Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Top 5 I would like but have 0 chance:

  1. Kain Highwind
  2. Chrono
  3. Phoenix Wright
  4. Captain N
  5. Simon Belmont (captain N roster)

Top 5 I would like and DO have a chance (though not great):

  1. Tingle
  2. Demise
  3. Tharja
  4. Game Boy (to help my captain N roster)
  5. Jeff (earthbound)

Top 5 I think will actually make it in:

  1. Mewtwo
  2. Shulk
  3. Chrom
  4. Palutena
  5. Snake!

Top 5 Assist trophies I want:

  1. King Hippo (captain N)
  2. Eggplant wizard (Captain N)
  3. Poo (actual PK starstorm)
  4. Protoman
  5. Doctor Wily (Also captain N)

TOP FIVE NEWCOMER WISHLIST?

1. Isaac
2. Ridley
3. Mewtwo
4. King K. Rool
5. Chrom & Lucina*

* If not a pair, then I'd prefer Lucina by herself, or Robin. Anything other than just another standalone blue-haired swordsman.

Ignoring, the leak,

1. Wonder-Red
2. Dixie Kong
3. Chibi-Robo
4. Saki Amamiya (Not happening)
5. Lip

Assist trophy? No way :( i want her touchable and playable

Oh, by the way, men. Great news. I got approved for E3, so I can be Smash-gaf's official SSB4 correspondent/ambassador.

The state of SSB journalism has been absolutely atrocious (seriously, literally one, ONE journalist asked Sakurai arguably the most important question regarding the game. How the hell is that even possible?), and I hope to rectify that.

Plus I have an HD camcorder.

Cool, we might actually get gameplay footage of someone playing competently.

Seriously though, why are 90% of the people who film themselves playing at trade shows borderline incompetent at video games?

Current Top Five

Takamaru
Lip
Anna (or Robin; say no to solo Chrom/Lucina)
Medusa
Palutena (Because she's a given at this point.)

Mike Jones is such a constant, he should be assumed to be my sixth choice and listed even in a person list.

1. Felix (Or Issac.. I guess.)
2. Palutena
3. Hector (No one in smash uses an Axe!)
4. Andy (Some kind of representative from Advance Wars)
5. Simon Belmont (If we had to pick a third party rep)

Honestly, there's not too many more characters I'd add to smash. It's getting pretty full as is, and I think going too obscure is silly. I'd prefer more stage representation myself. Venus Lighthouse, Advance Wars battlefield, Ashera's Tower, etc.

Top 5 (What I wanted, but will not happen)

1. Saki Amamiya (Sin and Punishment)
2. Impa (Skyaward Sword)
3. Captain Rainbow
4. Black Bull (F-Zero)
5. Presea (Tales of Symphonia)

Also, Tingle, Tetra would be nice.

Yup, 100% totally serious. Can't wait!

And the question was regarding the speed. And ONLY Jason Schrier (sp?) of Kotaku (really, Kotaku??) bothered to ask Sakurai that. That question hadn't crossed anyone else's mind, for whatever reason apparently.

What kind of questions are you planning to ask? I'm pretty sure that there are guidelines for the interviews right?

Wait, really? Jason asked on GAF for what questions to ask Sakurai for the interview. I'm pretty sure that game speed was one of the suggestions. I thought other people asked about it as well, but it seems that isn't the case at all.

EDIT: In the OP there is this IGN article which says that it will be in between Melee and Brawl in terms of speed: http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/06/13/e3-2013-no-plans-for-smash-bros-dlc-tripping-removed

1. Wonder-Red
2. Shulk
3. Crono
4. Fawful
5. Dillon

Pretty weird list, but it doesn't really stay the same. The last two were mostly random picks I really want in.

Oh, wait. Sorry, did you think I was going to interview Sakurai? Haha, apologies if that's the impression you got. No, I won't be doing anything on that high a level.

I'm not gonna say with a 100% accuracy that no one else asked Sakurai, but of the dozens of interviews I've read, no one else mentioned that at all.

SmashGAF should make a list of things for you to ask Sakurai on top of getting your footage.

