US PSN: Golden Week Sale Celebrates Japanese Games

Is the MGS HD Collection for Vita any good? The reports about low resolution and framerate do not sound too positive.

Low resolution and framerate? not even true.

Nobody would probably ever know MGSHD collection runs at less than native outside a couple spots(720x448 with AA I believe) until DF told them and the framerate is solid outside a couple spots in MGS2. MGS3 runs way better than PS2 version still, solid 30fps throughout compared to PS2 where the game would drop below 20 at times. PS3 collection is of course the best one to get if you want 60FPS on all games including MGS3 and Peacewalker

So Persona 4 Arena Ultimate Edition is $22.49 when I was certain it was a regular $44.99 on PSN, not to mention the regular edition is more expensive at $29.99. So I'm not sure if this is being considered part of the Golden Week sale, or some funky strange price drop occurred recently that has the Ultimate Edition priced lower than the regular edition. Will this be a Persona franchise sale that's still having the prices updated? Or just a Persona 4 'franchise' sale?

OMG this was exactly the deal I wanted. Thanks for making this post about the Arena bundle.

I have no clue about your questions, but I greatly appreciate your post.

Think I'm going to pass on Muramasa. Still salty at Sony for putting all those curve games into the IGC when they all had a PS+ discount earlier in the year. Europe just got it in the IGC as well so I'm sure Muramasa will be added to US IGC during the summer. In for Meruru and Ys though

Picked up:

Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Muramasa
P4G

and since when is there no sales tax in Canada on the PSN store?

thank you based SONY

Atlus games get unannounced sales all the time. Don't read too much into it.

So picked these up:

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles
Muramasa Rebirth
Metal Gear Solid Collection Vita
Chrono Cross.

Not bad. Might get Soul Calibur 5 later.

Haha, I'm glad I could be help. I myself have been eyeing P4A, but have never jumped on it because I'm not much of a fighting game fan (only really ever play Smash when it comes to fighters), so I'm not sure if it would be worth it for me. But then I get to thinking about how I like Smash mainly because I get to fight as characters I like and I also heard that P4A continues P4's story, which is appealing even if it's just a minor story continuation, so I'm still considering it.

EDIT: I guess I might as well pose the question: As a huge Persona fan, is it worth it for me to pick up Persona 4 Arena?

Ok... just got:

Persona 4 Golden, Muramasa, both Atelier Vita games, and Ys. I'm ready for some jrpg goodness once I pick up my 2000 a week from today. So excited.

Really want to pick up MGSHD and DBZ Battle of Z, but PS+ has spoiled me with all those free games each month. I can't help but think if I wait another month or two, those games might be offered free as part of the IGC =/ I know I know, I'm a cheap bastard.

Whats with this game and Barrels?

Do you not have a Vita yet? Don't forget you need to buy an expensive ass memory card as well :(

I guess hoping for ToS HD to be sold on its own for $5 was a bit unrealistic. Unsure if I should bite for the full collection at $10.

It's a great collection of the Vita and anyone who says otherwise is nuts.

Sure, I would have loved native resolution, but it still looks great.

I don't think I've ever seen a point where there wasn't at least one Atlus game on sale
The past two or three weeks were dry, actually. Trine 2 was in the deals section that whole time, but none of their Japanese-developed games went on sale, IIRC.

The DLC is all cosmetic. If you're primarily interested in playing it for the story, I'd suggest getting a used physical copy - they're going for ~$15, which is the same price as the standard edition on PSN when it goes on sale.

Nabbed Symphonia, DMC, and Muramasa. Still debating P4G and ZoE. Reviews of ZoE are a bit confusing. I remember GAF wasn't too keen on it. Gamespot says framerate sucks, IGN says framerate is great. I love the series though, so maybe there's no fighting this one...

I'd consider doing that, especially considering I hate getting physical games digitally.

I don't either, lol. What I did was buy a 32 gb that I found on ebay for about $10 cheaper, and the BL2 bundle comes with an 8 gb card. I think I'll be able to manage with that much space, and when black friday comes around hopefully there are some good deals on the cards, like there was last year.

The patch fixed ZOE2 and it's now perfect.

If you are not much of a fighting game fan, you can still have your fun with the game. Getting through the story mode of the game is extremely easy, they catered to the RPG crowd with that. You can pull off supers just by mashing a button. If you are looking to approach this game as a vehicle for story and fun with friends, I'd say it's worth it.

If you are looking to get deep into the mechanics and get good, that's a tougher sell, with the sequel coming out this September and people who have stuck with it this far know how this game works extremely well.

So it is up to you depending on how your approach it.

$51 gone but a good amount of gaming gained. That ToS is way too tempting but I mostly use my Vita and 3ds nowadays.

I'm kind of surprised there aren't any FF games on sale honestly. Still, one of the better PSN sales (IMO).

Got:

Atelier Meruru
Atelier Totori
Chrono Cross
MGS Vita

That's pretty much all I want out of it, thanks for the response! Will probably download it later today!

I know that right now the problem could be traffic, but I'm really getting mad at the speed my Vita is downloading stuff. Jesus, the speed is atrocious. I changed my router, tried opening more ports, everything I could, and the speed is still terrible. The strange thing is that it wasn't this bad a couple of weeks ago.

Vita wifi just sucks from my experience. Anyone know if the 2000 wifi is any better?

Man my Vita library is starting to pan out. I should really buy one of those things

My Vita library is gargantuan, and i haven't even bought anything from this sale yet (probably will buy the MGS Collection).

Sad thing is I haven't even played many games on my Vita; I've beaten Uncharted, Rayman Origins, Tearaway, Secret Agent Clank, Ratchet+Clank Size Matters, and not much else.
But I own FFX/X-2, Dragons Crown, Rayman Legends, a huge amount of PS+ games, Spelunky, Little King Story, Killzone, a bunch of PS1 and PSP games, and more!

I really need to get working on some of these, haha.

How good are the Zone of Enders games? Never played them.

Should I start with the second one?

If you plan on playing both, start with 1. ZOE2 is so much better that going backwards will make ZOE1 seem really bad in comparison.

You're totally ok with skipping 1 altogether though.

The consensus of Hot Shots Golf 6 for PS3 is that, as a Vita launch title ported to PS3, it's a little content starved and not really a replacement for Hot Shots Golf 5, right?
