"R&B singer Tank..."

I get that he's singing the national anthem but at this point we might as well start asking members of New Edition what they think. Hey Ralph Tresvant do you support Donald Sterling?

In light of that yahoo article above, I wonder if this whole thing wasn't planned by Magic Johnson himself. Get Sterling to say something racist on tape, release tape.

Right after Sterling signs over the team, Vanessa Stiviano hits him in the head with a steel chair then goes over and hugs Magic Johnson.

SWERVE

damn...what a shitstorm.

If Magic does end up buying the Clippers though, he might be the most powerful African American in sports (Dodgers+Clippers).

Can't help but imagine him doing some evil snickering in the background haha

He really is just a figurehead for the company.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I'm not really positive he is even or was initially associated with the company when it came to the Dodgers. It's kind of odd.

Magic with the no look assist.

There was talk of magic plannning this before.

I don't think it is as simple as that tbh but if he did.......then got damn there are levels to this shit

There's no rule like that I don't believe

Also if magic Johnson did plan all of this, he is an evil genius
I don't think there's anything evil about it if Magic did plan the whole thing. It's not like anyone put Sterling into a position where he said things he didn't mean.

The NFL doesn't allow owners to own teams of other sports.

Also, does Magic even have "owner of an NBA team" money?

really? I wonder why the NFL has to be like that

and no, Magic does not have that kind of the money but his billionaire backers have more than enough

For the Clippers players, this was just a political / social issue. But now that companies are taking their money out of the players (state farm, kia), it hits them in the pockets too. This is an issue I hope they address and tell the world how hurt and disappointed they are of having such a cunt of a owner.

Yeah, I'm not seeing the problem. I have no problem with a racist rich slumlord guy being set up by a rich black guy to show him being racist... again. Really, though I knew nothing of him before hand, it sounds like Sterling wouldn't have taken much of a set up. Seems few people who were even somewhat familiar with him are shocked.

According to Bleacher Report the rule is

Now, an NFL owner can own teams in other sports if those teams are in the same city as the NFL franchise they own or in a city where there is no NFL team. Allen, for example, also owns the Portland Trail Blazers.

Which makes sense because I believe a few NFL owners also own MLS teams and the Bucs owner still owns Manchester United.

As for the money, Magic and his partners have a combined net worth of over $200 billion. They can easily afford the Clippers.

If Magic bought the clippers, I would then become a fan. Only then. Otherwise It makes me appreciate my Lakers even more.

How about no more balloons on the Laker legend statues now Clippers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop being disrespectful.

I hope Doc Rivers leaves and Chris Paul follows. Clipps can go back to being the Clipps.

Thank you NBA for hand delivering Paul to a disgusting franchise. And robbing the Lakers in the process.

It's disheartening to hear comments from a multi billlionaire owner about this.

The NBA league should take action about this. Racism must not be tolerated at all!!!

(Still, I want Clippers to make it past 1st round but damn Stephen Curry is heating up all day.)

Well they're definitely going to leverage huge penalties given all the negative media coverage and the loss of ad revenue, but I wonder what they can do to essentially force him to sell the team. They definitely want Sterling gone, though. He's losing the rest of the owners money.

Has that actually happened yet?

How is there still room for racism in this world? This old man is a disgrace. In a black dominant league like the NBA, it is so ironic.

He owns like 2.3% of the Dodgers. The media really makes people think he owns it completely. Same with Jay-Z last year when he bought 0.1608% of the Nets, suddenly it was Jay-Z's team.

The ownership group uses him as their face for a reason. It's not just the media that portrays this.

Seeing Sterling's wife at the Clippers game and then hearing her statement was a bit weird. I think there was more to the quoted part below as she vehemently kept saying that she and her family were not racist.

“I do not condone those statements that you heard. I do not believe in them. I am not a racist. I never have been, never will be. The team is the most important thing to my family.”

Salters then asked if the voice on the tape belonged to Donald Sterling.

“I don’t know, I haven’t listened to the entire thing, but I do believe there were some parts that were cut out. I will let the experts handle that. The one thing that I want everyone to know is that I am not a racist and I do not condone what you heard on that tape.”

On my way to run errands for the rest of the afternoon, I heard an interview by some Clippers beat writers stating that every NBA team has a succession plan in place and that for the Clippers, Sterling's wife and subsequently Sterling's step son would inherit the team should he step down as team owner. I guess this explains why Sterling's wife would stay in the public light.

Bottom line, I think public pressure can force Donald Sterling to step down as owner but I'm not sure he'll sell the team. Most likely, it'll just be passed onto someone in his family.

Can you just imagine the outrage if Sterling was forced to sell the Clippers, and the team ended up getting moved?

Not only would Sterling be cemented as the worst sports owner in world sports history (with no competition from anyone else)... hee might get exiled from the state of California!

Even though they're still married, they have been separated for years now. I don't think she actually said that he wasn't racist, just that she herself wasn't racist.
