Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I mean, it lags, but I think they kinda made up for it with every other aspect of the game. It's kinda like how people don't complain as much when a game like Fallout 3 has minor glitches.

Ehhh, not really. Overworld graphics suck, postgame is barebones, barely any new pokemon, horrid story and characters even by Pokemon standards.

The battle graphics look good I guess.

The overworld graphics are better than anything we'd seen before, and the lack of New Pokemon is supplemented by Megas. Also the game play is all around far better than anything else we've seen to date, from the new breeding mechanics to the new hidden abilities. The story and characters aren't any worse than normal, and at least this time they tried something new.

Lack of post game kinda sucks though.

I don't, because some of the other aspects of the game also weren't that good. Content-wise the game was poor, the characters weren't that good, nor was the music.
Agreed. Look at the overworld in ALBW. Runs at 60 with zero problems, 3D or not. I don't know what went wrong with XY.
Or even Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Sure, you lose some AA in 3D, but the game still runs at 60fps with or without the effect.
barely any new pokemon.
To me, that was one of the good things, actually.

Same here. I hope they continue to kinda wind down with the new monsters.
Nice, thought I was the only one. Every time I say that I am happy with Game Freak creating less Pokémon for XY (because there are too many of them already), people jump down on my throat. I mean, I get that to a lot of people, the appeal of new Pokémon games are the new Pokémon, but that doesn't mean Game Freak needs to create 100~150 every new generation. 60~70 is more than enough... or even only 50. We already have almost 800 Pokémon, for Arceus' sake.

That being said, sadly I think Game Freak is still going to release more new Pokémon in Generation VI, judging by how fast the new Pokémon are debuting in the anime. Or to the very least, they might have a lot of new Mega Evolutions to introduce (that would be cool, but unlikely I guess). Oh well...

I can't really see a scenario where they stop making new ones. It's just what I'd prefer.

My ideal of it, is for them to asymptotically approach 1000, reach it (or 999) and just stop. From then on, focus on making significant nerfs/buffs to old ones, shake up all the moves/abilities, put more effort into scenario/campaign/story each game, even get Gamefreak themselves to try out different styles of Pokemon game maybe.

I already hate that I don't know all the Pokemon any more. Even worse is to think of how bad I would be about it in 10 or 20 years, when there are around 2000.

Yeah, that is the worse part.

But I don't want they to stop making new Pokémon, that would be a bad business decision. Just make less... and fill the gap with Mega Evolutions. At least for the next two or so generations.

I would love them forever if they did that.

Good morning everybody. Anyone remember if the octoroks were in the direct at all, or is this the first 'it was in the direct' post since early last week?

You guys think smash 4 will have some sort of product tie-in? Anything that's used by the game itself?

NFC?
Collectible AR cards?

I actually really liked the kid icarus AR card thing. I worked at gamestop at the time and nintendo rep managed to drop off like 5-6 packs of cards, so I have an OK sized collection, though not nearly complete. If they do something like that, I hope they actually release them more in the US.

Smash bros and zelda are probably 2 of the only franchises that I would buy every piece of tie-in products, if sold. I'd buy boxes of AR cards or all of the NFC figures/cards if sold.

Also, any clues on what streetpass might do for 3DS?

I know, it's not even the worst Eeveelution.
It's the second worst.

OT: Have we ever had an Ice Pokemon Pokeball that isn't Kyurem? Think same effect as hitting someone as a Freezie.
Was Articuno in Melee? I seem to remember Zapdos and Moltres at least.

And Glaceon is about even with Leafeon for 2nd/3rd worst. Sylveon is the worst. All the others are so good though, you can't blame the new ones for falling a little short.

Anyone have any good ideas for street pass for 3ds? I'm really racking my brain as to what it could be. My best guess is that it ties in to something that hasn't been announced yet.

Few ideas for what it could be, ranked from bad to good:

  1. Like Monster hunter guild cards - You trade a card with game records (wins/losses), smash power, etc. that you can look at. Yay...
  2. Street fighter 4 style - you have your 'streetpass avatar' fight their 'streetpass avatar', and if you win (rock paper scissors style) you get coins/trophies.
  3. Animal crossing style - create a room with your best trophies/stickers. Show it off. People you streetpass get to check out how you laid out your trophies.
  4. Game AI - you hand over an AI version of your playstyle that they can challenge for coins/trophies
  5. ghost data - smash run/target ghost data is sent over street pass
  6. Custom stage - you hand over a custom stage you made, and they can use it.
  7. Custom fighter - you hand over your custom version of a fighter to be used
  8. Mii - you hand over your mii to be used in smash bros, or whatever that entails
  9. smash run AI - you hand over an AI version of your best smash run character (your stats are recorded, like 1000 speed, 760 special, etc), and you fight them in a 2 minute, post-smash-run-style fight.
  10. Kid icarus style - directly hand over some sort of item that can be used at the cost of coins. I'm not sure what the item would be, though. Maybe 'custom moves' or stickers or something. Item can be sold for small amount of coins if you don't want it.
  11. Monster hunter 4 style - you create some objective or challenge for your opponents (defeat 3 lvl 9 yoshis in 5 minutes on battlefield). If they win, they get coins/trophies.
  12. Bravely default style - you basically get a resource point used toward unlocking rewards. The more you streetpass, the faster you unlock stuff. This could be a part of some unannounced mode or something.

Must have been, they wouldn't add two without the third. Surprising that Articuno was the only one though before Kyurem (Weavile in Brawl didn't do anything ice related).

I imagine the StreetPass feature will involve swapping collectibles or something similar. Might be like Kid Icarus where it sends you a copy of a collectible and gives you the option to use in-game currency to purchase it or convert it to extra currency if it's a dupe.

You guys are thinking we'll get a character soon? I'm pretty sure at this point we'll have nothing until e3, and we'll like it.

Any post that doesn't say Flareon is the worst eeveelution should be deemed invalid.

We might get a veteran. I mean, it's not until June 10 until Nintendo's presentation, right? My prediction right now is that Pac-Man will be revealed at E3, and at E3 (or before), we will see reveals for Captain Falcon, Ness, Wario, Ice Climbers, and Meta Knight - all of whom will finalize the starting roster at a solid 31 characters (assuming Luigi, Pac-Man, Sonic, and Mega Man are unlockable characters and that Squirtle/Ivysaur do not come back).
