Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

When I came into this thread I initially thought it was too soon for a Ruby/Sapphire remake. I looked up when the originals were released (2002 JP, 2003 EE) and now I'm soo friggin depressed, how the f--k a decade passed so fast is beyond me.
Time flies when you're having fun?

Those weather animations look pretty dramatic. I really, really hope they've brought permanent weather back because I'm tired of switching weak ass Politoed in every 8 turns. And it'll be every 5 turns with a Mega Kyogre if they keep X's weather system.

I was only in like 2nd grade when it came out and now I'm a college student.

Crazy how fast time is.

Those are almost certainly cutscenes for when they awaken and cause the Perpetual Drought/Rainstorm, not battle scenes.

You'll take your nerfed weather and like it.

New unique ability: Perpetual Drought/Rainstorm.

Join me. I have a box full of Kingdras and Kabutops.

Life yo. We'll be at Gen 10 in the blink of an eye while pondering gen 7 remakes or something.

It will always bother me that Drizzle isn't instead named Downpour. Seriously, when you think of eternal rain flooding the world, do you think of a drizzle?

I just had another idea regarding patching X and Y regarding new Mega Evolutions. Maybe, just maybe, we all saw it way to complicated? As far as I know X and Y writes atleast something on the SD card while you save right? What if they coded X and Y in a way where additional Pokémon data can be just "plugged in"?

Lets say I trade my (Mega) Kyogre back to X, maybe OR/AS could just sent the relevant data-files along the trade to the receiving 3DS?

I know I probably spent waaay too much thought and energy on this issue aslong as we aren't even sure if we get new Mega Evolutions but I just like to think about technical issues and how to solve them :P

They've dealt with issues like this with RBY/GSC, DPP/HGSS, and BW/BW2 as well.

Wow, kind of shocked to see all the Mega hate in this thread. They're the best thing to happen to the series in a long time. And its the only thing close to new Pokemon we might be getting from these remakes.

Just think of Flygon. It's a really cool Pokemon that's unfortunately grown increasingly outclassed and irrelevant. A Mega Evo could bring a new typing (fucking Bug/Dragon, hello?), better stats and a new ability to make him useful again.

Plus, the design has major potential. IMO, they've done a great job with them so far. Most of them are natural progressions and I couldn't imagine them looking better.

I like Megas in general but they have two major, major flaws:
1) They're poorly woven into the plot.
I hate that Megas are like legendaries. It's stupid. It means you're the only trainer the whole game aside from a few others to use Megas. I want to see more people using them. It's cool to beat the game because you're good at accomplishing shit, and not because you won a ring from a contest. Give more trainers Megas, and make them more widespread. There's only like 10 to choose from in the main campaign. Why?
2) The designs are inconsistent.
I like a lot of the designs of the Megas. But some of them are really inconsistant. A lot of them look radically different from the normal Pokemon, while a lot add very little. I kind of like the thought of them adding very little, because it shows they're not different Pokemon or forms, and rather just slight upgrades. But then there's designs like Mega Mewtwo Y that take this concept away.

Yeah, I don't get the Mega hate either, they're awesome.

Here's hoping for Mega Flygon, Mega Milotic, Mega Sharpedo, Mega Metagross, Mega Swampert, and Mega Sceptile.

CoroCoro promises that new content will come & be revealed in the issue next month, currently set for release on June 14th 2014.

That's just after E3, so...

Mega Starters and Mega Pseudo Legends are really obvious but then we also got stuff like Mega Manectric and Mega Banette. I wouldn't be surprised if we got something like Mega Wailord.

There were so many Gen 3 megas already in XY that I don't see them adding many more besides the obvious Groudon/Kyogre [maybe Rayquaza?] and probably Sceptile/Swampert, unless GF really doesn't have the capacity to care about them enough to give them megas alongside Blaziken. Nevermind the yet to be officially revealed Lati@s megas.

Perhaps they could give Unova and Kalos Pokes Megas now?
I'm guessing Kyogre and Groudon will get Megas, and Ho-oh and Lugia could possibly too (or they'll at least be available). Wouldn't be hard to add Navel Rock back in, since it was in Emerald anyways, and just not make it an event this time.

Well, if the wait is that long...then GF and TPC effectively killed a lot of the hype by showing some underwhelming 10 second footage. It would have been better to the hype brew into something that could appeased everyone.

