Nintendo Fiscal Meeting - Over

Maybe I'm not understanding it, but it still sounds like the NFC figures are basically memory cards, but probably with added features.

"Is like I never watched a Skylanders or another toy commercial"

I guess I don't understand what the point of the figuring is, then? If all the data resides on the same Wii U, it should just be able to read from itself, not need to transfer to a toy. Game A, B, and C are all shown on the Wii U, and unless those are three different Wii U's, I'm not understanding the selling point

Toys, man, toys! Figurines! Zelda in a skimpy bikini bent over!

Right, but how is that different than my old ps1 memory card that also had my personal saves from multiple games?

So basically, as Nintendo fans and consumers, we should cheer on Nintendo languishing with dated, ill-conceived hardware because that's what they initially went with? They made a bad choice, and rather than fix that choice, they should keep motoring on with it for at least half a decade to make a small buyer base happy?

Do people get angry at Nintendo still for not sticking out the Virtual Boy for at least 5 years?

worked for Sony didn't it? they need to ride the Wii U out, learn, and then not fuck up this bad next time

Considering it takes Nintendo 2 to 3 years to implement anything, and initial implementation is usually very poor, I'm not excited by the NFC figures or their mysterious QoL platform.

It worked for Sony because they had a lot more than Sony software to rely on. Wii U is dead. As a long time Nintendo fan I wont be buy another Nintendo console at launch again.

That is essentially a re-cap of everything he just finished talking about.

Yep, but i am not sure everyone will get it in total. He mentioned again the move to the new building at E3, he mentioned not to think too narrow of Nintendo. Je mentioned (in january) that health will just be the start. Smart devices are just one way of distributing those new endevours. Basically he said that Nintendo has a whole new department for just random new ideas to generate money (still somewhat related to games of course).

"Fixing it" wouldn't fix anything, though. And that is the problem. You kill the WiiU now, you kill all future consoles.
And the Virtual Boy isn't even close to the same thing. It was not their main system. It was a quickly and incompletely done side project they toyed with.
It feels like some people really want Nintendo to be SEGA.

About a year ago I (and many others) were wondering what drastic thing Iwata might do to avoid 2014, 2015 and 2016 being really bad to mediocre years for Nintendo, which would run him up to perhaps 5 years of losses in a row, or three years of losses and 2 of negligible profits.

This makes it sound like he's resigned to that. People who bet on 'they'll just stay the course, however rocky' - congrats! You win.

Easy. Compare all their output (pls not just Mario & Zelda) with other first party efforts. They shit out a lot of software. Problem is that it´s not enough if you have to do it alone.

Then we're not really arguing. I'm not sure why you're acting like we are. You've put a lot of words in my mouth.

Iwata - need something special for emerging markets to reach mass market, not about localising existing products which have higher price

"we still think we can sell 100 million consoles again like we did with the wii, we are going to keep pushing gimmicks until one works"

Hmm. This NFC pedestal looks quite different from the 3DS and Wii U from a design standpoint. I wonder if this is a hint towards the kind of industrial design we'll see with their future platforms.

Right, but how is that different than my old ps1 memory card that also had my personal saves from multiple games?

There will be a game unveiled at E3 primarily utilizing NFC figurines. In addition, the NFC figurines can be used for saved-data for other related titles such as NSMBU.

How is the above related to old PS1 memory cards lol?

Iwata - for emerging markets $30-60 game prices are difficult. Need something new but won't be this fiscal year, studying China changes

Sounds like Free to play games for me.

"we still think we can sell 100 million consoles again like we did with the wii, we are going to keep pushing gimmicks until one works"

No, that's not what he's talking about here. He's saying that emerging markets like China are not going to be responsive to the consoles that currently exist, because they're already in the markets there at varying prices.

They have to come in with cheaper/different hardware/software than what they currently have.

"we still think we can sell 100 million consoles again like we did with the wii, we are going to keep pushing gimmicks until one works"

Huh? He's talking about making products specifically for places like China and Brazil and Korea.
What are you on about?

I think half my confusion with NFC is that I don't actually know what skylanders and disney infinity actually play like, or what the figures do.

Except the WiiU isn't outright broken the way the Virtual Boy was. Nintendo's own games have done just fine on the platform. The system is out of sync with the rest of the industry's move towards next-gen, absolutely, and it's obvious that third parties are done. But as far as Nintendo themselves go, it hasn't prevented them yet from making quality software. They're going to keep doing that.

QoL a 2017 release. Hahahaha go home Iwata you're drunk. Seriously though, no more Nintendo profits, no more just one game boasting, the plan for Wii U for the rest of 2014 is two games - he's fired, right?

In this thread, we don't understand how businesses work.

Nintendo does not have forward momentum coming out of last fiscal due to a very challanging generational transition mostly due to a failed strategy set likely five years ago, but there is a big difference between short term profits, midterm goals, and long term strategy.

The Virtual Boy was not a main generation console.
