This looks fun but I hope there's some challenging gameplay and it's not just a zombie massacre.

I love how in Infamous you can still die quickly if you walk into a turret or are careless in battle. This makes it a lot more tactical and requires you to be evasive. You also face fewer enemies but they are a lot harder to kill.

The traversal looks odd.

This wall-running thing is going to be the cover-shooting of this generation, isn't it?

Where is Devil's Third

If it's anything like the old ratchet games, the gameplay and variety is going to be great. I may have a lot of issues with Insomniac but their weapons are always fun.

I dont think he means it exactly the same but there are weapons in other games that works the same way. Just for example the monkey bomb shooting crossbow in CoD that attracts zombies etc.

Which is my point. How many weapons do we get in games that don't "work the same way" as a gun we've already used in another game? You'll be hard pressed to find an idea that hasn't already been used...the trick is to innovate and deliver in a different way.

The gun they showed that shoots helicopters with handguns attached could be said to be nothing but turrets.
The roman candle gun....grenade launcher.

Just saying that argument isn't sound. Make the ideas fun, aesthetics different. But to say what we saw is basic with different skins is disingenuous.

Really I found InFamous SS very easy.

It isn't a sound or even mediocre argument AGAINST a game. We can deduce everything we play down to the "it's just this with a different this" argument. I'd love to see the people who make this observation come up with an idea/weapon that can't be related to anything we've ever seen before.

I don't think people are that bothered to actually accept your challenge (I'm not). I'm very sorry I talked to you. Carry on.

Could be a fun game but lets not pretend its something revolutionary. It looks like a variation on the Ratchet & Clank game IMO.

Yep.
Couldn't help but shake the feeling that I've already played this game several times before. Weapons from R&C. Over the top gore from Bulletstorm. Mobility and powers from inFamous. Mutant zerg from DeadRising.

It's very pretty but I see little that makes me want to buy it immediately.

Second Son is the only thing on PS4 right now that I would really like to play, but now I just don't care. This blows it away in terms of overall appeal for me.

I agree. Personally, I don't understand the large appeal over SS. It's not open world like GTA, and the gameplay looks like it'd get boring after an hour.

Fuse was about as bland and generic as it gets. This is loud, vibrant and dripping with both style and fun gameplay. In other words, it is the complete opposite.
I'm going to assume you've played it to make that statement? I stand by what i said, this game will go the way of Fuse.

It looks great! Much better than the CGI trailer that didnt made me interested of the game at all.

But one thing i didnt like was the enemies. I only saw two enemy types, the regular zombie and just one part a giant zombie (or whatever enemy type it is). Lets hope there are more varieties to the enemies!

It gets boring indeed. The main appeal of the game is getting the different powers and playing around with them IMO. Once you do that you realize you are doing the same 3 mission types over and over. Still worth playing tho.

I am not sure how I feel about it, the colours are great, the weapons look creative and fun, but the gameplay itself seems a little weird and plodding.

Edit: Glad to see I am not the only person in this thread that thinks it looks slow.

it looks slower than it actually plays.

when you're sitting back and taking it all in, it may seem slower, but when you're playing, recognizing where enemies are, where you are traversing too, thinking about which enemies are the biggest threat and which weapon you should be using, all while trying to aim, fire, and line up your next movement, the speed feels pretty good.

Still tweaking / balancing controls and all of that, but I think it's one of those games that looks slower than it plays.

That statement wasn't even close to a challenge. If I'd posted something like....I bet the people who make this argument can't come up with a idea/weapon we've seen before--I could see that as a challenge. I know it's not something that's going to be answered.

As for the rest of your comment...ugh. Have no idea why you're sorry you talked to me....

His/her statement holds as much water as yours....have you played it to assume it'll go the way of Fuse? Both are opinions based off the first gameplay we've seen.

Meh. I get the appeal, but this kind of thing never delivers. I'll give it a chance if it's well received.

The use of color during some of these fights, *swoon*. One of the first games I'm getting when I get an XBO for sure, looks insane.

What "kind of thing"? 'Cause I'm pretty sure things kind of like this have delivered in the past :P

I think he means sales-wise it's going to go the way of FUSE, since you wouldn't need to play it to make a prediction on that score. Although that comment of his seems to be the defense of some marketing analyst rather than gamer. Like, other than Insomniac employees, who cares if it does better or worse than FUSE? How about if it PLAYS better? 'Cause it certainly looks better.

I don't see the problem with the speed at all, but I played a lot of JSRF which seems to have the same kind of floaty feeling as this game.

BTW, I just saw this article:

Is this part true?

Of course, we have to wait a while. The Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive isn't due out until the second half of this year (North American spring, AU/NZ autumn), and the team at Insomniac still have plenty of work to do to get it ready. The HUD is being completely redesigned - rumour has it Microsoft gave the studio an award for the most terrible health meter of all time - but if what we've seen so far is any indication, we're in for a punk rock treat by the end of the year.

If so, that's pretty funny. :)

It looks fantastic!!! Holy hell does it look SLOW though.

I thought it was going to be adrenline-fueled thrill ride, everything looks like molasses, and the traversal looks rigid.

I'm not sure, his original statement was pretty vague to be honest and could mean either. Although I disagree that it'll be as big as a flop as Fuse considering it has MS' marketing budget behind it.

It does look really cool though.

Looks stunning, super colorful, just what I want, not entirely sold on the gameplay yet so need to see more of it. Hope MS has a steady stream of diverse and colorful games coming up, I want to buy an Xbone but not just for 1 game.

This game went from being on my radar to day 1 purchase. I hope it doesn't get delayed so I can play it this year. The colors! So many colors!

looks like the first decent game that insomniac is going to be putting out that is not ratchet and clank. I played every resistance game but they are certainly under the bar. especially when you have killzone nearby. cant help but think of chimera when I see the monsters from sunset overdrive

Well Titanfall had like an infinity marketing dollars behind it and relative to those dollars did not set the world on fire, so if you imagine Sunset Overdrive is going to get so much less than that, and that it's limited by a system early userbase, it is possible it sells FUSE numbers.

But I don't really care about that. Because when I see the video, I see a fucking fun game that is exactly what XBO needs to diversify itself and make it appealing. And diversification is its own kind of killer app, it's part of why I always push indies so hard. It just seems that guy needed to say it because people are excited about Sunset Overdrive. like unless he tells everyone how much FUSE sucks so they keep contextualizing it next to SO, he won't be happy.

art direction doesn't look like it would appeal to many people. Surprised that people are really excited.

Because it does appeal to many other people, and many of those people post on NeoGAF?

yes, it's so true. the UI the press saw is pretty bad in a couple ways (health being one of them!) so we aren't showing it until E3.

there's been lots of polish things since the build all these videos are based from

Sold me an Xbox One. My god.

don-mattrick-clapping-o.gif

looks like console game of the year at the moment. the rest of MS conference and Sony gotta step up this E3.

all this wall running now. it was so good in titanfall (and brink before that) and I'm glad its being adopted in a bunch of other shooters.

itagaki needs to give us devils third now before he looks obsolete

LOL. Good stuff. I hope you can show off screens of it someday. :)

Eh I don't think it'll do that bad I mean dead rising managed to do quite well and this game will obviously be marketed by MS, if for little else than the fact it's an exclusive with a positive reception.

Bright cartoony characters doesn't appeal to many people except younger kids. I am not saying this subjectively this is a fact. This game won't hit npd and I was really surprised that many people are excited.

You mean a little like Titanfall? The fact that MS-only-people's first experience with Insomniac was Fuse doesn't help things. I really hope this game is good for Insomniac though.