People would have been disappointed no matter what...

If we keep getting new megas every gen, I imagine they're saving Unova megas for next gen, then Kalos for gen 8, and so on, if they follow a pattern like that anyway. I guess they want Pokemon to be old enough (6 or 7 years I guess, since Sinnoh got a few mega Pokemon) before they deem them worthy of the mega revitalization. That's how I see it anyways.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Naval Rock make a return now that you mention it. If HGSS are anything to go by, there may be a shitton of legendary Pokemon to catch in the post game. Bringing back Naval Rock would be a great place to put a Ho-Oh or Lugia encounter depending on game version, like how HGSS had the place where you could catch a Groudon or Kyogre. Although I doubt mega forms of the GS legends would go along with them.

Really don't think so. If they just let it sink or announced it even a bit later, then I don't think we'd be hyper-critical two pieces of 5 second footage that are practically the same except for different models.

I pray to Arceus for megaevolution to die and bring back classic evolution. A lot of pokes are in dire need of 3rd or even 2nd evolution, a thing that gen IV handled perfectly, so I don't see why they should repeat the marketing gimmick of genVI.

That would work until someone decides to remove the SD while having already recieved a new item or so, how would the game handle that? Does it currently boot without SD and how does it react to the SD being removed during gameplay?

It's possible there won't be any models patched in for new mega evos and the indicator on the health bar will be the only way to tell.

My mind could barely handle the amount of pokemon advertisement, and all for a few seconds of footage...

So many colors, so much pokemon...it was overwhelmingly, lol. Japans way of advertising is on a whole other level. It doesnt seem mentally healthy, at all.

It amazes me how much pokemon is still a thing in Japan.

I completely agree.

So this is going to be the first time a main Pokémon game will have a proper debut at E3.

The new pokemon announcement has led to me thinking of pokemon a lot in my day to day life, and one thing I always end up thinking about that really bugs me is legendary pokemon. Why the fuck is there only 'one' of each? How the hell did they even get there? There can't be that many endangered species with only a single specimen left. And why the heck do they let some scrawny kid catch them and boss them around?

Because the kid has pokemon that are way stronger the legendary. Pokemon raised on love and friendship.

You know, they're called lengendaries for a reason... they're stuff made of legend. Unless I'm mistaken, Arceus is credited for being the creator of the universe (or something like that). So it's kinda like a god, in a way...

And that's mostly gameplay logic too. In the anime/movies (and even the game), there's sometimes several legendaries of the same species (the shiny legendary dogs from Gen 2 for example).

The save data is on the cart. However, even the physical version of the game requires an SD card to play. So yes, that is possible I suppose.

Though alternatively they can just do some compatibility patch shenanigans and have people who aren't compatible not show up on the PSS and so on.

Ah so I didn't imagine things, X and Y really need a SD Card, has anyone actually tried what happens if you start the game without one or dare to remove it during gameplay?
Filtering the compatibility right on the PSS would also work I suppose though, good idea!

Interesting, I had no idea about that :o Can you elaborate a bit on that? The only thing I remember was the patch for the Berry System through Pokémon Channel.

The "No models, only stats" approach would work fine too in the worst case I agree. Also yeah the whole removal of the SD Card issue is the main problem for the most part though I'm sure that X and Y already save a huge chunk of data to the SD Card even when you a physical copy of the game as PreyingShark said too. However I'm also not sure what currently happens when you mess with it, that's why I asked above too. Hopefully someone can answer, I'm curious about that.

Still way too soon

There's reason to believe that there's two Mewtwos, other legendaries could have multiples as well!

There's actually not that much hate, just one or two vocal minorities that have to mention how much they hate Megas in every other post for some reason.

In case of Diamond/Pearl I'm pretty sure there was some patch distributed through download stations in Japan to fix the surf glitch, but I'm not 100% confident.

One thing I hope that carries over from XY is character customization. They might be a bit strict since Brendan/May are already established characters with a specific look, but they could still let us change the outfit. Nintendo should let us just go all in with skin and eye color. The time for black May is now!

I'd be surprised and disappointed if they didn't give us at least a similar level of customization to X/Y. I imagine they'll have a default look used in artwork that is an updated version of their classic RS looks, but in-game we'll be able to customize.

I'm hoping for even more customization.

The skin tone options are pretty limited.
