Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Technically Zero Suit Samus is a second Metroid rep

Also, since when are "need more villains" and "coming up with the movesets" considered legitimate arguments?

Most arguments for or against the inclusion of a character are pretty invalid since we're dealing with a team that not only has very few clear "rules" (Wii Fit Trainer), but also disregards previously established "rules" (Villager).

I think it makes smash all the more exciting because the possibilities are endless if sakurai breaks established rules for character inclusion. He can literally put anything in the game he wants, and that's very exciting. It also means we shouldn't really be hoping for or arguing for any character inclusions.

Give me what you got sakurai! I'm just happy you're making more smash bros!

I agree, it's pretty great. I just think it's funny that we all try to come up with these "patterns" to justify a character when there really hasn't been many patterns at all.

I like speculating and coming up with ideas as much as anyone else here, but they're pretty much at liberty to include what they see fit, and that's really ok. Sakurai isn't betraying anyone by not including anything. He has a reason for including or not including things, and he doesn't have to explain his reason to anyone. People are free to buy or not buy his game as they wish, and that's ok.

whoa i missed alot of shit

Agreed. Characters cycle can be vicious sometime, but I always love characters speculations.

My god, are Pokemon/Smash fans really annoying, now there are people saying Sceptile is going to be added because Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire were announced and people going as far as saying they will remove Jigglypuff to add him, I honestly just hate most character speculation, but it is especially bad when it comes to Pokemon characters.

I don't see many of those posters in this thread, but I assume that you talked about posters at Sapphire and Ruby threads right?

Only speculation I dislike most is characters being cut speculations. It made me sad to see some people losing their characters if it happened.

The only rule for character inclusion is that the character has to be significant to Nintendo, to gaming in general, or to Sakurai personally.

I dunno. It's just a bummer. It's like having a 10 minute trailer for a movie that reveals all major plot points, even most of the ending, so you can figure it out on your own. Not exactly, but it's what it feels like.

The difference is that both Smash and Mario Kart aren't story focused games, they're games that are designed to be played over and over again for years. Nintendo has to convince people to upgrade from the last version to the new version otherwise they'll just keep playing Brawl and MK Wii (or whatever older version of smash/mk they prefer).

A movie and most other games which are story focused where its about the one time play though to experience doesn't need to show off the cards. People invested in the story will likely buy just to find out what happens next.

I've been spriting the assist trophies from the direct still btw.
I'll post em all online together once I'm done, but if anyone wants a specific
char as an avatar let me know & I'll post em when they're done.
Has Dark Samus been called? Because I want it if not. =3

I personally would like there to be a starter of all three starting types. Grass being my favorite of them, I'd really hate to see a Smash game where only Fire and Water are represented.

Oh, I know it's totally different, but having all the unlockables revealed FEELS like getting a movie spoiled. Doesn't make the movie bad, it's just a little less exciting.

Hey, I haven't seen any new 'leaks' since the Smash direct. Anyone spot any good ones recently?

Most of the Sceptile speculation is on GameFAQs. It's really hilarious how out of touch some people are.

Well I claimed Midna a while back so I wouldn't mind asking for that one once it's done.

Isn't any one worried about media overload? I feel like it happened already with MK8, we know everything, I have seen all tracks, all characters.

The same thing is happening with Smash now, I have seen so many screens that I'm not hyped anymore I'm just tired. Gimme the game already!

There has to been thousands of screens out there for the game, a lot of video footage. There will be even more with the E3 tournament. And we still will have to wait a few more months to get our hands on it.

I think the media blowout was best handled with SM3DW.

How so? I feel like there was too much about that game, too. They even revealed rosalina ahead of time, did they not? I remember calling the M3DW direct the 'Nintendo Spoiler Direct' because I felt it showed off too much.

When the Brawl hype got insane two things were post over and over until one of them got banned.

The first, that will be a hallmark of these threads until the end of time, is fear, both real and manufactured that certain characters that clearly will never be dropped are not in the game because they weren't shown yet.

The other, the one that was banned last time, was constant begging for the Blue Bomber. When he gets introduced ridiculously early into the hype phase of this game people gravitate to Ridley despite being wholly unsuited for anything more than a stage effect.

