Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

That would explain why the model was so well-detailed. Then again, Sega & Nintendo are like best friends now, so them approving Sonic's return wasn't surprising.

I always figured developers / publisher would want their characters in Smash Bros, regardless of the relationship with Nintendo. There are few things that give better exposure.

Anyways, how about that Dillon fella.

Great AT addition. I'm actually surprised Sakurai put him in the game in some form other than a trophy.

Me too. I hope it means we see other really obscure assists and stages. Pushmo stage, Harmoknight AT, though I have never played either but heard a lot about them and they sound cool. I also have a feeling we could get a chibi robo AT though playable would be way cooler.

Speaking of assists: I can't help but notice we haven't seen a K.I:U AT yet. What are we thinking would be most suitable for it and do you think we will get a 2nd 3ds or Wii U stage from the franchise?

The first two seem legit but there is no such thing as an atmospheric region of space. You need a planet for an atmosphere ;P

I didn't say atmospheric region of space. They could be within the atmosphere of a planet with space still visible, since that happens on earth every night. I said gaseous region of space, as in a nebula or something :P

Heh, yeah. I used to wonder about who would be expected to pay who for the scenario. I guess it's probably just mutual agreements; it's definitely a benefit to both.

why does ganondorf have a moveset similar to c. falcon anyway?

He wanted to expand the roster so he added 7 clones as opposed to adding King Dedede.

He mentioned that Ganondorf "got lucky" since he had a similar body build to that of Captain Falcon, so that's why he was a clone of him.

I think we'll get a Pushmo stage for the 3DS game, though, I'd also like an AT for the franchises you've mentioned. Chibi Robo game came out on the 3DS recently too right?

I don't think we'll get a second stage for KI:U in the Wii U version. The 3DS version maybe, though, I'm pulling this out of my ass based on which platform the game came out for.

But WiiFit was successful, so it kinda makes sense when you think about it. Also, WiiFit is a Wii game, which is older than Dillon which is a 3DS game. If you're comparing by relative creation date, you should be saying "Greninja got in over Dillon".

I also have no idea where you got the idea that Dillon was more popular than a character from WiiFit. Even Andre completely forgot Dillon existed.

I heard Wii Fit Trainer got in from a discussion of using the Wii Fit Board as a controller. Although I have no problems with her, if the character was thought of as a joke, probably should have put her on the back burner.

Dillon before WFT made me laugh. No way, son. Wii Fit solely represents a (mostly) unexplored genre which Nintendo pioneered on the invincible Wii. Dillon, while a great character design, represents a handheld tower defense game that's only been out for a couple of years. I like the franchise, but it's lucky to have even gotten AT status.

how the fuck do you play smash on this thing

my muscle memory tells me that's the x button ; _ ;

That shot with Dillion and Sonic is brutal. Seeing the stupid character who made it in next to such an awesome one that only made it as an AT is sad.

I'm not hating on Sonic but after seeing Dillion in HD made me really want to see him playable character. It would be cool if they are going to play it off as rivalry between Sonic and Dillion.

And the world will burn, at least mine will. Lol.

I'm pretty sure that many fans' world would burn.

well, you could customized the controller setting. That's if they still bring it over to Smash Wii U. It might be awkward at first but I'm pretty sure that we could get used to it pretty fast if we have no options.

This is a horrible idea and you should feel bad for making it

Why? What he's saying is what you want. Isaac is being next assist trophy to be playable character, like Little Mac.

I doubt they'd let us customize controls at Best Buy, though.

Nor do I think we'll be able to play for more than 2 minutes.

Meaning I better get used to this shit now if I want to make that demo time worthwhile... ugh.

I actualy have a question about this controler, does any one know how the lag from using a wirless controler will affect the gameplay? or given that there is no wired Wii U controler it won't matter because everyone will be on the same playfield?

I'm sure they'll allow you to customize controls like in Brawl. Although, I do wonder if they'll give us the wide arrange of control options again like Wiimote, Nunchuck, and Classic Controller.

And why is a gamecube-style pro controller not a thing yet?

Well, no Meta Knight today after all! That knocks both us and the Ice Climbers predictors out of the veteran poll.

Guess they're holding him back for now. Hopefully because they've been working on nerfing the hell out of him!

Read that weirdly at first lol. Don't know how I added a few words in there, but I somehow ended up reading that Isaac would be next confirmed AT

I feel bad abour it

You should feel even more bad for giving my mistake the attention it didn't need.

