Woke up and glad to see the hype still going strong for this "rumored" project. Gut feeling says don't expect much at E3 regarding this though. TGS I believe is when they were gonna blow the fucking lid off this thing. :)

I hope I'm wrong and they'll do a blow-out at E3 instead now because of this leak.

Little bit of backpedaling here. "They wouldn't want to bite the hand that feeds them and risk getting less info slung their way" sure seems like you attacking reporters' integrity. (Also totally not accurate.)

Fun to see GAF so excited about this, though. I promise if I hear anything, it'll be on Kotaku. (And of course if anyone reading this thread would like to share details under condition of anonymity, you know where to reach me.)

so have you asked around? at least get a good-ol' "no comment" or "have yet to respond".

But have you asked any of your numerous and legitimate sources "Hey, know anything about those Beast Souls pictures?".

Also wondering this. I don't think anyone is looking for an article saying the game is real or not, but at least something saying these pictures exist and everyone we asked said they are fake/not fake.

Reporters' integrity - that's been the subject of many debates in the past. And for good reason.

It will look like that soon enough.. meanwhile, my avatar fits it too perfectly. I'll add myself later if no one beats me to it.

Right, I'm going to try and get everyone who's requested a seat between the last image and this post on the train. Give me anywhere up to an hour to sort this out!*

*We're going to start getting some overlapping in now, so I need to jiggle things about** a bit.

**Ha ha ha!

You have a heart of gold.

You are awesome.

Avatar hype trains on GAF have generally ended up in disasters for the last two years...

For the sake of the game and myself, I'm staying far away from that train.

Anyone know what Bloodbourne is about? Another trademarked game by Sony according to mystic on youtube.

Didn't want to make a topic but I didn't see one. That's 3 games that have been trademarked recently on top of this game being leaked, though it may potentially be one of the three trademarked games.

Really excited for this.

Demon soul ranks on the top 5 ps3 games for me, so damn good.

It possibly being a sequel makes me super hyped. Even if it isn't, it's still from from software and SONY so still very hyped.

That's very gracious! I hope you'll include me even though I haven't officially bought a ticket yet!

So you did not partake in inFamous avatar beanie frenzy? Such a shame...

I did not, but that doesn't count as an avatar hype train.

I'm talking about the last few gaf attempts of people sticking their avatars onto the picture of a train.

I can not think of a time it ended up well.

Thank you!

Fair enough...

However, even if it fails, we get to see the train crash and burn! It's still kinda fun.

Could you comment on the limitations of publisher embargoes? Could a publisher demand you not comment on a leak just because you've been informed about the game to some extent?

I would imagine you could post a link to a leak just with no editorializing?

Some have speculated that Bloodbourne could be the official title for this game, I believe. Beyond that I haven't heard anything else about it.

Well, it depends. This is actually something we've been discussing a lot recently, because it seems to happen so often -- some media were pre-briefed on that new Borderlands game, for example, and it leaked two days before the embargo.

In a case like that, there's no way a publisher can realistically demand that media ignore the leak, because that would be stupid. Once the information is out there, it's out there. A publisher can, however, ask that we maintain our own embargo -- in other words, we wouldn't be able to report or write about anything we learned through whatever interviews or materials they sent us under condition of embargo, because we agreed to that condition in the first place. (Remember: game publishers don't owe us information. Embargoes are not a bad thing -- they exist in part to ensure that writers can all compete on an equal playing field.)

But this presents an interesting dilemma: What's a site to do when a leak like that happens? Do they run the leak as a rumor, pretending they don't know it's true (arguably misleading their readers)? Do they say fuck it and just break embargo? Do they ignore the leak entirely?

There's no easy answer here. Part of me wishes we'd just stop agreeing to previews like that in the first place, because participating in a publisher's marketing cycle by far is the least interesting (and most gross) part of this beat for me, but I don't know how realistic that would be.
