These is really how many Americans are privately. They have this irrational hate of blacks that manifests privately and they do everything they can in public to make it seem like the opposite. It's really intensified over the past decade and I'm not sure why. The audio does, yet again, highlight how stupid and selfish racists are. The weird thing is that more and more Americans are becoming this way as though some strange drug of infection is controlling their minds.

More compared to when exactly?

Not sure which I find more disturbing: The comments made by Sterling or the fact that there's people on the TMZ Facebook thread claiming he is the victim. These folks are trying to say it's his wife's fault that he's making racist comments and she's baiting him into being a racist while entrapping him...

I guess these folks didn't get the memo on Sterling's track record on racism.

It may have been a different focus... maybe American's were more afraid of the "enemy" from outside but relatively speaking, I've seen a dramatic increase in influence from racist organization such as the Minute Men, Tea Party (,NRA <weird, right?>, etc...) It just feels like more people are accepting their doctrine. I've also have my personal experiences such as a best friend influenced by racists and his step-daughter also becoming more racists. Its so casual with them I'm left avoiding them just because I've grown sick of calling them out on their shit.

There are/were many people like this on GAF as well. They often claim to be fair and balanced but it turns out to be a cover for arguing the strangest defense of fellow racists.

He and Cliven Bundy sound like they'd get along swimmingly.

I think racism was a little more prevalent and commonplace in the United States during the first 225 years.

Enough of this guy. Either Silver suspends him as a prelude to him selling the team, or the players should boycott playing any games for him until action is taken

Interesting. I had no idea all this was secretly going within the minds of Americans

I guess that depends on your age but I can't really imagine things being considered worse now. This century so far has been relatively tame compared to even the 1990s or 1980s in terms of racial animus boiling over.

Not sure if your being sarcastic but I'll clarify regardless. Living in Orange County, California, I've had the pleasure of talking to many people here from different backgrounds who might not see things the way their parents and relatives see them and they share things that you otherwise wouldn't know about private household conversations that aren't particularly pleasant that seem to match the growing negative feeling about Black America.

However if you wish to assume I think I'm some psyhconaut diving into American brains and coming up with conclusions then that's cool too.

I would agree with you about the 80s and I'm not even saying that racial sentiments have not gone down since then compared to today (I'll clarify in a bit), I just believe that more people are openly espousing racist viewpoints now. I have to concede that this may simply be a result of the fact that we have more access to information today and the proliferation of social media.

To clarify I do think racism is actually going down simply by attrition as old ideas die along with the people that hold them. My only fear is that what feel is a recent spike in public racist sentiment will seed a whole new generation.

An apology written by a PR representative, a small fine, and some finger wagging from the NBA and commentators for a few days until the public forgets about it. But that's a conservative guess. The idiotic Kony 2012 drive shows that anything can gain enough traction.

He's exaggerating tired stereotypes.

The players have to do something if the owners won't. It shouldn't fall to them to have to take action, but if the league just tries a wrist slap, then they need to do it. For whatever reason, I think this will be the straw that breaks the camels back, and he isn't long for owning the team

The quotes are damning.

The actual audio? Just fucking tragic.

Yeah, he well and truly fucked himself with those comments. But as several people mentioned so far, he's not going to see any meaningful punishment or consequence for the garbage he's spewing.

What can the league really do about such a private matter? The league would have to prove that he's actively trying to prevent minorities from going to the games or something like that right?

Yep, but if his earlier history is anything to go by, he unfortunately will skate in this also.

Yep. I don't really follow sports, but my father's a huge fan so I soak up some stuff through osmosis. A quick google search and I see he's a former attorney and a business magnate and that's all I really need to know. Nothing major is going to happen.

The actual component of racism here is totally "news at 11". Sterling though... He's just pitiful.

Hope people start to boycott the clippers games, he shouldn't be the owner. Anyone find the instagram pic? seems to be deleted.

Don Sterling indeed.

Obama got elected and people started saying how they really feel.

I wish the players would forfeit the rest of the playoffs and refuse to play next season unless he resigned. I don't remember the last time athletes took a major stand like that, it would be interesting to see.

Yeah that guy is hella racist, it's known.

From Wikipedia: "In February 2009, Sterling was sued by former longtime Clippers executive Elgin Baylor for employment discrimination on the basis of age and race.[5] The lawsuit alleges Sterling told Baylor that he wanted to fill his team with "poor black boys from the South and a white head coach".

He only gives a shit about money, and apparently his ex-gf only gave a shit about his money. Match made in heaven until the oh, she took photos of Magic Johnson on her instagram. That ignited his racist friends to confront him about it and then oh, he finally gets embarassed.

This shit is pathetic, you can't make this up.

At the least, it's hard to imagine the team making a run to the Finals with all this going on in the background (assuming the media picks it up this time, because everyone already knows Sterling is a racist). I agree it would be something to see if even one bench player refused to play because of this.

That audio....

This guy is unbelievably incoherent and just a total prick.

How stupid and hateful could a human being possibly be?

If the clippers players don't boycott until he's gone then they are a big as sellouts as that thing he calls a girlfriend.

I am confused on multiple levels.

Second, there is a quote from him that says "you can sleep with black people, but don't bring them to my games."

Isn't this your GF? Why would she be sleeping with someone else?.

Open relationship. It's not that weird. The other stuff though, boggles my mind.

I know Stern is gone, but I couldn't see Stern tolerating this. I wonder what Silver does. Especially when most of your players are African Americans.

Crazy how powerful money is.

Dude is a notorious scumbag and this isn't the first time he's said some racists shit, and yet players are willing to play for a scumbag like this just so they can make money.

I understand at the end of the day we have bills to pay, mouths to feed and hobbies to enjoy but why would you work for someone that probably believes slavery should be brought back? There's asshole bosses, and then theres this guy.

Don't you guys all secretly hate each other? It kind of looks that way from the outside.
