Hype from who exactly though, current Wii U owners and Nintendo fans? Exactly. The people in this thread who are claiming they are fine just getting the game info from Nintendo Directs like they have been, because they already own their Wii U's and are just salivating looking for their next game. Nintendo needs to increase their install base and what many people in this thread aren't able to do is put themselves in the shoes of an average joe who is not a Nintendo fan, who doesn't already own a Wii U. Those are the people Nintendo severely need to get hyped about their product.
This is an argument I keep seeing popping up that is just very odd to me. "Well the product sucks anyways so why promote it" Well, thats an awesome business attitude to have and does wonders for mind share. Why on earth do people keep up with the Nintendo Doom and Gloom I have no idea....
Seriously though, its the same thing I lay the blame fully at Sony's feet for Vita. You can come up with excuse after excuse after excuse but it really just comes off as a parent making excuses and enabling their druggie kid to get away with whatever when they are doing it to themselves. The product is good, hell I came up with several awesome game ideas the moment I saw it, yet Nintendo, the "great innovator" has done jack shit with it. Where is the Pokemon Skylander type stuff that could use the tablet? Where is advance wars on the tablet? Fire Emblem? MARIO FUCKING PAINT! This is stuff that should have been done and ready by now. Where the hell is the games that use the tablet for more than a map screen? Where was the great marketing push to educate people on the difference between a Wii and Wii U and why they should purchase one? Oh yea, that one commercial last christmas, great stuff (though I give Nintendo that was more than what Sony gave Vita).
You can't claim a product was unappealing to the masses when a company literally sends a product out the door to die. They thought they had that fickle Wii base still and they would all automatically come over to Wii U without them having to raise a finger. They had to put some effort into it, and they didn't and won't. They are a company that hates to change direction and would rather take their ball and go home. Which is fine, if they weren't a business.
