Donald Sterling (slum lord and LA Clippers Owner).. yeah, still a racist scum bag

If I was a Clipper there's no way I'd play after reading this.

A boycott would not only aim to shitcan Sterling but embarrass the NBA, who sat back while this guy said and did stuff that would get a player suspended.

Still, I don't think it's their responsibility to make this guy pay. It's the league's. I think it puts the Clippers players and coaches in a totally unfair position to be the lead on this, it's Silver's job and the spotlight needs to be on him.

Thing is, folks dont want to fight for anything anymore. They want to have it given to them without giving anything for it.

I'm sorry, but if these dudes go out and play for this racist scumbag today they are sellouts in my book.

You seem to think a boycott would some kind of dent on Sterling's fortune. It won't. He could give away the team for free and he'd still be set for life. A boycott would hurt the players more by letting that scumbag disrupt their goal of winning of a championship. Sitting out would be giving up.

I suspect there is a 0% chance of him being allowed to keep the team after this.

The employees are letting their feelings be known, and letting the process work itself out. If the NBA doesn't force him to sell, that's when they'll bring out the heavy artillery.

Or it will be swept under the rug when the outrage dies.

I could give a fuck about his fortune.

Him losing the team takes him away from the game and further isolates him and his views.

Giving up? its a fucking game.

He's adding to the clout of the game. It would be a really powerful gesture. Hell, why is abc even playing this game!?!

No, but he's working for a league that harbors Sterling. He's just as complicit as any player who continues to play in the league.

I think we're taking things a little too far here...Sterling will be disciplined heavily, most likely forced to sell the team. Plus, the players may decide to throw the game(s), etc.

NBA couldn't force George Shinn to sell his team.

And all the employees working at the arena who are counting on the money from this game? All the bartenders and waiters who count on people coming out to watch them?

The role of the media is a little different than players that are employed by an owner that sees himself as a slave owner over them essentially.

...and they'll eventually get to that.

Unless the entire NBPA boycotted, nothing would be accomplished here.

And all the employees working at the arena who are counting on the money from this game? All the bartenders and waiters who count on people coming out to watch them?

I already addressed that. The universal response here was "Fuck them, this is more important."

Where does the NBA (and Sterling through revenue sharing) get a HUGE amount of $? TV rights. They're basically paying for him to view himself as a slave owner, so I'm not sure what the difference is if we're going to continue to fault people who aren't the actual perpetrators of this shit.

4 turnovers in the first 3 seconds, letting David Lee drive to the basket, leaving Stephen and Klay open behind the line...I hope you guys are happy since the Clips are clearly throwing the game.

yeah they're not going to throw all the hard work they put in for 8+ months out the window for this. be real guys.

They'll be able to hold their heads held high when they go back to work under an owner that isnt an open racist.

Exactly. This is a guy who allowed his team to be horrible for decades because he refused to pay decent cash for any coaches or players. Only recently has that changed, presumably because he had two great players fall into his lap, making him actually care. There is already tons of media coverage on this as it is. Sitting out isn't going to make the NBA act any more harshly and might even give Sterling legal leverage. I'm sure the NBA is trying to see how they can quickly take the team from him without getting a huge lawsuit against them.

lol pretty sure a team sitting out a playoff game would force the NBA to act with haste not seen ever before.

Where did I fault the players? I'm just giving my opinion on the matter. The players have the opportunity to act as the catalyst to correct the issue. It is of my opinion they should take that opportunity.

Sit ins and protests have a pretty clear history of effectiveness. Media blackouts do not.

The only justification would be for the Clippers to win the championship and exclude Sterling from everything leading up to it, in addition to the finale.

We're talking about an 82 year old man with $2 billion, whose life is pretty much at the end of the road. Based on principle I hope they force him out, but there really is no beating the piece of shit.

CP3 intentionally dropping his shoulder and driving into Stephen. Giving Stephen the green light to shoot 3s. Doc not calling a timeout.

This is fucking disgusting to watch, and I'm as disappointed in the Clips as I am in their owner.

Funny thing is that NBA athletes are the ones who get most fucked by refs and fines, they are barely allowed to cough on the court, let alone show any sort of attitude and its a technical, to say the refs today are anal retentive is being kind. No other sport has more annoying officiating and bullshit than the NBA

These shitty racist comments should warrant a gigantic fine, a lengthy ban and possibly taking the team away from him. Yet that cannot and will not happen, because the guy owns the franchise, and there is a limit what they can and will do. Such is capitalism

i don't see the need to condemn the players and the fans for showing up to the game. it's divisive and thoroughly misses the point.

There are more important things than a game.

I don't know how clipper fans could think the players can focus when you're owner doesn't think of you as people.

"I am angry that you are not outwardly showing the amount of same amount of outrage that I am and making the same decisions that I would!" is unfortunately a mentality that is always around for these types of issues.
