Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Zeroing in on part of what you said:

I've had a twin stick planned out for a while...

By twin stick, do you mean something with dual digital levers (like, for Robotron 2084 or Smash TV) or something with dual flight sticks (for Virtual On)? I did not think the MC Cthulhu nor the PS360+ support analog inputs, if you're attempting to build for the latter.

Sorry I'm probably using the wrong term there. It's a single unit with two full sets of (normal) arcade controls. 2-player stick?

Doesn't seem like they're ever very responsive, but they've been constantly updating the ps360, so I have no reason to doubt news on the site.

I've had great experiences and responsive support from akishop in the past. I havent ordered from him in over 3years so this was a big surprise to me. He was great before. If anyone is considering this pcb then get it now just in case.

I just bought two ps360's from focusattack. Im not holding my breathe for ps4 support coming soon but I am optimistic that it will eventually come. If not then hopefully phreakazoid comes out with a ps4/xone board we can simply add on to our ps360's. Im sure there will be a market for it.

I'm still waiting for the Saturn support they teased almost a year ago before I buy some PS360+ PCBs :(

Dunno if it helps, but MC Cthulhu supports Saturn. My stick is a dual modded Mad Catz TE-S 360 stick, with a MC Cthulhu board plopped on top. so I can use my stick on 360, PS3, PS2/PS1, Gamecube/Wii, Dreamcast, OG Xbox, Saturn, Genesis, SNES & NES. it was done by Gummowned over at SRK.

feels good. hopefully I can get someone to add Xbox One guts to it soon.

Update on mini stick mockups(s) after some new buttons and a few more boxes, got the two extra shoulder buttons in and guide button:

And got it all wired up to actual functioning status! Mostly, had to route the USB out the side just cause I didn't have any short cables and didn't want to try hacking up an RJ45-USB adapter last night. Played DDP SDOJ a bit, seemed fine...until the stick came loose and a nut started rattling around the box. Probably gonna start working on wood prototypes soon.

Yeah, that is the one of the tricky things about stick work. Pretty much all these shops / suppliers are one man labor-of-loves, which is super cool for the services that they provide the community. But at the same time as a buyer it can be a little hard just sending off paypal money into the ether for semi-expensive stuff that you have no clue how long it will be supported. I think I got in one of the last orders before Lizard Lick shut down when building my first custom stick, and it's made me really gun shy since then about ordering from these slow responsive shops. I guess the nice thing about the PS360+s is that I can get them from someplace like Focus Attack instead of having to order from Akishop directly.

I think my gut instinct here is that I'm just going to pick up the PS360+s. From what I've seen it seems like PS4 support at a minimum is pretty likely. I'm currently mostly a PC guy, but if I pick up a next-gen console it's pretty much 100% going to be a PS4 so that would have me covered with all the options that I might need for years out. The way that I'm building my stick it won't be the easiest thing to get inside of it to tinker with, so seems worth the money to do it right the first time.
Another alternative would be to do a "project box" stick, basically just keep the stick guts bare (controller PCB wise) and make external controller/adapter boxes, or keep it all internal if you get creative (and have enough space). One other thing I saw on the SRK forums was a USB decoder which would theoretically allow you to sorta project boxify a standard USB stick, or a PS360 based stick in this case.

I wonder why the button layout of the Fightstick Pro evo stick is different than the earlier TE button layout?
Not sure if it's what you're thinking of, but I came across a thread about something similar the other day, about one MadCatz stick's layout vs their others. This was 360 specific, but apparently MS mandates a particular layout unless the stick has specific game branding. Like the Evo stick might be the MS layout while whatever SF branded one would have the other common layout.

I'm a fan of converters as long as they are lagless. It cuts the hassle out of modding. Right now I'm playing Killer Instinct with a PS2 Saturn pad hooked through an eTokki 360 converter hooked into a CronusMax. It works flawlessly.

instantly modded with PS-14-KN's/GN for the meantime.[/QUOTE]

I don't like game branded sticks, but every time I see this one I get the itch to pick one up. Real classy looking.

Ah, good ol' Mushi Futari. I had that stick once and I loved it. The color and art made it so unique. The only thing I hated about it is Hori's solution to headset port. Such an eyesore...

