Fighting Games Weekly | April 21-27 | Easter EG Hunting

Can't believe I'm saying this, but Tokido should probably consider changing characters. Unlike other vortex characters, his mainly relied on hard knockdowns and DWU is really messing him up. Unless he can play a lame and footsie oriented Akuma like Infiltration, he may have a harder time in Ultra.

he should rolento

It'll probably take 3-4 months of play to see Red Focus/EX Red Focus being utilized the the top players.

Bonchan almost landed a EX red focus combo when he played as Yun. But somehow he canceled into shoulder too late and it didn't combo. But if he had hit it, he would have done 500 damage since the Ultra would have landed in the corner and Yun can follow up with LP shoulder into HP lunge.

With red focus, those are reads so it'll always be risky to blow two bars on a read. But everybody will be doing EX red focus combos on day one. Just know how your character can use it and it'll be a easy confirm. Much easier than SRK, FADC, Ultra.

Expected something like this to happen because vortex was a huge part of his game plan, there were countless rounds where he was on the brink of losing but got one knockdown and it was over. The same will apply to many other top players, especially the Cammy users.

As a result players like Daigo, Bonchan etc. who mainly relied on solid overall play will get an advantage now unless those other players adapt their shenanigans to the new system or go to something new.

You can join me in being a fraud, don't worry bud.

I never really played CvS2 which is what's surprising when I do well at all in it.

Alpha 2 I keep forgetting to pick Ken, but that game is mostly fun for me (like CvS2).

ST is the game I look to do well in when I go to 2O2F, and a peace-out gets me salty. This is the first time I've peaced out in ST (even at Evo in 2011 and 2012 I didn't).

The first match was a Claw mirror, and that just gets stupid from the character select screen. My opponent got in the air first more than I did.

Second match was against a Blanka player and I was trying to dive too much from neutral, which of course gets blown up by up ball, so that was just stupid on my part.

In the second game of the Blanka match I (as did Delerium, who was there as well) noticed I wasn't applying enough roll pressure, and I started doing better but I froze up in neutral.

I considered counter picking the second game with Guile, and in retrospect, I feel it would have been the better move; I would have had more advantage in neural (sonic boom).

Unfortunately I didn't have the confidence in my Guile.

It was a tournament of legends qualifier for Evo so the field was definitely much bigger and better than it's been in the past.

But the event has been growing well and more and more heads are showing up for it, and in the end that's the important thing.

Also, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but the overlays were sick; they were direct references to the old championship edition cabs; everything on the overlay was an element from those cabs.

In last night's Chokaigi stream, it just seemed like Daigo was toying around with Bonchan until he got 4 wins, and then he decided to get serious and play Ryu. What this shows is that Daigo is still pretty confident playing Ryu, despite the relatively minor buffs he received compared to other characters in Ultra. Interesting.

I really enjoyed watching Momochi's Ken, I hope he sticks with him.

Yea it seemed like they were just having fun throughout the set. Bonchan could've went to Sagat right after the first lost but went through a couple characters he knew probably won't going to work

Akuma and Cammy are still strong, heck there's some random cammy beating bonchan and choking against daigo (why the hooligan... why) that was filmed at the arcades two days ago.

Momochi's just got the wood over Tokido atm, he's like the opposite of Daigo, can beat Tokido but not Infiltration.

11-9 in the topanga league playoff, never seen tokido so upset at losing. He was up 6-1 at one stage. one of the best sets i've seen from topanga....
3-2 madcatz ft3 @ tgs
and last night 4-2 when momochi picked his main.

Ken vs Akuma matchup is so much better now. Ken couldn't really get much mileage out of his canned setups against akuma, now that his ground game is buffed he's much better off in that matchup.

They were both fucking around, they both only went with their mains on their last life.

I'll probably show up at Sega Cup a bit later in the afternoon for a little while since I'm gonna FINALLY be seeing Winter Soldier.

Might capture some matches on my phone if there are off-stream matches.
