Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

I have to say that is no way to announce a game. I understand they were desperate to counter bad news from the financial report but still. At least give some gameplay. Beyond that I'm still having hard time getting hyped. X/Y not quite living to my personal expectations might have something to do with it. It just isn't such a good experience if you're tightly single player focused gamer. Beyond that I find it rather baffling that they aren't going to get full 3D for this game either. If Smash manages it at 60FPS with the graphics it has shown then there should be no excuse. Although with almost 15 million units of X/Y sold maybe people just don't care all that much. With Sapphire and Ruby I would have maybe wanted to see a new story in Hoenn (maybe kind of like what Kanto was in G/S/C but expanded). In any case this will be on my radar.

On a side note it's always cheering to see how eagerly the Pokémon fanbase welcomes these games.

We've anticipated this since Fire Red and Leaf Green!!

Physical/Special split Hoenn!!!

My man.

What is wrong with you people?

Torterra is pretty chill though to be fair. Infernape and especially Empoleon are the worst though.

Overall coolness of starters goes Gen 1 > Gen 4 > Gen 6 > Gen 2 > Gen 5 > Gen 3.

It is known, Khaleesi.

Mudkip/Marshtomp are so OP in the early part of the game. Wattson can't even get a stab hit on you. Plus I always choose the water starters.

If you pick up a Sabeleye (for the second gym), HM Slaves, and Rayquaza, you can basically just use Mudkip and it's evos and never grind. Luckily this won't be the case in these games, since Rayquaza probably won't be available pre-E4 like in Emerald.

Please bring back move tutors and what not. I want my pervious gen teams to be legal again and I wanna be able to give Celebi Earth Power and shit.

I need move tutors to help ease out my shitty MonoGrass Gym Leader movepool.

I'd want Blaziken in Smash, but I just think he'd play so similar to Captain Falcon, y'know?
No way. He'd be more like an opposite to Little Mac. Heavy kicker, quick runner, insane air attacks. SkyUppercut was designed to go after Flying Pokemon (as was Rockslide, its egg move). Powerful fire attacks too.

Blaziken can destroy most Pokemon; not the least of which is Lucario (Fighting/Steel) and Greninja (Water/Dark).

I find it frustrating and baffling that so many people complain that Nintendo is doing nothing interesting, worthwhile or original with the Wii U, and yet so many people are bouncing off the walls with excitement over Nintendo remaking the worst Pokemon game just a decade after its initial release.

This will be the first Pokemon RPG release I do not buy. Zero interest.

AW HELL NAW

CLEARLY, I've been too nice recently. Well that's over, the kiddy gloves are coming off! Time for people to get educated.

I think Blaziken would make an awesome fighter the only thing that may lower its chances is that we already have a fire and fighting type pokemon in the roster.

Pikachu and like all of its clones (Plusle, Minum, Pachirisu, Dedenne) and Helioptile can learn Grass Knot.

Joltik can learn Energy Ball.
There's also HP Grass for every single other Pokemon. Plenty of electric types run it fine in 1v1.

Although HP Ice has been more popular on them lately

XY is the first time I've jumped back onto pokemone since RBY. Question for the vets: how have previous remakes interacted with same-generation games? Can you trade back and forth between them? Do they typically introduce new pokemon, or just incorporate the latest additions into the old games? If you can trade freely, I'm wondering if AS/OR can fix Kalos' lack of move tutors or expand the list of pokemon eligible for official competition (Kalos dex only is a pain when you roll with Gastrodon).

In FRLG, you couldn't trade with RS until the postgame, HGSS changed that and allowed you to connect with DPPt as soon as the option was available. New Pokemon likely won't be added but there will probably be some new forms for the legendaries and new move tutors. (Move tutors ALWAYS get added in remakes and 3rd versions.)

Ruby was the first Pokemon game I got around the time of release as Gold and Silver came out while I was still too young so really looking forward to going back. Sunk so many hours into Ruby and Emerald over the years but haven't been back to them since my DS Lite broke a few years back. Torchic and Omega Ruby for me.

Infernape was pretty terrible in-game but at least ended up being the best of the lot competitively. Poor Torterra got the shaft with typing.
Whoa wait what. Infernape was one of the most powerful starters in the entire series, if not the most downright, in the main story. Sinnoh was built around being destroyed by Infernape. The amount of Pokemon that resisted his movepool, including gym leaders, was hilariously small compared to other starters, and I don't wanna start with the E4 (hint:
he can solo the whole thing at level 70
).

Just checked the Wikipedia page and found this in the Development section.

Speculation about remakes of Ruby and Sapphire had been going on for years, most notably seeing references to the games and their region, Hoenn, in the 2013 predecessors Pokémon X and Y.[5][6] In fact, "Hoenn Confirmed" had become a meme accompanying speculation.

Edit:

More like the best out of the three. Good speed and good offence is all you really need ingame.

Infernape was pretty terrible in-game
Uh, what.

It was hilariously easy to solo DPPt with an Infernape.

It's like Staraptor. Faster than anything, stronger than anything, defenses don't matter because Fire+Fighting kills everything in-game in one hit.

LOL

I fuckin' can't man.
Not like it'll be even close to as broken as mega blaziken though. Seriously, speed boost is already fantastic on Pokemon that were otherwise not very good like Scolipede. On something like Blaziken that actually has the attack and moveset to sweep effectively, it's not surprising that even without mega evolving Blaziken was banished to ubers. And Mega evolving makes it's sweeping potential even higher (Since you can stop giving it a plus speed nature and make it adamant instead)

I honestly kind of hope they pan the camera out a bit more for whatever top down sections they have. It kinda bugged me how close it seemed in X/Y.

What a terrible list. Gen 2 and 4 are the worst. They are incredibly underwhelming.
Gen 3> Gen 1> Gen 6>>>>>>>>> Gen 5> Gen 4 > Gen 2
I completely agree, though I do suffer from Kanto fatigue at the moment. I would probably move it down below Kalos.

I originally got Ruby and started with Treecko, do I'll probably do the same this time, though I am getting both version as usual

Swampert is also ludicrously powerful in-game. All three Hoenn starters are good, but Swampert just has the right type combination to solo most of the game up to Wallace.

Thanks. So if you can trade between them, then I guess you can also battle between them. I wonder if online functions, like Battle Spot, Wonder Trade and GTS will work between them? I'm wondering if it would be necessary or not to migrate my XY pokemon to AS/OR, which would be a pain since items like mega stones don't transfer into pokebank.

Speed Boost for Mega Swampert!

Swampert is good in game, but speed boost Blaziken kills everything ever. Which may or may not be relevant depending on whether you can mega evolve it before the elite four in these remakes since you're not going to start with a hidden ability

was I the only one who thought he was really awful and had a terrible leveling moveset?

I guess I just don't like monkeys

I hope the pokemon contests are expanded on. I barely remember how the system worked, but I do remember there were combos you could pull off with certain moves. Worked hard to get my colored sketch in that museum.

What? Like why is he steel? Why does he have tiny little nubby fingers? Why is he wearing a stupid triangle tie that's not really a tie and isn't anything at all? Why did they go for such an ugly, angular design? Why does he have lace growing out of his body? And the feet? The rest of his body is angular and iron-clad, then he just has normal feet that have a jarring mismatched color. Is he wearing a suit of armor then? Why does a Pokemon have clothes?

It's just so baffling and such a waste of potential.