I don't know if I remember correctly but I feel like the screens and videos started flowing around 2 months before release. So enough time to get excited but not tired.

But I would have to check dates.

They did also put a big WARNING THE NEXT TWO ARE SPOILERS DON'T WATCH IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW

For both playable rosalina and luigi bros

You don't have to look at everything that they give you.

I like media overloads and spoilers. Shows me what I am getting. Doesn't detract from my experience.

Yeah, it'd be a lot different if this was a narrative driven game, but with Mario Kart and Smash Bros. I feel like it's better to know what you're getting ahead of time since (in my case anyway) you're going to end up playing it long after you experience the content for the first time.

Ah, you mean with timing. Yeah, I guess so. Then again, 3DS one is anywhere from 5 weeks to 15 weeks away, so timing could be about right.

That is true, I forgot about that :)

I imagine for Smash they may do a launch direct when its a week or two out to confirm the starting roster and stages then do a "WARNING TOP SECRET INFO ALL SECRET CHARACTERS AND STAGES ABOUT TO BE REVEALED" and then show the remaining cg trailers for hidden new comers and confirm the unlockable vets/stages

That's a very real possibility. I think sakurai wants to be the one who gets to divulge the info. Based on past comments I get the feeling he felt betrayed by the internet posting all of the sweet reveals and stole the glory from him and his game. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wanted the upper hand in revealing all of that information.

If he does that, though, that'll make the smash bros website a REALLY dull experience between 3DS and Wii U, especially if he uses the Wii U models for his spoiler direct.

Also the fact Wii U Smash hits Winter 2014 and 3DS version will be out a lot earlier.

Since they justify the inclusion of a character they want, silly.

I think there are no pokemon reps without limbs, which justifies the addition of dratini.

The justifications fans paint feel more like personal vindication than anything else really.

I don't mind speculation but when they use their arguments as though they're solid facts make it cringe-inducing.

Yeah same here. I pretty much want to know who are in before hand.

It could be possible that they keep a lot of characters out of the roaster from the 3DS version, and then when the Wii U version gets out they update the 3DS version with a DLC?

Did he confirm that the 3DS version will have the exact same roaster as Wii U?

That would be a good way to make people buy the wii u version, but it would also screw over any smash players for 3DS who don't use online. Small percentage of players, but I'm sure it exists. I think sakurai has mentioned concern for patches because it would mean not every player gets to enjoy the changes/additions. Doesn't mean it can't happen, but we'll see.

Why is Ridley begging not banned?

Kinda just wish the roster would just get leaked completely already. After that media blow out my hype kind of died. At least discussion could move toward a focus on gameplay rather than this madness and character speculation.

The hype exhaustion is probably due to it being so long since the big Smash Direct blowout last month and the slow trickle of information we've gotten since then. Something as big as the Smash Direct really should have been saved for about a month from release, just like the Mario Kart Direct, or should have had the info in it spread out over the next couple of months rather than blowing it all at once, since it makes most of the Daily Pics since then feel minor and inconsequential compared to what we saw in the Direct. Plus, we don't really have solid release dates for either versions, just vague timeframes (Summer and Winter) that are open to delays. I'd imagine it'd be a lot easier to get excited if we could properly count-down the days until the release of each version.

Yes he did.

They could do it Sonic Racing style and not unlock a character until a certain date has passed.

Easily exploitable by just changing your 3DS clock, but at least it would sort of be hidden until the WiiU release.

Otherwise the idea of unlockables on the WiiU is just going to be silly. Especially if any character has Mewtwo levels of unlock requirements.

Could just use the cross functionality supposed features of the 3ds version to auto unlock stuff on the Wii U version.

I'm still expecting that, if they're going to do anything to keep characters secret for the Wii U version, they'll pull the "buy both versions to get the complete experience" card. Thankfully, I think Sakurai doesn't give a fuck about keeping anyone secret for the Wii U release.

Because Ridley is too big of a discussion to be banned for obviously.

Didn't stop Mega Man discussion from being banned in the Brawl days.
