Games you remember, names you don't

Trying to remember 2 ps1 games.

- JRPG. I remember a scene that I found very clever. You are in a castle area I think. You talk to some guards and they ask for a password. Some choices appear but you have no clue. As I moved the cursor up and down trying to figure it out, they say something like
"Correct! The password was silence". And they let me pass!

-Early ps1 game. Maybe played the demo. 3rd person adventure. Very simple and clean 3D graphics. If there was action, it was basic. Inventory based puzzles. I remember being in a dungeon area and having to give something to a prisoner. Maybe a bottle of water...

I remember a game for the Atari ST. You were a yellow ball on an isometric map and had to bounce around changing the colour of the various tiles until the landscape was all fixed up while avoiding enemies and spikes etc. Still remember the soundtrack for it but can't remember the name for the life of me.

Sounds like Manix.

I believe the first one is Chrono Cross.

Incidentally, for the second one if you know where you are most likely to have gotten the demo from (for example what magazines did you read back in the day?) that'd probably help you zero in on what it was, I'm sure you could find a list of demo discs somewhere.

A first-person shooter with a view of the player's body in the HUD display, you'd get shot and parts of your face would come off until you died, then it would show a wicked skull.

Im searching for a downloadable game that release around 2008-9 maybe. It's a 2D defend-your-house-against-zombies game. You can found traps in the house to set and block/kill zombies. There isn't a lot of room for a lot of possibility, it's a lot of trial and errors until you know when to place your traps because you are running against the time.

Second one kinda sounds like Little Big Adventure. PC demo took place in a prison iirc and the PS1 version had a demo in Europe. It also had early simple and clean 3d for the characters.

1) This game was played in the Arcades (don't know if it was on any console/PC)
- Action/deathmatch type of game. 3rd person
- Controls: You move the character around using a ball, and two buttons I think (one to shoot, one to jump)
- Maps usually looked like you're in an arena type setting
- I can't remember but weapons generally are minigun-like (soundwave gun, flamethrower, etc)

2) I played on PS1-japanese
- Arcade style: a game you play up to 3 players and its all just a bunch of minigames
- some minigames are like "simon says," some you button mash to pump/pop balloons, soda on top of a car
- some minigames you quickly press L1 and R1 to have the player climb to the top of a building

Yes, that was it!

Probably PlayStation Magazine, but it's been so long...

No... The one I'm talking about was full 3D.

Alright, I once had this scratched PS1 disc of an adventure (?) game "gifted" to me. You start out in a dimly lit office, it's clearly dark outside, atmosphere is very noir-ish, and you see the room from a adventure game type of perspective. Not 100% sure on that part. The environment is the only thing I remember. The game would crash 10 or 15 minutes in, I *think* in the middle of some sort of mandatory phone conversation, but I'm not sure.

Game had to have come out in Europe. I looked at some candidates (it's not the X-Files game), with no avail so far. Would be really cool if someone had an idea. It must have been some sort of detective game, but again, can't be sure. Sucks that I can't find the disc.

Edit: The beginning of Discworld Noir comes very close, but I don't think that was it.

I've been playing a lot of dark souls recently and I was reminded of a game.

It was announced at e3 a couple of years ago to show off the power of next gen, I think it shown at MS conference. The trailer had a huge dragon fight in what looked like a dark catacomb environment. Non trailer gameplay I've seen had some neat mechanics like time freezing. It was set in medieval world but also set in modern times. I think it might be a square enix game or capcom. Not sure. Can't seem to describe in any more detail but it looked neat.

The very first thing that came to mind was Discworld Noir. I loved that game so if it was that I'm sorry you couldn't finish it, was pretty enjoyable and a nice alternative to the first 2 games.

I remember an old DOS game, which I called the "little people game". It was a third person shooter, but the character scale was so small that everyone looked extremely tiny to me. Had sort of sci-fi environments, but I don't remember much else about it.

Never found any trace of it on various DOS game databases, so I assume it was a pretty obscure game for its time.

Deep Down, a Capcom f2p effort due on PS4.

There was this particular fighting game on PS1 that I cannot remember the name of. It was 3D and you could move freely move around the entire battle stage, unlike traditional fighters like Tekken. It took place in the medieval era. Does anyone know what game I am referring to?

Destrega or Cardinal Syn?

Could this one be D-Generation?

Could be Iron & Blood: Warriors of Ravenloft.

Oh god this is going to be a super vague description and I'm sorry for that. I think it's an N64 game with really good title theme music. The character you play as is an animal. Maybe green? I think the boxart shows some kind of tall mountain on an island. The title is "Name 64" I think.

The details are probably way off and too obscure but if someone knows I'll fucking die. Main thing is catchy title music.

Edit: oh man maybe it isn't an N64 game! I looked through a list and couldn't find it. Fuck this is going to kill me. It's got to be N64-gen at least.

Edit: Found it, never mind! It's Croc from the PS1.

Seeing the Tarzan PC game in the other thread just brought some memories.

