Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

There's no reason to think that Lucario and a Toon link won't be available from the beginning, and sheik definitely won't lol. Luigi might be the only non-3rd party exception, as Sakurai noted that this was an unusual case, and attributed it to the Year of Luigi. There's nothing to suggest that he's revealing any other unlockables.

Lucario maybe gets a promotion, but you're not turning on that game in August and being presented with two Links.

Summer break, not the meteorological season of summer.

And no, I don't consider it a stretch for Nintendo to consider most of September a summer month.
No, not just summer break. In our hemisphere, the months of summer are June, July, and August.

But turning on the game and getting two Zeldas is okay? Two Samuses? Everything points to toon link being on the starting roster.

Technically yes, but September is considered a Fall month, not a summer one. The last summer month is August.
I don't know what this is supposed to mean. Most of September takes place in summer.

Granted, I don't think the game will release in September, but that would still qualify as a summer release.

In terms of advertising and releases, not meteorologically, September is the Fall. Not summer.

In my hemisphere (North America) summer starts on June 21 and ends September 22. More of September is summer than June.

Yes, June, July, and August are considered "the" summer months, but come on, man, Nintendo is exactly the kind of company that would release their summer game in September because it's still technically summer.

Those aren't clones, though. Smash has never had multiple versions of the same basic character available from the first time you boot up the game. Never.

Wind Waker HD means Toon Link got revealed early. That's it. He's unlockable. I will gladly eat an avatar bet or some bullshit on this matter if I've gotta prove how absolutely confident I am in my logic.

I would imagine that people who requested customized costumes for playable characters would be annoying since I'm sure that people would making some odd costumes choices like this image,

The way they handled it with MK8, basically showing everything, makes me wonder if they won't do the same with this.

I hope not but I'm prepared for that tho.

You lot complicate things. If you just go by the three months per season rule you never have to worry about working out when seasons end. June, July August equals summer. Simples.

"Super smash bros 3ds is available... NOW on the eshop and will be available in a week at retail"

Gaf would be deader then dead

Buying 2 versions of the same Smash would be crazy though - getting the eShop one, than the physical...

Alas, does anyone think there will be a Special Edition?

What? Dude, you ever play Championship Edition DX? You should, it's great!

Also, I'm expecting Pacman + one other. At this rate I think we're getting close to the starting roster as far as newcomers are concerned, with probably one or two left. They're want to have the whole starting either revealed or almost revealed by the time E3 is over. I'd expect the one remaining newcomer to be revealed at E3 along with Pacman. I guess my money would be on Mii.

I think I have played Championship Edition... maybe not DX. I remember the final boss just being an underwhelming giant ghost. And that's about it. It was 4 years ago though, so... yeah. Foggy memory.

he's still probably the most famous video game character of all time

in fact, yep, I can say with absolute certainty this is true

... You really think so? I kinda doubt it. I really don't think a lot of kids nowadays know who he is, whereas Mario, everyone knows, whether it be in positive or negative light. I dunno. Maybe I'm just skeptical.

"Kids nowadays don't know this" is the vaguest statement I have ever heard.

Which kids? Why does it matter if they recognize a character? There's a greater than zero chance kids don't recognize most characters in Smash Bros.

They already are doing that. Lucario, Toon Link, Luigi... they aren't gonna be available from the beginning! I wouldn't be surprised if characters Greninja or Sheik need to be unlocked either. Marth might have got a promotion, depends on if he's the only FE character or not.

Ugh, I really hope they aren't revealing all the secret characters beforehand.

I know the 29 or so we've already seen is certainly more than the starting roster, but I'll be quite let down if we know nearly everyone before the game launches.

Especially since there's no way I can avoid finding out who gets added with every new character getting a multipage gaf thread that gives away the character in the title that ends up on the front page for hours if not days.

... I was just talking about him probably being the most popular character in the world. Not his odds in SSB4. And the fact he hasn't really had many super duper games nowadays just makes me think most kids/teens, I'd say 8-14, probably don't know about him. That's all. ._. And even then, that's just all a guess.

How do you "consider" a technical date

Like, can I consider my birthday June through December?
Because it's known in social knowledge. And no, of course not. That's why the Target tentative date ends with August, August is the last summer month in advertising and planning. Saying your birthday lasts half the year just makes you kinda stupid.

Happy 138th Christmas 2013, everyone!!
It's 2014, and there are only a few different ones, not nearly 138. I don't know why you were compelled to post this, but you're being ridiculous.

I like pokemon, but I'm still not thrilled with how much content they include from those games at the expense of other IPs, ESPECIALLY now that pokemon is apparently getting its own fighting franchise.

I like smash better as a crazy-rollercoaster-through-nintendo's-wacky-history than a guided-tour-of-top-nintendo-franchises-by-sales-and/or-historical/modern-relevancy.

Yeah, yeah, groudon_yelling_at_clouds.jpeg but that's just how I feel.

I mean, Pokemon only has two items now, right? There's not all that much more Pokemon than Mario or Zelda all together.

You realize that said items represent about 36+ Pokemon is a franchise-exclusive equivalent to another item that represents "everything else?" and that in said "everything else" item, most series get 1 rep max?

You realize that that's still the only item Pokemon has? And that Mario and Zelda currently have many more items? And that they don't have 1 rep max in that "everything else" item? Geez, even Metroid has 3 assist trophies. And two characters and a boss! Is Metroid over represented?

It equals out, the Pokeball is pretty much the only item you could have gotten from Pokemon. The fact that it's complex doesn't really make it over representation. Does the Special Flag mean that Namco is over represented in this game?

I counted the number of Mario items and assist trophies. It's 18. That's HALF of the number of Pokemon revealed so far.
