Well, if "omg colours" is your main reason to get excited, you will love both games equally ;)

Thankfully, it also looks like a complete blast, with crazy gameplay variety in a zany open world. That, on top of a slick and incredibly vibrant art style? Sounds good to me.

as a owner of all the current systems its funny to see but also sad, embrace all games and systems

From some of the comments not just in this thread but others in the last few months, you get the feeling a lot of people can only just about afford the new console they have by scrapping together their pennies or in some cases their parents pennies, that imo feeds the constant need to absolutely shit on or seriously downplay other systems and their games.
 
Looks pretty terrible to me. But I've never enjoyed an Insomniac game, so clearly they're just not my cup of tea.

I will say that it's great that Xbox is getting a bright, colourful exclusive for once.

Please remove/edit that blurry, grey "dashing contrail line" behind the player character. It looks absolutely terrible and immersion-breaking. Is the player character constantly shitting his soul out from his spine? I don't want to see that massive fart behind my player whenever I move around. A simple slight blurring of the air behind the character's back will suffice to denote speed, not that stupid-long straight contrail.

See that horrifying bullshit behind the player? Would you kindly remove/edit that please, thanks:

The Jet Grind influence I see especially in the wall running (and wire grinding), particularly when the player reaches a corner/edge of one side of a building/wall and automatically continues running along the other side. I think in Jet Grind though you are continuously losing momentum (sliding downward) where as in this game it looks like you can endlessly wall run without losing momentum (could be wrong though just from the trailer). If I had to be one of those guys and nitpick the visuals/animations, I feel like the trail that follows behind the character looks weird/out of place. I can't quite describe how it looks/feels, but it doesn't look right to me, hah!

But yeah, game looks super nice aesthetically. It's blue sky-central! Some of the enemy types they've shown look pretty standard issue though. They're promising a nice variety, but right now it's got that post-Left4Dead bestiary from the looks of things (brute guy, ranged guy, fast grunts, etc.). At least the game looks like it's fun to control/play. Only thing I hope the game has is some nice actual inclosed platforming areas. Also, I'm hoping there's gadget-like items/abilities that allow certain areas of the city to open up as you play for backtracking purposes (like in Ratchet games). Open world gaming like this bores me after while and mission variety is what you've got to look forward to and how all that space/openness gels.

Oh, and that box art is sooooo good, like, Comix Zone Genesis-era shit.

I wasn't interested in this at the reveal last year, but this video of gameplay. It's very very impressive. I want to try out that record/LP gun.

I am perfectly okay with a game that's a hybrid of three of my favorite franchises. :)

Neat. The traversal perks system was what perked up my ears the most. Most third person action games often have very basic patterns that you can fall into, simply because they are the easiest and most optimal ways to defeat enemies. Usually some basic attack pattern or more commonly ducking in an out of cover to carefully peck away at enemies. But by having perks that trigger as you move around the environment (at least that was how it sounded to me) you have an actual gameplay reason to get as active with movement as possible. Seem like a smart but simple concept. Kinda Ratchet and Clank + Tony Hawk.

Yeah it's unfortunate that people feel the need to bring their console warz crap into threads like these. God forbid we be able to get hyped over a great looking game or actually get to talk about it with out high sodium content posts, and drive by trolling.

The thing is: even if you own only one console you can still be rational not to trash the "competition".

This is a REALLY great looking game. I've never been excited for a game like this for so long. Thank you, Insomniac.

That Fizzie boss battle? Yeah. I need to play that. The graphics are OUTSTANDING as is the art direction. And the gameplay!

I will get one but only after a price reduction + Kinect cut. I just feel really shitty about the X1 still, can't help my feelings bro!

Maybe the current Driveclub controversy will help you realize that all big companies will try to gauge how far they can push things from time to time. The important part is it didn't happen (although I actually wish it did, but that's me), and you don't have punish yourself for it. Support good games and people making them, they matter the most.

But waiting for a price cut is wise, it's bound to happen soon. I doubt Kinect is going anywhere, though.

I think that line is a visual representation of high style points, so I doubt it'll be there at all times (I could be wrong).

Yeah, I kind of glossed over the trailer last year and this was not really even on my radar. But today it really blindsided me with the actual gameplay, and that rarely ever happens. It's usually the other way around.
 
Exclusivity brings out the worse in people. The need for some to defend their favorite toy on GAF is both fascinating and sad at the same time.

It's not just GAF and it's not just exclusive to gaming. I like to liken this attitude to fanatical sports fans. "My team is better than your team!", "my hometown is better than yours!". Too many people invested in things you should take zero ownership with. Sadly, I personally feel like it's a mindset/attitude that a majority of people are guilty of (without even realizing it too, probably). I've been guilty of acting like this too at one time, but I'd like to say I've grown past that "phase". Some people just enjoy wearing shit on their sleeves, I guess.

Looks pretty lame to me. Traversal doesn't seem to have any feeling of momentum and the animations are poor. Plus it's just trying way too hard with the art style and "humor".

I think part of the bitterness comes from the fact that this is an Insomniac game, that team has a strong history with Sony/PS hardware.
 
I really don't understand the animation complaints. Looks fine to me, and keep in mind that this game is in development. They can up the animation by the end of its development stage.

Also, keep in mind, Insomniac are absolutely one of the best Devs out there when it comes to Animation and character.
 
Wow. That looks like the trailer. Looks stunning, I love colorful, fun and abstract worlds. This is exactly what MS needs and I look forward to seeing more.

IMHO it looks better than the trailer. Trailer obviously had cleaner IQ, but there is a lot more in the environments in the real game versus the trailer. It is kind of rare that the a real gameplay footage looks better than a CGI trailer, but in this case it is. Color me extremely impressed.

As a long time Jet Set Radio fan and also a Dead Rising fan, this looks like something that will be a lot of fun.

Also, keep in mind, Insomniac are absolutely one of the best Devs out there when it comes to Animation and character.

I think it's less about the animations and more about the transitions. The way the character snaps to certain objects while traversing the environment looks jarring at times.

I'm sorta mixed on that thing. On one end, I kind of agree, but at the same time I don't really mind it so much. Because of the unnatural way in which the player moves when he gets on rails like that (not like he's wearing a jetpack, or is somehow on a skateboard, you know?), It might be necessary to give the player a visual representation of your forward momentum. Then again, there's shots of gameplay where it isn't present at all, so maybe it serves some type of purpose that we don't know about yet.

In fact, there's moments of it being present even when no grinding is happening.

And do all vanity amps that do this sort of thing (demonstrate motion) take on that exact visual style with only color being the variation? Or might there be entirely different effects used to represent that sort of thing?

I think that thing that comes out of his back is an Amp. Maybe something that makes him move faster?

Just got home from a business trip and made my reply above...but I can't believe people are bitching about animations. The game looks so fluid and they still have a lot of time before release (assuming it is September).

Lighting to me looks really good and I like that there are night time sections and seems like other time of day. I am still catching up reading some of the pages, but it looks really clean to me, is this 1080p?

Yeah. I love how this game just isn't afraid to be batshit insane, like how many games used to be before devs started to have Hollywood delusions, and any and every AAA. game needed to be cinematic , realistic, gritty and super serious. The devs are clearly aiming to make a game that's pretty damned fun to play. I hope that it succeeds.