There was another Tarzan game I used to play, it was a puzzle game though. I don't remember the exact rules, but I think had spheres or some other objects that moved around. There were a lot of levels.

It might have been part of a mini-game collection, and I think it must've been around the year 2000.

The only Disney's Tarzan puzzle game I can find is Disney's Hot Shots: Terk & Tantor Power Lunch (what a mouthful).

First of all: thank you for this thread Forkball

And now that I'm finally a
Junior
Member, maybe GAF can help me out.

The game I'm looking for is a PlayStation One game where you played some kind of Tank-like Vehicle (in the intro it was labeled as "the Weapon of our salvation" I believe) in teh future.

I remember big towers with 2-pointed fork-like "heads" that would shoot at you.

It might have been a sequel.

Syndicate or maybe Take No Prisoners?

I once rented an N64 game where you piloted jets/space jets/space ships. You could jump out of your vehicle if you wanted to, and sometimes you could steal the enemy's ships. The first level was sort of a moonscape, and most of the levels were huge for the time. I think it had "2000" in the title.

So, this is a game for the amiga 500. You are some kind of agent who fights terrorists and the game takes place in one building. It is 2d and the building is cut from the middle, so that you can see the inside. You can duck, shoot and use elevators.

When you die, there comes a screen with a pixelated picture of a detonated bomb (nuke?) and the terrorists are screaming. Yeah, I am not sure anyone will find that one, as it is a couple gens old.

The other one is also for the amiga 500. It is a colorful 2d platformer where you are some kind of robot penguin-esque thing. There is a 2-player mode, with the colors red and blue. This one's though.

This was a old mid 90s PC game that was asteroids but instead of just asteroids you could set variables like few asteroids and lots of enemy ships.

I don't remember this game at all :(

Well, it sounds like Elevator Action, or a clone thereof. Perhaps Mission: Elevator?

This one's nagging at me. Can you remember anything else about it?

(Outside chance, suggested only by the 'blue and red robot penguin-esque thing' aspect: Bonanza Bros?)

Wait, Amiga Platformer with 2 players coop probably means single screen platformer a'la bubble bobble, right ?

could this be Super Methane Bros ?

Oh yes, this is it! Thanks. Have been thinking about that game since quite some time.

could it be Qwak? it's colorful and has some ducks in armor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQNoUJKE-xg

anything robot and penguin related I can think of is James Pond 2, but that didn't have any 2 player mode.

No, that's not it. They looked like this. No ducks if I remember right.

Okay, let me see what I can patch together...

The game was on my school computers during third grade, so... 1995. You were climbing a snowy mountain, and it was covered with piles of snowballs, enemies that could be fought with the snowballs, and treasure that had to be accessed by solving varying math problems by stacking snowballs. Main character was wearing a purple ski jacket, I think... When you got to the top of the mountain, some Big Bad would appear and send you back to the beginning. Having beaten Bubble Bobble (twice, after the first time was solo), I remember being possessed with the idea that I was missing some treasure that would allow me to... I dunno, math the bad guy into submission, I guess. Never figured it out, looking back, it could have been a cheap gameplay loop. Still, always wanted to beat it.

Arcade game. I believe it was a Star Wars one, played it at a Chuck E. Cheese in the early thru mid-2000's.

All I really really remember was that one mission was the battle of Yavin and it was from a first person point of view from the cockpit of an X-Wing, I believe. And I think another level was the battle of Hoth and was also first person.

Popular at my old arcades, played it just last week at Gameworks.

I once had a strange cd with a lot of shareware programs on it, and all the games that were on it were some old 80s DOS games. There was one of them that I actually enjoyed - you played a robot and had to move around some futuristic looking house, I think there also were some people running around and iirc it was even possible to shoot. Bird perspective, moving from screen to screen. The title was one word and I think it starts with "c". Captive? Capsule?

There's also a sentence that's floating in my head currently. It's a female, fairly soothing voice with some accent asking something like "And now? What are we going to do next?" I think it's this gen and has something to do with RPGs.

Arcade game. It was like a two in one cabinet. One game was a fighting game, and the other was a side stroller where you play as a red and blue dude (might have been ninjas), who throw ninja stars. I thought it was made by SNK but I can't find anything about it. Plz help VG historian Gaf.

Been trying to track this one down for a while.

Platform: Mac (Quadra 630)
Year: Mid-1990s
Description: "3D" space ship shooter. Think it was an endless runner, can't quite remember. Wireframe visuals. Green and black. Lots of shitty particle effects on death. Oh, and awesome.

The name of it is lodged somewhere in my brain, so I'll know it when I see it!! xD

Could someone help me figure out the name of this arcade (?) game. I've only seen screenshots of it in a really old magazine but it looked like a beat em up similar to Sengoku or Final Fight with large sprites. One of the screenshots showed the characters walking in what looked like clouds and there was a dragon-like enemy emerging from the ground. One of the characters was wearing a robin hood type of hat if I still remember it right.
