Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

Mega Evolutions eh? Looks awesome. This is why we shouldn't act like we know what's planed for the 3DS. I think this year is going to be a strong showing for 3DS. Also glad that the UK gets baddass coloured boxes!

Here's hoping they can manage to make Hoenn a fun region this time around.

Looking forward to getting those new MEGA legendaries at least, since it does have some of the best legendaries in the series.

OMG, I did not expect this when I woke up. I was pretty sure we'd get Ruby and Sapphire remakes but not until 2016 with Z version in early 2015. I'm so freakin hyped right now! Do we have to wait until E3 in game stuff?

sweet. these are my favourite pokemon games - i thought it had far and away the best sense of adventure, loved the big water areas and all the different h.m's. hope the remake looks good.

My least favorite Pokemon games, but maybe they can fix what I didn't like. Still a pretty good game.

I wonder why Nintendo didn't just wait for E3.

The announcement trailer (while showing no gameplay) says:

Game in 2D. Some areas playable in 3D.

To me, that's a repeat of Pokemon X/Y.

With another *year* after X/Y, they still can't figure out how to utilize one of the coolest features of the 3DS? Pokemon is pretty much the only game that can't make it happen. Every other game, big and small (including graphical powerhouses like Luigi's Mansion 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D) manages 3D.

3D is so, so cool. If we finish out the 3DS generation with zero 3D Pokemon games, I'll be quite upset. The 3D-animated (but displayed in 2D) sections of Pokemon Black / Pokemon White are awesome. Since then, I've been waiting for a 3DS Pokemon game with full 3D support. The last hope for 3D Pokemon is Pokemon Z (or X2 / Y2) - and after this shoddy display it's starting to look like it won't happen. Bummer.

Very underwhelming announcement.

I have no interest in this game, to me the Pokemon series evolves at an excessive slow rate and remakes only help with this. To me Pokemon Red and Blue was where the series peaked and it was never able to evolve past the formula established by those games.

You're hella funny

If you mean the games that they announced today neither have you. My understanding is that a remake doesn't bode well for someone who expects the series to be more ambitious.

And again I didn't say it didn't evolve, I said it didn't evolve past the original formula.

What you're saying here just plain doesn't make sense, Freeman. I'm gonna need to know exactly what you would consider an evolution, and I'd like to know just how much you know about Pokemon's formula and its underlying mechanics.

They always use the recent engine for remakes.

Again, think of that post. That's like saying "Mario didn't evolve past the original formula because all games involve him jumping onto enemies and beneath bricks" or "fighting games didn't evolve past the original formula of hitting each other"

I made it up to Brawly back in the day and since then I hadn't played Pokemon games, until I got Pokemon Y, so I'm ready to revisit this game and complete it.

As long as the framerate stays above 30fps at all times, even with 3D activated, I'll take that over anything else (like full game in 3DS but with a 20fps average).

I know this is Game Freak we're talking about, but come on. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is 60 fps 3D. We can't even get 30 FPS 3D out of this?

I do honestly hope they make the water traversal a little less annoying (i.e. lower the damn encounter rate), but fuuuuuuck.

Streetpass Secret Bases.

Fuck yeah.

Mario did evolve past the initial formula many times, but I will not insist with what I said even tho I stand by it. I just hope that whomever is satisfied with the rate of change in Pokemon does not complain about other games that do the same.

I'm confused that they revealed it now instead of at e3.

I guess this also means versions 3 of a generation now no longer exists, so I feel safer buying them day one.

This is certainly a surprise. I hope that Gamefreak has improved their engine enough to maintain an acceptable 30fps in 3D for battles.

Yeah I just kind of assumed he hasn't even been playing the games.