I actually really want Isaac playable.

Lag is inherent both to wireless controllers and HD TVs, so you're pretty much stuck with some input lag no matter what you do. The good news is it's usually negligible and easy to get used to within a few minutes of playing.

For Smash Bros. tournaments and the like the Wii U having no wired controllers will be much more an issue of wireless interference than any sort of lag. Every day I hope Nintendo announces a wired controller for that purpose... every day I am disappointed.

How is it crazy?

Wii Fit Trainer was a complete surprise to everyone except for the one insider who posted here before the reveal. Dillon had a small, yet noticeable fandom rallying for him to make it in. I'd bet that if anyone had to choose which was more likely to be playable in a Smash Bros. they'd pick Dillon because his game actually had some semblance of combat in it while Wii Fit is... Wii Fit.

It's crazy. It's not bad, it's not wrong, it's just crazy/unexpected/out-of-left-field/Etc. Playable characters apparently aren't chosen based on popularity or displays of conventional fighting prowess. It's surprising when a hardly anyone thought of as a possibility gets picked and another character that fights in their game becomes an item. don't know why anyone would act that that isn't at all unexpected or jarring.

But WiiFit was successful, so it kinda makes sense when you think about it. Also, WiiFit is a Wii game, which is older than Dillon which is a 3DS game. If you're comparing by relative creation date, you should be saying "Greninja got in over Dillon".

Wii Fit representation in the game isn't surprising. Having the Wii Fit Trainer be playable is very surprising, no one expected that. Both characters are old enough to have made it into this upcoming game in some form, so if there's a cut-off date for characters that could've made it in, they both existed before it. I can't speak on Greninja since I haven't followed Pokemon; if that's a starter or legendary pokemon, or was popular in the anime, then I could see how it'd manage to make it in. This statement isn't based on any evidence that any one character had to compete with another in order to be playable, yet WFT still made it into the roster while Dillon didn't.

Dillon would be a much more conventional and expected choice for a playable character than WFT. Dillon also certainly had more people who actively wanted him to be a playable character than those that wanted a playable WFT because no one even conceived the possibility of a playable Wii Fit character. WFT is an unexpected addition, but not in the same retro way as G&W or R.O.B. Duck Hunt Dog would be more comparable than past "strange" roster additions, a non-playable side character who's never engaged in a fight.

Never said Dillon's Rolling Western is more popular than Wii Fit. Never said Dillon should be in over WFT. Not even complaining about it. Still, this all makes it hard to figure out how playable characters are chosen since there's seemingly no discernible metric. Does that make sense?

I'll probably play some P:M using the classic control to get used to it. Actually, I should probably play some Brawl, since this game will be more like that. But at least the Pro controller is way better than the CC; the sticks are a decent height. Too bad about the gates and the face buttons though. :(

Never thought about interference I always thought lag was the problem with wireless controlers, that will probably be a major problem for tournaments, maybe they'll announce one if they keep doing smash tournaments after the e3 one, probably not :\.

I honestly think they're gonna rotate the defaults around clockwise. That way, it'd resemble Smash 64's layout a little more.

Same way it's on the classic controller?

'Pro controller A' = Gamecube X
Pro controller B = Gamecube A
Pro controller Y = Gamecube B
Pro Controller X = Gamecube Y

It works fine.

Still, this all makes it hard to figure out how playable characters are chosen since there's seemingly no discernible metric. Does that make sense?

Characters are chosen by their significance, not their popularity or fighting ability. Then characters are weeded out if a competent moveset cannot be built for them, or they run into time constraints.

Characters are chosen based on a formula not unlike how pokemon are caught in the older pokemon games.

Catch_formula_1.png

a = character chance to get in
HP(max) = Lifetime popularity/relevance of character
HP(Current) = Time (months) since last game was released (as of character inclusion)
Rate = number of games character has been in
Bonus ball = How unique character's fighting style could be
Bonus status = How unique the character looks

Using my formula, a character who is unpopular can get in, but only if he/she is extremely unique/quirky.
A character who is only recently popular (but their game JUST came out) can also be included, due to the low 'HP (Current)'
And of course, popular characters from franchises with multiple entries also have a really high chance to get in :p

I believe Ice Climbers would end up with a negative number. Despite their unique moveset, their overall importance: last game ratio is way off.
