Sunset Overdrive Gameplay Footage [Up: Official Trailer released!]

Yeah I see nothing wrong with a locked 30, especially in an open-world game.

I remember reading an article about Infamous about what would be lost if they went up to 60fps and the Sucker Punch guy said resolution. I just don't think it's fair to expect 60/1080 on these types of open world games, especially this early in the console's lifecycle.

Infamous had really fast traversal, in an open world game its hard to avoid pop in if you're traveling so fast.
Also Infamous had ridiculous amounts of particle effects.
Just look at whats going on in that framerate test video from DigitalFoundry, I've never seen anything like that in any game.

So you'd think that an open world game with less crazy effects and more conservative means of traversal would be able to pull of 60FPS.

But then again, why would you go for 60FPS in an open world game? If you have some spare rssources use them for better visuals, not for 60FPS.

Regarding the fluidity of traversal:
From what I've seen of SO, its no match for Second Son:

But I'm sure that gameplay in SO will be more diverse.

I'm not really seeing why Infamous is so much more fluid. Both look pretty good to me.

SO looks a lot more bouncy though.

Nice. Now if I only had a One to play it with. I'm hoping enough exclusives get announced at E3 making me want a One badly. This is the first game to make me wish i had the console.

When you mention respawning in style as one of the main selling points of your game in your gameplay debut video, that means your game has little substance,

Infamous went the Saints Row 4 route of traversal "fluidity" meaning it trivializes it. Traversal during combat is basically the same as it's ever been. If gameplay variety with traversal and gunplay ends up being worse than Infamous SS, then I'll be pretty disappointed. Hell even the exploration and climbing, which was obviously borrowed from Crackdown, was completely ignored in Infamous SS. I'm really hoping that Sunset Overdrive has a good amount of effort put into stuff like side activities.

What a ridiculous statement. It was clearly tongue-in-cheek, further emphasizing the tone they're going for. Are you actively looking for reasons to dump on the game?

Maybe. Its one of two exclusive games for the Xbox One we know about. The other being Quantum Break. Its one of the few things Microsoft can point to and bang a drum about until E3.

We actually technically know of 4 including SO though. The others are Quantum Break, D4 and Fable Legends.

There seems to be an overabundance of negativity on forums from various people, I often wonder if they are like this all the time outside of these online chats.

Anyways I am pulling for Insomniac. This looks like loads of fun.

Infamous has herky-jerky animations and I prefer SO's artistic choices such as their use of colors but to each their own.

60FPS adds to the visual fidelity and makes everything look and feel smoother which is more important than eye candy that lags the experience, and I'd say 3D open world games benefit a lot from 60FPS (and this is really apparent in say Grand Theft Auto). 60FPS adds not only visual fidelity but just as important if not moreso: makes the game play better too

The only time I can rationalize 30FPS over 60 for open world games is if the game feels dead and shallow in its "open world".

One thing I've noticed is the most particle intense moments are when Delsin absorbs powers and during that time he is stopped and the camera is zoomed in to highlight it. So at that moment the PS4 is not rendering much else. It's a beautiful looking game but it's not this flawless example that all games now have to live up to. There is also the lack of interaction with water. I have noticed pop up. They use fake reflections for all the glass. I have seen DUP vehicles dissappear and chased them down to see if they just left the draw-in range. Unfortunately, it was nowhere to be found. It looks like I:SS has the same lack of persistence that the previous gen open world games of this type had. So we need to keep that in mind when we start comparing every game to it.

all I have to say is FUD. I've played enough hours of I:SS to know this is untrue

Looks really fun which is what matters most. But something about the art style bugs me, the human characters in particular, they look ugly and boring compared to the rest of the world. Besides that, the game looks fine. It looks like it could also be for last gen consoles as well though.

He's actually not wrong about there being no interaction with water and there being no reflections in the various windows throughout the game. The real stand out being the beginning, just after your encounter with Augustene. You wakeup in that hut and you walk pass a window that's reflecting everything in the room but Delsin...

Can't say I noticed much pop in though or had vehicles randomly appear or disappear. There was a heck of a lot of clipping though, didn't really bother me though. Was more funny than anything else...

Looks really good

Looks like it matches second son graphically

It does on GIFs and stuff on you tube. Its hard to see image quality on compressed to crap stuff / small screen etc.

I doubt it will look as good as infamous on a large TV screen in a living room, I notice 1080 much easier, and the lack of it.

However, if its got campaign coop then it looks like a good game.

They're not ripping off of anyone. I see the infamous similarity but it's also because the game just came out. Not even sure why comparing it to infamous would be an insult. All of the games are highly praised.

I dont SO looks that good, definitely no match for ISS, there are lots of jaggies and world looks flat. I think X1 can do better looking games in the future such as Halo5. So i dont get why it is considered trolling by voicing our thoughts about the much hyped graphics of SO.

Who is claiming that those who aren't impressed with the visuals are trolling?

I think they look fantastic, pretty damn stunning in fact, but the real test will be when I finally get to play the game on my home set up.

FUD is a lame attempt at an argument. I have put more than 20 hours into the game the last few days. I stand by everything I said. It's a great looking game but it has its flaws. So if someone comes into a thread about about another game, such as Sunset Overdrive, and try to claim that I:SS is the high bar that needs to be reached. The flaws of the game need to be pointed out. Here's a few more I noticed, pedestrians sometimes group up and start circling around. Outside of vehicles, some mission areas, and weapon crates the world is indestructible.

Looks like one of those games where I will play it for a day and love it but never pick it up again afterwards.

Nice art style and graphics though.

The animations in traversal transitions are more fluid in Infamous, particularly in those gifs. Sucker Punch has had a lot of time perfecting that snap-to environment traversal though.

But lol how this turned into a infamous comparison.

Interesting...

The last 2 pages of this thread is talking about inFamous and the last 2 pages of the Driveclub thread is talking about Forza.

There's no escape :(

In Infamous during fight sequences, how A.I characters were on screen at once?
