Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I mean during the Brawl hype period, where everyone was expecting nearly every 3rd Party character ever (but especially Mega Man).

I wasn't around at that time but I assume many users were clamoring for a single character which would cause a mindless cacophony of posts that didn't really contribute to any meaningful discussion.

Maybe it worked. Make a character request so frequent and annoying that it becomes a bannable offense. Sakurai and team notice, and therefore include it in next smash bros.

Alright ridley fans, all you guys have to do is to get banned for requesting him, and he'll be in smash 5!

Won't work for Geno though.

Smash 5 is the Wii U version of this Smash.

So bosses as stage hazards. After playing Triple Deluxe we need some of the Final Bosses from various games as Stage hazards. I think that would be awesome and stuff. What kinds of bosses would you like to see?

I am rather partial to Fire Emblem, Zelda and Kirby bosses preferably final bosses.

Don't know why I haven't thought about this before. Hmm... I can't even think about what I'd want as a stage boss, let me stew on it for a while.

Crap, thinking about it, I just realized we don't have a star fox stage, do we? Chance for 'Monkey Andross'?

We also don't have a new DK stage. Gangplank Galleon w/ K. Rool as a stage boss for the double upset.

I'm finally able to admit I was in denial thinking I would not buy a 3DS for Smash. Everyone else should admit it too so you can get your finances in order.

A Smash game is coming out this summer and you're going to let everyone else play it without you? Really?

You don't already have one?

Half the people in my house think that smash bros on 3ds 'looks terrible' and therefore they dont' want to play it. They'll be the ones at a massive disadvantage once the wii u one comes out and I already know how to play it.

This might also explain the awkward positioning of L and R

This is so true. Word of warning, this is totally going to affect the default controls for both versions of Smash 4, too.
Fortunately, custom button arrangements were a thing in Brawl, and probably will be here as well.

You still use the joint to press B, you just stick your finger in the other direction lol

Solution: Place the tip of the thumb between B and A at the same angle as the Y/B config, and tilt your thumb left and right to hit the buttons.
I have monster hands, though, so this solution might not be viable for everyone.

Also, set up for Smash 3DS will probably be something like A: Normal, B: Special and X: Jump, as that would be comparable to the GCN setup.

While that is the solution, it's still not as comfortable as just using B/Y.

(Also, the guy admitted he was deliberately exaggerating the problem for comedic effect, so there's that to take into account.)

Also, set up for Smash 3DS will probably be something like A: Normal, B: Special and X: Jump, as that would be comparable to the GCN setup.
Only in terms of button labels. If we're talking button positions, the comparable layout would be B: Normal, Y: Special, A/X: Jump.

No, I'm talking about positioning here. GCN controller's B/A/Y is a > shape, comparable to the 3DS's B/A/X, while what you're suggesting are < & v shapes.

Smash will most likely have customisable controls.

I don't get how Smash 3DS looks "terrible".

It has a huge roster, stages with actual interaction (Rainbow Road etc), all the items, assist trophies, online, a cool exclusive mode and to top it off, 60fps 3D.

And that's probably not even all of it. It's basically the Wii U game with lower res graphics and a smaller screen.

People need to justify "terrible" properly.

Don't forget worse controls and inconvenient multiplayer!

It doesn't look terrible, but it's inferior.

No, I'm suggesting the button on the bottom, the one my thumb naturally gravitates toward, be the button that does the basic attack, while the one on the left, again one my thumb much prefers pushing, do the stronger/special attacks, and the button on the top (I never used X much on the GC controller during Smash) be the one to let me jump. It has nothing to do with shapes, for me.

I don't like being forced to use the DS/3DS's A button repeatedly. It's too close to the edge of the unit, and tends to give my thumb minor cramps if I have to use it a lot.

Where are these people saying Smash 3DS looks terrible I've not seen them

My girlfriend and other people I know. It's based on a shallow, and only mild interest in smash bros. Show a casual fan some footage of both the Wii U and 3DS one and see which one they pick that they want to play.

I'm not saying they're right, it's just what I have actually heard come out of their mouths. My girlfriend refuses to play the 3DS one because she thinks the graphics look bad, yes she's that shallow about it.

I just hope we get 100% solid US release date for the 3ds version at E3. The sooner the better!

It will definitely be at or around E3. E3 is right before summer starts (june 21 in the US), so even if it's releases the LAST day of summer (september 20), E3 is roughly 3 months away, which is soon enough for a solid release. If I had to guess the date, it would be Aug 24 or 31.

I just think people are bitter that the Wii U version isn't coming first.

I admit it's going to be really weird having to wait up to five-six months to play a different version of a game that's still retaining the exact same mechanics and exact same characters with the only explicit difference being stages and game modes (I guess supplemental content as a whole).

That might dampen some of the fresh feeling of going into a brand new Smash Bros game on the big screen, but this isn't really something that's been done before so it's hard to say.

about the 3DS version, the only thing that I know it could lack are game modes, but as long as I have free for all vs battles multiplayer I am cool with that, I will get both so whatever

I wouldn't agree with that. I'd think only casual fans would be interested in the 3DS version, because the competitive elements are crippled.

They did also put a big WARNING THE NEXT TWO ARE SPOILERS DON'T WATCH IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW

For both playable rosalina and luigi bros

Are you sure, BassForever? I'm pretty sure that Warning were spoken by Reggie, rather than putting up a sign of warning. I was annoyed by that because I'm deaf so I don't understand what he's saying until people in chatroom told me that he mentioned that thought talking. It's really not deaf friendly for people who don't understand what the heck he's talking about.

