Nintendo blocks speedruns at RTA Japan over licenses...at a charity event

if Nintendo were to do this to GDQ I think that would be the tipping point where major, non-gaming news outlets started running headlines like "Nintendo block charity event for cancer"....and that would be some BAD PRESS
It sounds to me that all events should start to include a charity component, no matter how small, because...

Hopefully they block the trannies and the crystal skull at the next games done quick thing

Not the reason since there's other speedrun events that has it
Yeah but that may only be the beginning, their true unrealistic intent being to prevent any speedrun that breaks their games. I'm not saying it this tha but seeing how they fight against fangames and mods, that would align well with their will to 100% control how they want you to play their games.

Nintendo is doing everything they possibly can to be the most hated company in the world.

Insane legal practices.
Insane pricing of consoles and games.
Ending all rewards programs,
Bricking consoles.

It's starting to become a moral issue for me to buy Switch 1 games. Like, I want to play FF Tactics Remaster on the go but don't want to give Nintendo money by buying a copy.

Fans, mods and a lot of stuff are old fight. But the pattern is that basically everything that they went for was a new release that turned popular. Emulation, Nintendo was against since early 90s; fan games or mods, Nintendo was against also since the early 90s; etc

Speedruns existed since the early internet days, and glitching was just another pilar of it. Blocking this now doesn't make sense. I have no idea the real purpose from them, but is fair to say that different country= different culture, and maybe this can interfere in some way. I mean, Awesome Games Done Quick was amazing and turned into shit because of wokism, and this was some US cultural bullshit. There's the european one, and is boring as hell, but it's mostly because they just do the speedrun and don't have a single point of charisma. Also, there's smaller ones from all around the world that are hit and miss...

I agree with you that *they want you to think what they want you to think*, but not speedruns per se. The place, people or whatever, I can see

It is just a port of the mobile FFT release with a few extra features and some content cut.

I really wish speedrunners and any kind of organized gaming competitions would outright ban all Nintendo games.

Showcase everyone else's games instead.

It's the competitive Smash Bros communities fault.

Nintendo won't allow anything these days because being lame isn't as bad as being associated with rapists or worse.

Games done quick has turned to sheit years ago.

I hope they censor the fuck out of it.
The staff have been self destructing it for years.

Also having my mascot being shown at an event with mentally ill gender fluid unicorn furry fuckers would not count for good publicity.

Cheers Applause GIF

1. Who plays games on a phone
2. This is old and fake news, the game was rebuilt from the ground up, new lighting, new dialogue, new gameplay adjustments and features, voice acting, etc
3. The content that was cut was lame anyway

Maybe Nintendo want people to, you know, buy and play their games instead of watching other people play them.

I'm half serious here. Maybe they really think this, because there's literally no valid reason to do this, and I think they don't even have some solid legal ground to.

1. I am pretty sure more people play games on a phone than any gaming console/handheld nowadays.

2. Built on assets from the relatively recent mobile rerelease.

3. Highly subjective.

I'm sure there is a "hidden" contest for these corps where they are trying to be the worst among all and laugh at how much they can get away with
all the gaming companies meet around a Dr. Evil style table and plot more and more insane shit to see if they can get away with it apparently
