Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I agree, I dunno I feel like having to deal with that random element is a skill on its own.

But then it's not a case of the same guys winning over and over.

Items can entirely change the course of battle, so virtually everybody has a chance of success.

Losing? Use an AT. Use an item.

It keeps it fresh.

Not sure why, but something tells me (gut feeling) that the last WTF unlockable character for smash that Sakurai could surprise us with wouldn't be Pac-man but...

Considering he would be someone no one would've thought of. Plus he's been a trophy in a smash game before and the last character we got was ROB for Brawl. He's also part of Nintendo's history.

The very fact that you have mentioned it now guarantees that it will never happen!

it would be interesting if they managed to reach to 100 items, however I'm concerned about balance of items during battles. Would specific items become frequently to appear during battles, awhile our favorite items would rarely appeared. I hope that every items would have equally percent to appear in battles.

I don't think there's as much of a concern with balance when it comes to the items. Sakurai seems aware enough to know that items are for casual play, no items are for serious play.

It'd be great to be able to alter individual item-by-item appearance rarity. Won't happen, but would be cool.

I meant balance for items' drop rates. Since we are getting 100 items, so would they spread it out with the items' drop ratios.

Since you brought up about items being balance in battles; I think Sakurai would keep it in his mind to make sure that items would work very well, and not being broken. Sakurai wouldn't catering to hardcore only; so I would imagine that he would catering to both hardcore and casuals.

It also can allow crazy thing to happen.

Like someone landing on a box then someone hitting than box , the box rolls of the stage before they get to jump off and they die

But there already is balance in play with item drop rates. Normal hammers appear far more often than golden hammers, etc. Surely they'll continue that trend.

I apologized for misunderstanding. That's not what I meant. Let me share my example that might help me to get my point across better. Hopefully.

Imagine this, If we got 100 items. I'm concerned that we might only see like 25-30 items during battles because there could be a ratio that few items would appear more frequently than other items

Example: During one of the match, we would kept seeing smoke balls, timer and mushroom appeared so frequently that could overwrite other items' chance to popped up. Golden Hammer, Master Ball and other items should stay rare if they are better version of existing items.

Sometime I would heard people complaining about Pokeball Pokemons' pop ratios are unbalanced.

master ball 100%
everything else 0%

event match 37 lives
Honestly, that's how I plan to play the big majority of my item matches, maybe with assist trophies on sometimes too. Pokeball with a good result has always been the bestest item, and now it's guaranteed to be cool.

I love playing pokeball only matches in Melee since they had unlimited pokeballs at once, rather than Brawl's 3 poke balls at once. Also almost all of pokemon had very useful moves.

Yes! Me too. The chaos is so good.

I forgot about that limit though... I hope they don't do that again. I don't care if the game crawls to 8 FPS, just let things get ridiculous.

I'd actually be surprised if the master ball ends up with its own item switch toggle, it seems like it's just a "rare" variation of the normal Pokeball.

Here's hoping, though.

Golden hammer works differently from the regular hammer, though. Master Ball seems more in line with the Squeaky Hammer - an alternate form of the item that you have no control over.

Squeaky hammer has the same design as the regular golden hammer. If master balls were supposed to be just an alternate form of the pokeballs, why bother creating a new design? They could be like they were before, a pokeball with a legendary pokemon.

Because they were so disappointing in Brawl that it trained us all to avoid picking them up at all :P That's the main reason why I'm hopeful, but it doesn't seem terribly likely to me for weird reasons.

Plus it adds a gameplay incentive - giving the master ball a unique design make it so that instead of just casually tossing it like any other item and hoping for the best, you'd actively be seeking it out and fighting over it - kind of like the Smash Ball.

Wonder if project M/brawl mods can remove the pokeball/assist trophy limitations. I'd live chaos again, even at the cost of slowdown.

Get point, that thought had never crossed my mind. I always thought that was the entire point of making the Masterball a separate item - so we could have a little more control there in item switch.

What do you guys think will happen with pokeballs now? Will they always be normal pokemon, or random among everything, including legendaries?

In a perfect world that catered to my desires, Smash would have a warp staff item that could summon in various random Fire Emblem characters, much like how pokeballs work.

Pretty sure it's been shown that you can still get legendaries from regular pokeballs in the direct.

Imagine if any of the characters warped in would do their flashiest crit. Hector would be fucking hype as shit.

The only legendary you can see for certain coming out of a Pokeball is Meloetta, the rest of them have the ball cropped out of the shot or not showing up at all.

Could just be that they hadn't implemented all the art in the build they shot the Pokemon footage with. Diddy's health meter later in the direct has his Brawl artwork still.

Alternatively, Meloetta just isn't interesting enough to be in the Master Ball since all it seems to do is fire a bouncing projectile.

Palkia comes out of a regular pokeball during the '60fps/30fps segment'

So it does. He didn't reveal the Master Ball until later in the direct though, and we only saw it on the Wii U version.

We'll see.

Yup. Could very well be because it wasn't revealed yet, or that it was old footage. The 'hadn't been revealed yet' thing might not apply because olimar's winged pikmin show up before it's officially revealed for him.

If I had to guess, it's that ANY pokemon can come out of a pokeball, but only legendary pokemon come out of the master ball. If that's the case, signs point to master balls being a separate item.

Hard to tell, though.

Smash should be as customizable as possible. I should be able to choose what pokemon can come out of a pokeball/masterball. Whats the problem if i want to play an masterball only ARCEUS ONLY battle with 3 arceus (or more!!) on the stage at the same time with all of them meteor smashing everyone to their death!? :P
