Sunset Overdrive Gameplay Footage [Up: Official Trailer released!]

Naaah, the animations in Infamous were floaty, but they didn't pop out like what I'm seeing in this trailer.

They got time to fix it...

Especially that wall running. *barf*

I agree they aren't all great, but the basic jumping and hanging stuff looks less rigid than Second Son, which is maybe catering to my personal taste more than I realize.

As for the wall-running specifically, it could definitely be improved, but I see wall traversal as one of SS's big animation weakspots as well. You just float up the geometry, no sense of connection to the world, and the animations (or lack thereof) definitely contribute to that feeling.

[Hype levels rising]

[Need to drink overcharge]

[someone hold me]

If 900p is what we get with the Xbox One generation, that will be perfectly fine with me. PvsZ:GW and Ryse look incredible to me (although I'm sure some of you would say I'm wrong).
Your not wrong lol

I think it looks like an Infamous Wannabe
The sad part is that the Infamous caracter has 120,000 polygons and this one only have 40,000 polygons.
Cool story brah

Dang. I really like the colorful stuff.

Reminds me of Jet Set Radio. Forgot this game was a platform exclusive, maybe I will have to get a Xbox One at some point.

I love the visual style but am I the only one who thinks it looks a bit last-gen? The colors seem to mask the muddy textures & lack of detail. Probably won't matter too much given the speed of the gameplay though.

Oh well, the gameplay looks like a lot of fun so far so I'll keep it on my radar for now.

Nah I feel it too. Hard to tell from a low-res video, but it didn't blow me away. Coming from a long time supporter of Insomniac, they have just been on a downward trend the last generation. I've learned not to expect great things from them anymore. I definitely get a dead rising meets ratchet meets jet set vibe from it though. Looking forward to seeing some higher res stuff from e3.

Looks bright and colorful. I like the traversal system, looks fun. The only time I got bored was when I saw shooting shoot combat. Bang bang doesn't do much for me anymore as a gameplay mechanic. Though we only saw small snippets.

Why does everybody bite the bait?

Looks more fun and interesting than any of the Ratchet and Clanks IMO. Sony should be kicking themselves after seeing that gameplay footage.

I am sure Sony tried to sign them several times but they wanted to stay independent. At the end, they moved away from Sony to do multiplatform development (didn't work out that well) and have the right to own their IPs.

Game looks good but with the gameplay looking like its pretty close to inFamous, I don't think Sony is that upset over missing this title as an exclusive.

Seriously? In what way? It looks gorgeous and fluid to me

Probably in that it doesn't scream next-gen.

It looks good and colorful, but these are pretty low-poly models due to the type of look they're going for. He probably meant that this game could've been achieved on last-gen consoles.

Being sub-HD and most likely 30FPS, it shouldn't have those weird baked-shadow pop-in bugs and aliasing issues.

The game looks quite good. Not sure how I feel about integral the linking of combos is.
I'm guessing it's 30FPS since Insomniac pussied out of what they believe in because sales data didn't back them up? I lost all respect for them since then: http://www.insomniacgames.com/blogcast/blog/mike_acton/1503082

They only released shit since then anyway. They were my fave devs in PS2 age and early PS3. Loved their old ratchet games.
Is this your gimmick or something?

I love how colourful this game is, and I love how it looks like a comic book in motion. Right down to the big BOOM text in the explosions! It's overflowing with character and style.

Really?

Oh well. I guess I'm just lucky because all I see when I watch this game in motion is amazing-er-ness :)

EDIT - It's also sad that you obsess over polygon counts yet fail to spell 'Character' correctly.

Yes you are right. Sorry about my poor english.
I think the game looks awesome too, lot's of funny effects and explosions.

The only bad Insomniac game released in Gen 7 never looked good.

I dunno man, the last good game Insomniac made was in 2009.

IMO of course. Either way Sunset Overdrive looks much more like 2009 Insomniac and much less like FUSE Insomniac.

Looks fan flipping tastic. Can't wait to see more. Colourful/fun open world..hopefully there is a good enough story/premise to drag me through

Don't buy systems for a game, but this Halo 2Anni/ Forza Horizon 2/Quantam Break and whatever else they show at E3 has got me glancing at my wallet

First impression: Ratchet & Clank meets inFamous. Not a bad thing.

Graphically, not impressive at all compared to Second Son. Art style is cool though. Gameplay mechanics look a little stiff, especially that wall-running in the beginning. Hopefully, that can easily be fixed before release.

So overall, I'm interested. Mainly due to being a huge fan of R&C. Hopefully the characters and story are worthwhile too. The Ratchet & Clank games have some fantastic casts and plots, especially A Crack in Time.

Environment looks great, although the motions were a little herky jerky in the video... But I like the lighter atmosphere and much less serious tone. Also nice to see some fresh, bright colors.

The sad part is that the Infamous caracter has 120,000 polygons and this one only have 40,000 polygons.

oh no so sad :/ preorder canceled, preorder infamous 4 confirmed

Jesus man! I know you're obsessed with 60fps, but that doesn't mean that 30fps games are shit, certainly not insomniac games
Fuse doesn't exist

Well, try seeing from the other way. 30FPS may not be shit, but their 60FPS efforts were way more enjoyable and made the Ratchet series what it became. Because it was just so much fun playing them and it would've been less fun at 30FPS. Mike Acton even acknowledges that it's more fun, but they decided against it because reviewers didn't honor it and sales weren't better on average. They decided that it would be better to have better graphics than better playability although, as Acton states. "We’ve long viewed a solid framerate as both a sign of a quality product and professionalism as developers. It’s always been point of pride in our work and considered an extremely serious part of our development process."

Think about that what you want, but Insomniac is out of touch for years now for what made them once big. They became a simple me too developer. While Sunset looks like something new and fresh, it's worth nothing if they don't set their priorities straight and that is: Playability over EVERYTHING. Especially for such a highscore driven game.

By the way, any news on how this game is using the cloud? Last I was aware it was a necessary thing to run this game, I am guessing due to the player chooses the directon of the game after launch part but any specific details?

The XO needed a game like this: vibrant, crazy, beautiful, fresh, wacky...it just LOOKS like a game that you HAVE to pick up and play, and almost impossible to look away

This generation is heating up!
