Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I just got approval to post here after a few months of waiting and am super stoked to be able to finally be a part of this thread; I must check it for news hourly.

So, what are the odds NeoGAF will be up during E3? Should I be expecting the site to crash during Nintendo's stream?

As everyone else has said there is pretty much no chance of GAF staying up during e3.

Thanks for the welcomes! And for the confirmation that I'll be NeoGAF-less post stream.
GAF going down during E3 is practically a yearly tradition. Hell, we couldn't even stay up during the Greninja reveal, what makes you think we'll stay up for Zelda U

Ah, I didn't even think of that. Smash Bros. hype makes me keep forgetting a FREAKING NEW ZELDA is going to be shown. If they show a new Star Fox
by some miracle
, I may pass out.

Welcome to SmashGAF.

Welcome!

It's a tossup really. The chance that Zelda U might be shown may cause it to be overloaded, but I wouldn't bet money on it.

You probably think this is awesome, in a few weeks when the servers are dead you'll be saying

As you'll want to discuss e3 but can't
Haha, I've already sort of experienced it. I always check this thread when a new character is announced and it's almost always down. I think I remember it being up during the Smash Direct, though; I feel like I was able to see everyone freaking out over Greninja's reveal.

You can never leave now!

I honestly had to wait 3 weeks to post. Was I just lucky at this point?

I only waited like a month and a half, but I've some stories of people waiting over six months. I'm just happy I was able to get it before E3.

So here is the game plan, avoid all threads are remotely controversial for the next 3 months, get to 300 posts, if your post could even remotely draw heat don't post it, wait till you're a full member, then post how you feel like

Will do! Thanks for the advice. The whole process to become a full member has me on pins and needles.

Also, to bring it back to Smash, do we have any sort of list of things we want to find out from the Best Buy demo? Maybe we could actually have certain people in charge of discovering certain aspects of the game in the limited play time we'll get (wave dashing, fall times, etc.). With all the people here who I'm sure will be going to a Best Buy, I'm sure we could get a lot of questions answered.

Yeah, he's right. Irc is bunker for smashgaf if the forum crash.

Pfff, not as if IRC fared any better during the SSB Direct. Literally couldn't send any text during half of the Direct. New feature reveal hype kicked the Text Blocker in without fail :P

So basically stay here in SmashGAF, post something halfways relevant to the topic (you should see the amount of off-topic we have in here at times, almost a wonder we're still in gaming :P) and refrain from posting sexual fanart. Follow that and you've got a pretty much 0% chance of being banned before becoming a full member.

Oh, another "rule": STAY THE **** AWAY FROM LBGT OR SIMILAR HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL TOPICS. Seriously, those are a mass-grave each time they pop up (latest example: #Miiquality and friends). If you have an even slightly different opinion on those topics than the majority you better have some pretty damn good points to back up your opinion, else you will be banned so fast that you can't even edit your initial post :P

Seems like a lot of us are just getting approved. I'm pretty sure they intentionally approve a bunch of people just before E3 so they can weed out a bunch of juniors during E3.

I WILL SURVIVE.

That's probably a good call. I'm sure there were some casualties when the Zero Suit Samus heel debate came around as well.

it's not that hard, all you have to do is not spam "WHY DO PEOPLE CARE SO MUCH STOP CARING ABOUT THIS" or sound like an asshole

I agree, but if you have emotionally invested mods in those threads (especially if they had already argued with assholes for hours in the same thread) it's certainly possible to directly get banned for posts which would otherwise be give the benefit of doubt and the chance for the poster to explain themselves.

I've seen a few posts in the #Miiquality thread which I think wouldn't have been banworthy in other threads (lots of "WTF dude o.O" posts by other members, but not banworthy) but got their poster immediately banned there.

Mods seem to drive zero tolerance in controversial threads (which I agree with btw), so even the CHANCE of getting banned should be more than enough of a reason for a junior to stay the fuck away from those.

Guys just wanted to pop and say the wife and I just learned today we have another child on the way!

Congratulations!

I've always wanted to ask, what decides the length of your ban? Does it depend on the mod who does it, their particular mood at the time, what it was that got you banned in the first place etc? Or is there a fairly normal set of guidelines (e.g. spreading FUD will result in an automatic permaban)?

I'm working on that issues, and I'm considering to set up password for the chatroom so I will put password in email link so people can quote me and get the password.

That's great news. Congrz, and good luck! :)

If it is a boy, name him Ridley. That way he will experience the joy of playing as Ridley for the first time in Super Smash Bros 7.
Congrats, though.

Considering that nothing in Brawl is as ludicrously stupid as Mewtwo was, it seems like they're smart enough to avoid that.

So, I know that I'm probably the only person who was masochistic enough to unlock R.O.B. through the "collect 250 unique trophies" route, which took me THREE WEEKS of daily play, but I definitely have to disagree there. Heck, according to

http://www.smashbros.com/wii/en_uk/gamemode/various/various35_list.html

the "play matches for X hours" requirement was actually retained for Brawl, just not tied to a character in the same way that it was for Mewtwo. If you're going to talk about learning a lesson, did Uprising have any ludicrous unlock requirements?

I unlocked all of the Brawl characters through VS matches instead of the SSE like I think most did, and it still only took around a week. How / why did you do the trophy method without meeting one of the other requirements?