Where is said list? Anyone claim chain chomp?

No one ever claim it from top of my head.

Correction:

The 3DS version will have roughly the same types of Assist Trophies and Pokémon. Just roughly...

But I would like to like some kind of clarification for that tho. I wonder if they mistranslated types as numbers or what?

I just think people are bitter that the Wii U version isn't coming first.

Yeah, People are still bitter about that unfortunately. I always look at 3DS being first is positive thing for me.

Fortunately, custom button arrangements were a thing in Brawl, and probably will be here as well.

But the only controller with ABXY buttons that Nintendo made that weren't configured that way was the GCN controller. On the N64 controller all they did was basically rename YB or XA to BA. Games where you regularly need to hold 2 buttons tend to use YB or XA.

The most popular smash controller is obviously the GCN controller.

The relationship between B and A isn't very different. The main difference is that X and Y have rotated counterclockwise.

Where are these people saying Smash 3DS looks terrible I've not seen them

Go to Smashboards.

I'm not sure what people were expecting. Brawl but shrunken down? The art style makes this Smash stand out instead of looking like a completely inferior version of the Wii U or Brawl game. So glad Brawl's earthy tones are done away with. I didn't like it then and I really really really don't like it now.

I'm excited to go to conventions with Smash 3DS and battle people while waiting for my turn to play on the Wii U version for all to see.

I know what I wanted to talk about, customization. We know we'll get to use customized moves, but unless plans have changed since E3, Sakurai mentioned how we could customize characters on the 3DS and show them off on the Wii U. It seems you can customize on the Wii U by itself just fine so I'm still banking on something more aesthetic being changed.

Customizations include:
-Stage intros (Dk bursts out of a barrel or Rambi drops him off)
-Winning fanfare (Super Mario Bros stage clear or 3D World stage clear)
-Extra costumes beyond what's available on Wii U.
-Special Effects (Instead of Rainbows from Peach and Yoshi maybe "POW!" or "BORK"

I doubt it's just special attacks that get customized.

I kept the avatar list updated on the thread it orginated from which was a long time ago. Hah. But no, nobody has Chain Chomp.

No one ever claim it from top of my head.

Woohoo!

Ok, neorice, i'd love to request chain chomp if you're working on it. I've always wanted a neorice avatar.

I wouldn't agree with that. I'd think only casual fans would be interested in the 3DS version, because the competitive elements are crippled.

I don't think casuals care about any of that at all. They just want it as a party game to be played w/ friends. It's like mario kart to them. That's my experience anyway (using my girlfriend/family as a reference point). She also doesn't want to play smash bros on a small screen.

It's a complaint about the newest Kirby game. Ever since the DS entries, they've used A/B as jump/inhale, completely ignoring that the SNES entries used B/Y. This even extends to Kirby Super Star Ultra, a port of a game that used B/Y, but arbitrarily changed that control scheme to use A/B instead!

I double checked, and you are right that Reggie only verbally says it BUT when they get to the last two points number 9 clearly says UNLOCKABLE bonus game and number 10 says UNLOCKABLE 5th character so if you were trying to avoid spoilers you still had time to pause/close the stream

Trust me, the shape is going to be a lot more important than your little hangups. Using your setup, you would basically have to fight against all the muscle memory you've developed since Melee. If you don't believe me, then fire up Brawl with a classic controller with both of our setups and see which one feels more natural.

Replying to this part:

It doesn't matter if they keep fucking it up with Kirby. It's not the design of the controls that is the problem, it's the developer assigning the wrong buttons.

Don't forget worse controls and inconvenient multiplayer!

It doesn't look terrible, but it's inferior.

Wireless multiplayer is arguably move convenient as you can play wherever you like without having to transport a home console back and forth. You can also play on the go.

Local multiplayer, sure.

On the whole "incontinent multiplayer" front, do you guys think there will be Download Play functionality for the 3DS edition, so that your friends don't have to own a copy of the game to play with you?

Local multiplayer, sure.

It requires my friends and I to have 4 3DS and 4 copys of Smash to play together, that is far more inconvenient then just 1 wiiu, 1 copy of smash, and 4 controllers.

No way unless it's like no items final destination
fox only
one cart trying to stream a 4 player match of smash bros at 60fps would be murder

But, at least many people have 3DS' to play.

But I already said, local play is quite inconvenient.

Not if you live with the person :p

Local play is way more convenient in that case. It depends on the group of players, for sure.

Once the wii u version is out, it's what i'll probably play 99% of the time. The only time the 3ds one will get played will be on a road trip or while i'm away w/out a wii u.

You realize how download play works, right? The systems that don't have the game just download a "lite" version of the game from the system that does, and, after that, it's just like playing with someone who has another copy of the game (except they don't have most of the features of the full version).

But, at least many people have 3DS' to play.

But I already said, local play is quite inconvenient.

Yes but if one person in your group of friends doesn't have one then you can't play with him at all unless he drops $120-200 to own a 3DS AND another $40 on Smash Bros for 3DS. It doesn't matter where the fuck he is I can't play with him ever. Even if my friend lives on the other side of the planet if he flies to visit me and I own the WiiU version we can play together even if he's never owned a video game anything in his life. I may be the only person in my group that has a WiiU, but we'll all be able to play the WiiU version day one at release. Only 2 of my 5 smash playing friends have a 3DS, meaning unless the other 3 buy a 3DS and Smash Bros we can't play together, there is NOTHING convenient about that
