Sony's E3 2014 - What are we all expecting?

For it's time it was the best looking console game. Texture detail, colour palette, lighting ect all top of it's class. The only other game that came close was Gears.

Uncharted 2 was far and away the best looking game of it's time. In fact only the God of War games looked better than the Uncharted series for my money.

I really disagree. Gears looked way better than Uncharted. 360 had many better looking games at that point since it was easy to exploit.

It will be replaced by the new Ass creed game...I don't know what Sony sees in those ubisoft titles.

Sony has to keep those third-party relations in good order I suppose, lest they end up like Nintendo.

I really don't want to see Ubisoft pop in and say hello during Sony's conference though. I know it serves a role for them to do so, but their games are so snore-inducing for the most part. As an exception, I'm excited for Watch Dogs right now, but even seeing a trailer for that game rear its head a third time or so at a Sony event was tedium incarnate.

We'll probably see 7+ minutes devoted to the new Assassin's Creed, nothing from Gravity Rush 2, and I'll cry into my bowl of corn flakes as a result.

Can't wait for the PS5 re-reveal then.

but seriously developement seemed to go pretty good since last year, i can't see why would they want to skip this year :/

I don't think they'll skip E3. Maybe they'll just release a trailer independently in their own booths (and online) rather than with Sony or MS - which might explain why Kagari's heard nothing so far.

Really? I always imagined MS may snap up the game for their show this year, or at the least it would return with a trailer at Sony's Conference again. Didn't Square mention they would be sharing more info on the game soon? This was a month or two ago now. Assumed they meant E3.

SE seems to be promoting their Japanese games with Sony and western with MS for the future.

And I don't doubt AssCreed to be there. I mean, yes that franchise needs a rest but it still sells for some reason.

The next Assassin's Creed is being built specifically for current gen consoles, so i'm very interested in seeing the gameplay. I don't think it'd be a negative thing if it popped up at Sony's conference. It's currently one of the biggest franchises in gaming.

We know Destiny is a lock since Activision confirmed it in their conference call a few days ago

“We look forward to showing you more at E3 with our great partner, Sony ,” Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said during a call with investors.

But that's not really a surprise. Destiny is obviously a big deal for Sony and Activision.

bu-bu-but live reactions during the conference were the best part about the game being there!
Well i guess even an independent trailer is better than nothing.

wait what? How do you know the development was going well?

they showed the game running on high spec PC and we don't know if any of what they showed will be even possible on PS4 or Xbone. We have to see the game running on those systems!

I really hope you're wrong Kagari… Unless they plan on waiting until TGS, otherwise the game is even further off than I'd imagined (I assumed late 2015 was a probable release plan).

MS could do the whole 'me too' thing like they did with FFXIII, and like they did with MGSV (last year?) to emphasis the Xbox One is a viable platform for Japanese software.

It's not up to MS.
FF13 was more of SE desperate to win over that western audience on Xbox.

The problem there is that, for the most part, gameplay has barely changed across the industry despite better hardware - everything just looks prettier. And Ubisoft of all developers, aren't exactly one for innovation with their sequels. I can probably guess exactly how the next AC will look/play already.

Yeah, I can never understand why Sony even bothers to spend so much of their valuable presentation time on demonstrations of third party games.

Yeah I know it's to keep third party relations intact, especially if there's deals going on, but really Sony really should be focusing on the exclusive stuff instead. A lot of the times, the major third parties have their own conferences and pretty much show the same game again.

Because the majority of people buy third party games. They buy systems for multiplatform third party games.

Sony is in an interesting position once again because they are the market leader and as such every third party is knocking down their door looking to get some time on stage.

What to show and what not to show? That has gotta suck!

If Sony are clever they'd choose third party stuff that fills in the gaps (in terms of genre) that their first party trailers/stage demos have. This is their first big post-launch E3, the main aim here is to show that the hardware has every kind of software available to make it a worthwhile purchase.

That's a good point I suppose. Despite what the hardcore thinks, the mainstream is still the majority.

I think they should keep third party showings to a minimal, because MS will bring their A game and a price drop to boot. Sony needs to show those killer first party games with awesome graphics.

I like pretty graphics, and if that trailer is anything to go by it's going to be one of the best looking games. Of course it's UBI which means that it's a good possibility that it was faked in some way.

In the end, UBI is a longtime partner of Sony. They're going to support each other quite a bit.

Fair enough, but let me put it this way, in the 8 minutes or so that Ubisoft shows off their version of pretty, with a samey AC gameplay demo, we could have two new Sony I.P reveal trailers, with Sony's version of pretty. Moreover, Sony's software actually has the potential to bring in new kinds of experiences to show off the new hardware (M.M, or QD, for example) I know which I'd rather have ;p

I really hope they'll show more on Rime. A 2014 release would be very nice too.

It's not coming out this year. Sony pretty much confirmed that with the list of PS4 2014 games that appeared on their blog a couple or so months ago.

Would love to see more Rime at E3 though. It could happen. Was probably the most well-received game shown at their Gamescom conference.

Uncharted 4
The Last of Us
The Order 1886
Driveclub
Destiny
Final Fantasy 15
The Last Guardian
Guerillia Games new IP

It is one of their most intriguing looking titles alongside The Witness. Beautiful art and the Princess Mononoke influence is exciting.
I think that release list was just for games confirmed for 2014. They may still announce secret titles for launch later this year, alongside games that were TBC.

I'm hoping this game is finished and released later this year but who knows. It's gone dark since last Summer.

Would Far Cry 4 be worth Sony's time?

Maybe they demo it at Ubi and just have a trailer + exclusive DLC at MS or Sony because every game needs exclusive DLC these days

I don't expect Sony to push any of their software to fit in third party stuff. And Sony is known for not only starting late but running well over the time amount of time that the conference was supposed to last. So, if they have to then they'll find a way to fit in everything. Like I said, AC is one of the the biggest brands in gaming and you just don't turn down chances to associate a brand like that with your console.

Destiny and Unity seem to be the two third party games that'll definitely be there. I think Arkham Knight is another strong possibility. Aside from those i'm hoping that the other third party games are unannounced titles. And i'm hoping that a few of them are Japanese.

Sorry, I should have added in my post...

"Sony pretty much confirmed that with Rime's omission from the list of PS4 2014 games that appeared on their blog a couple or so months ago."

Referring to this list specifically... http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/03/26/ps4-games-in-2014-the-ultimate-list/

If Sony had plans to release Rime this year, it would've appeared somewhere on that blog. Same with Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. They're clearly lined up to be 2015 titles.
