chikorita and others.

In previous games this was the case. There's an obvious move towards the games now over anime. Examples include Pikachu's voice, Lucario and charizard's mega evolution, Greninja, and stages based on Lumiose and the Pokemon league. I imagine that Jigglypuff will also change to reflect the new fairy type, even though TV Jigglypuff didn't use fairy moves.

How is that possible? Mewtwo is a cloned pokemon, supposedly there was only one. Did I miss some important lore or is one from a parallel canon? Anime/Videogame Mewtwos are different, perhaps?
I have no clue, but there are definitely two. I guess they just made more than one. The important thing is that even if Mewtwo is a stage hazard, he can still be playable.

That poor kid has lung cancer.

Legendaries are weird like that. Maybe some researcher like Fuji left Cinnabar before the disaster and tried to clone Mewtwo again. Or maybe it's time travel, or maybe Red foolishly donated Mewtwo to science.

You say that like Greninja, Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard aren't also going to show up in the Anime. Greninja's pulling off moves that have no analogue in the games.

Mega Charizard X is actually about to have a sub series dedicated to him.

I'd love more pokemon spin-offs. Especially ones that aren't card games, rogue-likes, circle simulators, or full-priced tetris clones.

Give me some platformers, action games, something.

Kid Icarus Stage? Hopefully
It'd be nice if every character could participate. For some of the weird ones...

Kirby: Hiiiiiii!
Link: *heavy breathing*
Toon Link: *Yelp of surprise*
Pokemon: Roaring or saying their names. Lucario could speak.
Yoshi: *obnoxious flutter noise*
Game and Watch: *incomprehensible beeping*
Donkey Kong: *Tarzan yell*
Diddy Kong: *Angry monkey sounds*
Shiek: *muffled dialogue because of scarf*

You mean like Star Fox conversations that were in Melee and Brawl? :P
Star Fox conversations were rather limited though.

For what it's worth, it's pretty obvious Ash will get a Greninja; his only Kalos starter is Froakie.

still waiting for that pokemon fighter, looks pretty much like Tekken but with fighting pokemons

The Star Fox conversations always were just about Star Fox though. The Codecs were about one of the other characters fighting in the arena.

Any replacement for the Codecs should follow that model, rather than Star Fox's.

Pikachu has the same voice it's had in every other Smash Bros. game.
Which is based on the games now, as opposed to before.

But they're also all present in the games first and foremost. That second part is simply untrue.

How are there definitely two Mewtwo in the canon of the main Pokémon games? When is that ever implied? Why can't it be the same Mewtwo?

When it comes to Legendary Pokémon appearing in other regions, I've just always assumed that they've migrated there for whatever reason. It's never exactly made canon that they were captured before, after all.
