Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I can see Sakurai getting rid of the bike or giving it a nice buff. And agreed his recovery isn't the best so maybe his bike could be changed to have a chargeable boost (similar to Diddy or even Lucario's now) that will help his recovery. And Wario is the least of my worries for Smash so I'd be ok if he's the same honestly.

Chargeable boost or it just getting an automatic horizontal boost while in the air would work, but yeah. I agree on the sentiment of him staying the same being the least to be concerned with. I hope the space animals recoveries are tweaked a bit. (Especially Wolf, ugh)

Agreed on the spacies lol.

He will be the only one who can glide.

lol oddly, that's what I was thinking. I'm going to assume it's gone for now.

I can already see it...
Sakurai said:
For Meta Knight's new down taunt, he pulls Ridley out of his cape...

...Then puts him away.

Seriously, in Brawl he was a fast and small character with disjointed hitboxes, little to no lag on nearly all of his attacks, multiple jumps, the fastest glide and glide attack in the game and whose specials can all be used for recovering in some way... I mean, he even sounds broken.

I'm banking on the glide being gone completely. Only now Metaknight has 36 jumps to compensate.

Seeing Bowser's recovery get an upgrade along with the longer tethers does my heart good. If Ganondorf gets the Falcon special again I hope his recovery is extended to be some massive levitating jump. I don't mind if he jet packs people off the stage again I just want that blasted thing to go somewhere.

You forgot multiple kill moves, one of which was a recovery tool that led into another kill move.

It's kinda unbelievable how broken Metaknight is on a a fundamental level. Even with the stage selection and rules set awkwardly skewed to remove his most broken tools, he's the best character by far in a game where the second best character can kill you off a grab from 0%. The only thing that wasn't amazing was his final smash.

Street Fighter will outlive the arcade stick. We will have to move on eventually.

Difference being that arcade cabinets are still being made.

I'd love nothing more than for Nintendo to recognize the scene and do something about an official Wii U GCN controller, but I don't see it happening, and if they're not supporting it this time, they won't next time either and by then the White GCN controllers on Amazon will have dried up.

Anyway, it's not like you can hook a GCN controller to a 3DS, so I'll have gotten use to the layout by the time Smash U comes out.

Would be nice to see Nintendo throw out a Gamecube themed WiiU Pro Controller.
I wonder if perhaps Mad Catz will do their own thing. If they put the seriousness that they do with their sticks it could turn out well.

A GCN controller would be good for Smash Bros and only for Smash Bros. I cannot imagine another game where it would be superior to a conventional controller.

You can just tell that Smash needs more females from his pictures.
I need more casual Rosalina pictures for my collection

So I went into and got a Nerf grip for my 2DS today, and between it and the Circle Pad cover I got a couple of months ago, I imagine my Smash 3DS experience is going to be pretty comfortable. Anyone else tricking out their 3DS/XL/2DS like I am? Or are you all going in raw?

I own a CPP for my OG 3DS.

Pure comfort right there. I just hope it supports CPP.

A third party can (and I think will) release a Gamecube controller that is compatible with Wii U. Just like they release arcade sticks that have been compatible with every console.

Asking a Smash player to stop using the Gamecube controller at this point (Many have been playing for 13 years, including myself) is like asking a fighting game player to stop using stick and just start learning pad. It can be done, of course, but it's annoying as fuck and I'd rather not.

I think after seeing just how large the competitive Smash community is, and how successful MLG and EVO will be this year, a third party will see the demand for a Gamecube-like pro controller and put one out. Here's hoping.

That would be gabukichi. Here's their Pixiv account: http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=2273505

I've been an advocate for this for years. I blame my sisters for that though, they'd always ask me if they'd put any new girls into Smash and wonder who they'd be and it led to me looking things up for them. Nintendo has a lot of cool females (both in terms of character and potential they'd bring to a fighting roster) but for whatever reason, Smash has been very very slow to utilize them.

If you want more gender diversity, you can just consider all of the Pokemon females.

Eh, I wouldn't go that far. Offensively hes about as good as Fox is in Melee. The reasons why he seems overall is.
1. Hes easier for be really good with than Fox.
2. Fox has able to be combo-ed easy, so his high offense can be viewed to be balanced by his "poor" defense
3. Metaknight doesn't have to play in a way that creates an aesthetic that viewers would enjoy. Aka good character plays cheaply thus he must really be cheap.

He can also get back to the stage from anywhere on screen. All those points add together to make him the best character by far. No other character in brawl has come close.

What are you talking about? Pretty much every system ever has had a joystick. The gamecube controller was only on gamecube, which then could be used with Wii. "Every other fighting game and arcade game" is also a bigger market than "people who want to play smash bros on WiiU". You think a company will shell out that kind of money to make a nonessential controller for a system that nobody bought?

Absolutely yes. The last Smash game sold 10 million copies. There is a huge Smash community out there that would be willing to buy this product, and I'm not just talking about the competitive Smash scene. Considering some of the shit out there that gets green lit, I think a Gamecube controller for Wii U (or at least an adapter) is completely realistic.

The last Smash game was on Wii, this one is on WiiU. That's a huge difference, if you think Smash 5 will come even close to those numbers, you're a crazy person. Same goes if you think a significant fraction of the people who buy it need to play with a gamecube controller. It's one thing to make a cheap adapter that causes slight lag (like they already have), but it's completely different to manufacture a different controller. You're kidding yourself.

It's also worth mentioning that a few WiiU games have avoided using Classic Controller support, so you would need to make a completely new controller anyway. It couldn't just be an adapter.

I'm not saying Smash U will come close to Brawl numbers. Or even Melee numbers. But it will still sell millions of copies. The demand is there.

I guarantee you more people would buy a Wii U Gamecube controller than an Xbox One arcade stick. Yet here we are, with a $200 arcade stick made specifically for Killer Instinct.

It also wouldn't be just for Smash, obviously. It would be a Wii U Pro Controller shaped like a Gamecube controller. A great fit for something like Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8, or any other game compatible with the Pro Controller.

Besides, if Nintendo wants to release Gamecube games on Virtual Console, they're going to need to have analog triggers.

Yeah, it's going to be a nightmare to get used to at first because the 'C-Stick' will and face buttons are like switched. I'm used to swiping to the left and below my buttons, not above and to the right. I'm going to try and use it to start, but if it's too weird I'm just going to buy the adapter to use my GC controller on it.

The cause of Sakurai's arm cramps has been revealed.

I think millions is even an overestimate. Even the most successful WiiU games have only sold a few million, and Smash wasn't exactly the most successful game on wii. I guarantee you less people would buy the Gamecube controller, because there's a much smaller install base.

That controller would end up being pretty expensive. Nobody is gonna drop that kind of money so that they can play on a 3rd party Gamecube knockoff. Especially for things like Wind Waker HD lol.

Seriously, you're just blatantly making stuff up at this point.