Sadly, I'm still looking for one of those in order to try restoring a beat up Otomedius Gorgeous stick to its factory state.

if that doesn't work, get white parts and go Rit.

https://www.ritstudio.com/color-library/core-colors/

I feel like I've mentioned this before, but Seimitsu's own red ball top doesn't match with the PS-14 red. It's clearly darker by a small shade and it irritates me to no end. So yeah, gonna try dyeing my own stuff. I'll also be trying the sanding & plastic/vinyl paint route since that seems like a better way to get consistent colors.

Why are some cases so wide? Is there a point to all the wasted space? My TE feels plenty sturdy already.

small dicks. pride. etc.

tumblr_mxojqaVxjp1rmse96o2_500.jpg

or so we can put more stuff in it.

but honestly, its just to recreate the arcade cabinet experience.

not everyone likes to play with sticks on their lap and having a wider (heftier) base is always a plus when playing it on a surface.

Focus Attack sent me a wrong item again haha.
Ordered a PSX/2 RJ45 cable, got a USB RJ45 cable instead.
That's 2/2 orders incorrectly fulfilled. Kind of ridiculous now...

I prefer bigger cases. TE is too small for me. Fighting edge is perfect, and vlx even more perfect.

I have the Femme Fatale TE with a Hori Hayabusa inside for the joystick. I agree it can be a bit too small in terms of width, but it still is my favorite stick.

The VLX is king in terms of that arcade feel and sturdiness, but the Fighting Edge balanced the two and really is the best in terms of size and feel.

TE is a great stick, no doubt. Just that different sized cases are awesome. I'm a pretty big guy, so the FE, the MadCatz VS, the VLX are all better sizes for me. It's great that we're at a point where such a variety of sticks are available. :)

Is there a thread where I can sell my Virtua Stick High Grade? I have 2 and both are modded for used on PS3 and 360 (via a switch). What price should I sell these at?

One of them drops signal when playing on 360..not sure why but anyone that knows modding probably can fix it quick.

Swapped the Hayabusa with the old JLF as I feel like my execution is less consistent than it used to be, specifically my diagonals feel MUCH less cleaner. Saturdays are my long offline sessions, so we'll see if the change makes a difference. Might actually be me.

Mad Catz Killer Instinct TE2 with the art removed, ls32, clear balltop, clear dustwasher, obscs with silencers. I know it looks simple/bland to some, but every time I add color to my sticks I get sick of it and in the end settle on a "neutral" aesthetic like this. And while I will admit that it basically IS a toy, I hate when mine look like one.

That's pretty classy. Is that internal lighting or a particularly bright external light source in your photos?

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive/affordable Xbox360 stick?

I want to get a couple for some casual fighting goodness.

Looking to spend as little as possible while still having some decent quality. The best of the lower tier sticks should do and I'd even buy used.

Anyone have any good templates for arcade stick construction? Like some measurements and stuff for spacing between buttons and stick, and the thickness of the face plate and other stuff. Taking a wood sculpture class next year, figure I might try to make an arcade stick case out of wood.

Does the stick area need anything special so that it does not stick out of the case too much or too little?

Thanks in advance.

You can find most if not all the info you need over on Slagcoin above.

Specifically about your stick area question, nothing special about the stick area other than getting the depth right.

Anyone have experience modding a Hori FS V-3? I saw some images that it was modded without soldering but im not really sure if thats viable.

So I've been playing fighters a lot more since 2011, I feel pretty comfortable with the Dualshock 3's D-pad but I've been thinking about getting an arcade stick a lot lately.

However I have a dilemma, I got an Xbox One for Killer Instinct and love the crap out of it. Also, any future fighting game that is multiplatform I will likely get on my PS4. Is their any accessory that allows you to buy a last gen (PS3) stick and use it on PS4/XB1?

Or am I just better off getting the KI madcatz stick (when they're back in stock) and wait for a stick to drop for the PS4?

oh hey! are you Femto?

wrt your question I believe there is a chronus adaptor that accomplishes this, dunno to what degree.

I have one with a switchable padhack to a Sixaxis. It can be modded without soldering, but the case is quite shallow and may not fit some sticks and buttons well.

Sorry but that's not me haha.

As long as it works well and their isn't any input lag I'll take it. I've been eye ballin Hori's fighting edge stick.
