Fighting Games Weekly | April 21-27 | Easter EG Hunting

VF at high level is so beautiful to watch... and this isn't even Japanese level. I really can't wait to see when AM2 reveal VF6.
 
I see GAF on the stream for a tab and what freakin version of Internet Explorer are they using? The better question is why are they using Internet Explorer.....

I've heard numerous people use the acronym KONY way before the Kony situation.

I even used it as an XBL/PSN gamertag for awhile.

Assuming ex back breaker has some invincibility or a small hurtbox so a jump in wouldn't stuff it, I don't think this tech is that great. Doing the armor cancel just adds unnecessary additional startup. Although if ex back breker is a terrible move overall, absorbing the jump in would be pretty useful.

I talked with Andy (from Team PIE) extensively about this before the event. Originally, I had forgotten about Kony, and recommended #kony2014 as the hashtag.

However, people still tweet about Joseph Kony. I had searched Twitter and indeed, Andy was right, #kony2014 was being used to refer to Joseph Kony. Because of that, Andy decided to use #tkony2014 in order to avoid overlap with anything involving Joseph Kony.

That said, Omega Rex is right, "King of New York" has been used in the NY hip-hop scene before any of this. If my history is correct, the term came to prominence with Biggie when he used the name "Frank White" as a reference to the 1990 movie "King of New York" in which Christopher Walken stars as Frank White. It was a self-proclaimed title

After Biggie's death, the term didn't fade away, but there wasn't a clear King of New York with Naz and Jay-Z both being contenders for the title. It was Jay-Z that eventually ascended to that position.

Point being, steps were taken to separate the King of New York event from overlapping at all with Joseph Kony on social media outlets. It was never used to garner attention for the event by piggybacking off any reference to Joseph Kony.

My only gripe with this is that all of this could have been avoid if #TKNY was used and just exclude "of". Overthinking it way too much and from a business perspective, and I'll probably never say something like this again because I'm not a scumbag (and don't abide by it) but any kind of publicity is good publicity.

I missed KONY (had to go grocery shopping and take care of my cousins), but damn this is some slick stuff. NYC always had strong iconography to tap into and seeing it used like this makes me weirdly feel a sense of "home town" from it all.

I posted about your streams earlier in this thread, I think you do an excellent job of communicating to people exactly what they are doing wrong, and how to remedy it.

I also really like your approach to learning fighting games, it's clear and concise. A lot of people who try to teach on stream, in person, or otherwise just get lost in the details really easily. They also sometimes try to teach you things completely out of the order that you should be learning them.

Keep it up, I have no complaints.

Streams good, I'd like to see you talk about when situations come up and how to deal with them, or how to get them in your favor in the first place. I know most of that is just footsies you teach, but recognizing you're in a situation and immediately knowing your options is important.

Also, play more Juri.

No, I'm actually learning Juri and my spacing and fireballs are good, I just am bad at making people scared of her approach :|

Juri is pretty cute though, but meh. Negative Edging is cuter.

I watched a little of your online play stream and the footsies episode you did a week ago. I thought it was well done. The video quality was good, the sound was good, you had lots of good examples, and you were very clear and concise with your explanations.

One thing additional I would be interested in seeing during your online play stream is some discussion of your strategy, of opposing player tendencies, and some explanation of things to look for when fighting the different characters. Basically, just think out loud for a bit when you are in between matches or something. If you already do this, then keep it up.