My contributions:

1. What's his opinion on characters from typically JPN only releases finding love & support for a playable role in Smash from Western audiences? (ex: Takamaru [Nazo no Murasame-jo] and Lip [Panel de Pon])

2. Favorite Kid Icarus Uprising god/goddess?

3. Have you ever considered taking an obscure character from a NA/AUS/EU release only to make playable in Smash? (ex. Mike Jones [StarTropics])

[/totally not biased]

Edit: lol nvm

Hmm, reading that last portion, it sounds like he asked him specifically about tripping, but then mentions the speed thing kind of like it was already pointed out earlier (by Jason).

Still, if that is in fact the case, then I'd be happy to add Richard George to the hero journalist list.

It's gotten to that point has it, weekend GAF? :P

5 Characters I'd like to see:

  1. Palutena
  2. Dixie Kong
  3. Marshal/Chorus Kids
  4. Anna
  5. Krystal

I wouldn't expect Krystal at this point since I don't see them cutting Wolf or Falco who are already enough since the series hasn't had a new game in years but if she makes any sort of appearance I'd be chuffed. With Anna, I think she's fun and they could do a lot with her, plus she's appeared in most of the games and isn't Flavour of the Month like Chrom or Ike.

With Dixie and Palutena it's got to the point now where it'll be kinda disappointing not to see them playable. With the whole thing with Dixie appearing in Brawl's disc data, and Nintendo marketing her more through merchandise and games nowadays it'd be apt for her to show up this time around.

Notice that one of them is mewtwo.

That means pokemon company still values mewtwo as a current popular pokemon.

We haven't seen mewtwo in a pokeball or in any other footage.

I'd say this increases mewtwo's chances by 5%!

We've known this since the most recent movie starring Mewtwo, and Charizard and Mewtwo being the only Pokémon to receive two Mega Evolutions in Pokémon X/Y.

I'm pretty confident in Mewtwo returning in some form - as it wasn't shown in the Poké Ball montage, playable is pretty likely. I don't think they'll cut fan-favourite Jigglypuff either.

So it seems that wasn't a suggestion from GAF, and Jason didn't directly ask the question regarding speed (and Kotaku isn't all that bad, it is just some of the writers there suck, but Jason is really good). He asked a broad question that gave an answer regarding Smash 4's gameplay.

Kotaku Interview said:
Kotaku: Do you feel like there were flaws or weaknesses in Smash Bros. Brawl that you want to make better, or fix, or learn from for the new Smash Bros. games?

Sakurai: I would consider the changes that we're making this time around not as fixes, but that we're changing the direction. And so the vision for the overall balance of the game in Smash Bros. Melee, it was sort of more focused towards more hardcore players. Then when it came around to making Brawl, this was a game that was targeting a Wii audience where there were a lot of beginner players, so it sort of leaned a little bit more in that direction. So now, for this time around, we're sort of aiming for something that is in between those as far as the speed of the game. Because I don't really think this time we're in a situation where we're trying to accommodate that many new players like we did last time.

And in my previous edit, Rich (who is no longer at IGN) seemed to ask something regarding gameplay speed.

http://ign.com/articles/2013/06/13/e3-2013-no-plans-for-smash-bros-dlc-tripping-removed
Sakurai also confirmed to me that tripping, a significant and frustrating element from Super Smash Bros. Brawl had been removed. The series creator described the gameplay direction of Super Smash Bros. Wii U and Super Smash Bros. 3DS as being somewhere between the faster, more competitive style of Melee and the slower, more casual design of Brawl. No doubt that will be good news for those wanting a better compromise.

Considering that Jason's large interview was posted on the 21st while Rich's article was posted on the 13th, I doubt that he took that from Kotaku.

Okay, top five most wanted stages:

1. Grassland Groove from DKC: Tropical Freeze
2. Virgin Victory flying around Blossom City from The Wonderful 101
3. Eryth Sea from Xenoblade Chronicles (I'm still not sure if this is the best Xenoblade stage option however)
4. Phendrana Drifts from Metroid Prime
5. Levias from Zelda: Skyward Sword

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Speaking of stages, it's about time we got another new 3DS stage. Kirby, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Star Fox don't have any new stage representation yet.
