also helped by a super impatient Hawk. That said getting zoned out as a grappler is really frustrating, and it's hard to fight that impulse.

That said, I do think Hawk's weaknesses are going to be known more/exploited more in Ultra, so I think you'll see more of this- I just hope it isn't so much that Hawk drops to below mid tier.
Solid T. Hawk play involved heavy footsies to begin with, so he got better in that regard. Once people learn to exploit his weaknesses with the matchup appearing more often then he'll just drop out of the "overpowered" conversation.

Edit: Oh yeah, T. Hawk vs Chun-Li used to be a nightmare for T. Hawk. It was pretty much like Honda vs. Chun-Li, so you don't even need a dp to stop T. Hawk's air approach.

I'm enjoying it more now that the talent level is higher and there's less people who don't have a chance at winning filling the brackets.

I think Firebrand is legit part of the metagame now, and it's great to see Apologyman taking out god-level players. Also Kubota being used as a real tactic.

Enzo et. al.

I know it's ECT weekend, but Chicago will be hosting a local tournament on Saturday, May 10th. It's IGNITION: Road to UFGTX. Stream will be at http://www.twitch.tv/ignitegl. Hope some of you at least have it open in another window.

And if anybody in the Illinois-Indiana-Wisconsin area is actually interested in attending, information can be found here.

I know folks talk about Doom, Vergil, and Zero a lot, but the number of viable cast members is actually pretty huge right now. There are only a few, like Tron Bonne and She-Hulk, that are truly terrible. Hell, we almost just had a Hulk player win a major tournament, and Hulk has been considered crap for most of this game's life.

Most of the GGA guys are going. So Injustice will be good if anyone cares. Watch me get streamrolled by Bane again.

No Nemo/FChamp MM//exhibition was disappointing but the rest of the matches were the most fun I had watching Marvel in a while. Thanks NWM for bringing the international Marvel players.

Oh and FChamp be ducking!

A bit off topic but I was at Stunfest in France this weekend and a bit before the finals of SF4 I saw two players dropping their shirts to play an old sega arcade cab.

This event was amazing. :'D

I think I can actually smell these guys through my monitor.

If only they were playing the superior LA Machine Guns

complete with "hoverboard" you stand on and big black rumbling weapon you grasp in your hands

Tell KillaCam he's a fucking FUH-ROD.
(And I miss him)

LA Machine Guns is the shit. The local arcade has it so I make it a point to play it when I can. That and Soul Calibur 3 are pretty fun, probably the only good permanent things in that arcade.

speaking of non-ECT tournaments, there's yet another MLG qualifier for Melee this week: Get On My Level, which is on May 10-11th in Canada
Canadians are free
Kappa

there's already 130+ people registered for Melee, and also if anyone cares (lol) Brawl is using a 1 stock Bo5 ruleset instead of the usual

That Brawl thing sounds dumb but boy do I wanna watch it

I'll do a Casper-post in a bit but I need to drive Tokido, Nemo, and Abegen to the airport for their flight.

Top 8 at NWM was hella good, with tons of variety of characters and playstyles and a lot of exciting moments. Marvel's not dead yet.
Marvel's Not Dead

Forums poster and devout Marvel fanboy Dahbomb finds his faith tested by dogmatic and argumentative moderator Shouta.

Choice quotes:
Shouta: "Repeat after me. A Marvel patch is not happening."
Dahbomb: "I'm sorry, I can't do that."
Shouta: "You will do it by the end of the major or else you'll be banned from NeoGaf."

I loved that thread with Lionel Mandrake synopsis of the film "God's not dead"

So is Marvel dead now

--

Anyone looking to play AE/KOF today?

I still find Marvel as enjoyable as I always have.

There's plenty of games that are dead. Marvel is far from being one of them. But then again how hype would the finals have been if Chris G was a part of it?

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Marvel is still alive and well. It surely is the start of a wonderful week.

Which ones in particular?

Bad habits are easy stuff like just not thinking and playing active footsies, bad learning habits of not learning your full combos and stuff, etc.

Bad mentalities are just people not willing to listen and try to understand the game deeper, or admit when they're wrong etc, or the basic ones of caring too much about tiers and MUs and other BS when their understanding of fundamentals is completely backwards. Being willingly ignorant is the worst thing people keep doing to annoy me.

I finally got some good local people willing to learn, but man working around online is bugging me. Seriously, I don't know how Juicebox keeps his sanity playing SF4 and teaching people.

I can't believe the Champ/Nemo money match didn't happen. I hope this doesn't diminish the number of future appearances from Nemo at American tournaments. Flying from Japan isn't cheap, and I'd assume he's confident enough in his money match prowess that he was counting on bringing it home.

I think Shouta mostly paid for Nemo to come out here this time? Sadly, no Nemo at EVO this year either; we talked to him last night and it does not sound like he is coming. Shouta can probably go into better detail about reasoning.

Nemo The Kickstarter Campaign. Shouta, you got your first 10 dollars right here. Seriously speaking, if we rounded up people, I'm pretty sure we can get a full ride for Nemo.

I would love to see a fighting game that trains you in different ways through exercises. Here are some examples that I think Marvel could use (I choose this game because I know it best):

Pursuing opponents effectively:
The AI controls Dormammu and continually tridashes away mixed with random teleports. The AI blocks 100% of the time forward and pushblocks, but will never break throws or block a cross-up. You must hit Dormammu.

I like this exercise because it's basically my point Dormammu team, which I use against people who just don't know how to mount an offense and apply pressure.

Mix-up tutorial:
The AI controls will block everything until you perform a high/low or low/high within X number of frames.

Pressure tutorial:
You must attack three times between being pushblocked before the AI will take a hit.

Stuff like this would be so fun to play through, and it would really teach folks how to play. Street Fighter could have focus attack tutorials and such.

Have you played Killer Instinct? I felt the trials in that game were pretty damn good.

Not sure if this was posted already:

Skullgirls Twitter said:
Squigly's free period for #Skullgirls Encore on US PSN is almost up! After May 6 she'll be $4.99 so d/l her now.

Also, you don't need the game to download her.
