I approve 120%, but I personally wouldn't describe it as cute. :P That said, I am extremely happy not just to see Michael Sam get drafted, but also that he and his boyfriend can so freely and without repercussions express their love for one another in an environment that is both tolerant and accepting of who they are as individuals.

One of the most amazing things to happen in the world, not just in this country, in recent years was the way all those people from his school formed a massive human wall to keep out protestors who planned on protesting against him when he got back to school shortly after revealing he was gay. I can only imagine the collection of feelings and emotions going through his head at that moment to see that there was such amazing support for him at school.

And don't think badly of me saying I don't think it's cute. It's just a personal preference thing. Not discriminating against either of them or anything.

You still don't know what you're talking about. The Rams haven't even had to ask for an extension to sell enough tickets to avoid a blackout in years. Furthermore, the NFL doesn't buy up tickets and teams rarely do. It's usually corporate sponsors, which again, haven't had to participate to avoid a blackout in many years.

The Rams celebrated their best average attendance in 6 years last year, and had the most season tickets sold in a decade.

Again, things are far from perfect, but you're stating things that are simply untrue.

I have contact with a number of people within the Rams organization, including COO Kevin Demoff on occasion.

Good to see an open gay player. Shouldnt have to hide things like this in fear it might destroy your career. Shame though some people are just assholes. We had a few guys shouting faggot when this popped up on the screens in the orchestra section.

You better ask mister Demoff to clarify because there's been a number of times that the tickets were bought up and donated to charities to avoid what happened in 2009 with no one seeing the last three home games.

Or you could prove your assertion. First you said games are always blacked out, and now you're agreeing they're not but only because the tickets are being bought up.

Here's the thing, before that happens, teams ask for an extension beyond the noon Thursday (for a Sunday game) sell out deadline. That extension is made public and reported by the media to aid in ticket sales. So please, go find me a report of a request for extension in the last few years.

Oh, and if the Rams were buying up the tickets, then why are you so confident they're moving?

Wouldn't they welcome blackouts to provide evidence of a lack of support?

The amount of misinformation spewed by folks like you about the situation is astounding. But the Rams are partially to blame. They're fine with people being scared of a move if it helps motivate stadium talks.

Numerous times games have been announced as having to be blacked out before a corporation buys the remaining tickets and donates them to charity. You can listen to ticket sales on the local radio all week beg fans to go to the games. In 2010 the Rams had to formally ask for an extension because the amount of tickets left was too much for a local company to buy. Hell, last season's home opener had 10000 empty seats! They are only beating Oakland in attendance the last few years. No one cares about the Rams! St. Louis is a baseball town. Ask the Arizona Cardinals! No one gave a shit about them either.

Keep avoiding my question and moving the chains.

The Rams had the worst 5 year record in NFL history before Fisher arrived. So of course attendance is down.

No one gives a shit? Training camp had a record number of attendees last year. I could go on and on.

57,000 people a game is still a substantial number and things are on the uoswing. And to hear Demoff tell it he's pleasantly surprised tickets have sold as well as they have.

Also, during the greatest show on turf years (99-03) the Rams were more popular than the Cardinals in a number of measures. Hell, just 2-3 ago a regular season Rams game was STILL beating a Cardinals playoff game in the tv ratings locally.

Just because a lot of the casual fans have dropped off doesn't mean a very strong core doesn't remain.

He played college ball for Missouri.

He got drafted by the St Louis Rams, who are also based in Missouri.


I think you're reading too far into his statement for entirely the wrong reason. I myself also think it's fitting that they drafted him. He gets to stay in the same state he's been at the past few years of his life.

anyways this is good for him but I am kinda scared on the locker-rooms interactions between him and the team because we do know that NFL locker-rooms are notorious for bigots.

It sounds like he still has alot of work to do to get on the team. Hopefully no phobias and politics get in the way.
 
Good for him. I hope people don't freak out if he doesn't make the Rams 53 man roster. They have a ton of talent at his position and making the team will be tough. If it doesn't work out with the Rams he will get a shot somewhere else.

I remember reading not too long ago he was really underwhelming at the combine. Lots of teams are going to latch on to that as an excuse
