Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Just to check, the people posting in this thread do understand the difference between a hope-dashing reveal and genuine trolling... right? I think this might be one of the few areas where pundits genuinely do give Sakurai too much credit.

Tune in this time next week for the exclusive reveal of the Banjo-Kazooie trophy - it only cost Nintendo $6,000,000 to include!
 
I think if any W101 were playable they would have to be playable as a team (pikmin like) so it makes sense that they are not in it could be a very complex system to work out

I will say this, a lot of people thought rob was deconfirmed for brawl once we saw robs in sse story cut scenes and as enemies for sse mode. Didn't stop rob from being playable

I was always on the side of a faithful rep having to be a true to it's roots so the way I see it a tag team character is mostly what should have been done - not like Ice Climbers, but literally just having characters move like one. Red could do the standard combos (VJ homages) and smashes, Green could do the gun as a neutral special and Blue could use Stinger and Rising as Side/Up B. with Down B being the Cyclone. The Final Smash could be Mother Platinum and everyone else could be assist trophies.

With that kind of approach a rep is possible but I ain't really holding my breath any more and will just accept that it's probably not happening. I'm just going to assume the least so I don't get disappointed when I find out a character isn't in it.
 
Well, I hope that The Wonderful 101 at least gets a stage or, absolute minimum, gets a few songs in or somesuch. I'm also kinda still holding out some hope for Wonder Red as DLC, but I sincerely doubt that will happen... if they do DLC characters they will definitely stick to big, popular characters that will sell rather than niche characters like Wonder Red.

Gosh this is seriously bumming me out. Especially since, with W101 selling approximately five copies, there's basically no hope for a sequel and, in turn, extremely little hope that Wonder Red becomes playable in later Smash Bros. games... and he can't even be playable in Project M by that team's rules.

This suuuuuucks. :(
 
To all the people who actually expected Wonder Red and the people expecting a "meltdown" from this, I'm curious about something...

Have you even played Wonderful 101?
I'm one of the biggest fans of it and because I'm a fan of it, I knew there was no way Wonder Red was going to be playable.

The most iconic and distinctive aspect of W101 is the massive squad of people following you and the hilariously over-sized Morphs. Wonder Red is about the size of Mega Man and the Wonder Hand morph is three times taller than him at its smallest state. That would not work out at all for a game like this. The Morphs' attacks would cover an absurd amount of the stage and if they took the morphs out out or reduced the size it would take away everything that makes Wonder Red and Wonderful 101 itself unique.

That'd be like adding Simon Belmont but he wouldn't use the whip or side items. Could you even call that Simon Belmont? Could you even call someone who doesn't command an army of 99 heroes nor colossal sized morphs Wonder Red?

I think it's awesome he and more W101 characters are referenced. If anything, I'm amazed at how many people are expecting a meltdown or giving out patronizing "condolences" for this supposed-heartbreak reveal.

This "Sakurai trolls everything" meme is getting seriously out of hand. EVERY picture is a troll now.

With OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire announced, how's it look for that third grass starter spot which deservedly belongs to the one true king that is Sceptile?
 
Sakurai continuing with the shitty decisions I see. Not even an assist trophy FFS (I knew he was not going to be a character).
I still hate that shitty naruto frog as a main character.
Nothing more to see of this thread, will return when he decides to announce something of substance.

Yeah, I agree that the "Sakurai trolling" thing is getting ridiculously out of hand. The Pseudo-Palutena trophy in the Direct was trolling. If Ridley turns out to be playable, his shadow in the Direct would be trolling. This? Not trolling. Just disappointing and sad.

On your other point, the Unite Hand shown on the cover of TW101 is much smaller than the ones in the game, and easily could have been doable in Smash Bros. I would argue that having a moveset derived around the idea of powering up with your Unite Morphs to attack with more power and range would have been just as true to TW101's gameplay, especially if using Unite Hand came with a risk of it being hit by a rival, breaking the Morph and stunning you for some time. He could have been a character all about fluid motion and weaving in and out of the battle as necessary, utilizing a longer range grated to him by Uniting but also keeping himself on a leash so as to avoid getting taken advantage of.

After all, Pikmin's most iconic sight is a huge swarm of Pikmin and Olimar still manages to work by just plucking three of them, so...

Why not all three? Seven reps isn't really that many and could totally happen, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Lucario, Charizard, Greninja and Sceptile. Perfect lineup.
 
The last remakes to come out before brawl were leaf green and fire red in 2004. Heart gold and soul silver came out the year after smash bros. Pokemon trainer had OG trio, may or may not be related. We very well could get pokemon rep from ruby/sapphire, who knows.

This would be absolutely perfect. One starter of each type, from a wide variety of generations, a legendary Pokemon, 2 iconic and popular Pokemon, and Jiggly... because she was in all the other Smashes.

kayima being good friends with sakurai means that at least there's a good possibility one of his characters is in; it's not unreasonable to think that, anyway.
 
I'd be okay with 7 pokes, but in all honesty I've been starting to doubt Mewtwo's re-inclusion. So if we stay with the same number of 6 pokes and have our fire/water/grass starters, I'd still be okay with that.

As long as Mewtwo is in Pokken.

True, but I was just talking about Wonder Red specifically. If anything the inclusion of Sonic again was the biggest hit to Bayo's chances as I doubt they'll have two characters from the same third party company unless said company helped work on the game.
 
Gen 3 was the intro of plusle and minun.

Plusle & Minun may or may not have been planned characters for Super Smash Bros. Brawl that were ultimately left out at the end. Hackers discovered a partially programmed character under the label "PRA&MAI". The hackers were unable to access much data about "Pra & Mai", so whether or not they were in fact intended to be Plusle and Minun is only speculation.
