I mean, Pokemon only has two items now, right? There's not all that much more Pokemon than Mario or Zelda all together.
I counted the number of Mario items and assist trophies. It's 18. That's HALF of the number of Pokemon revealed so far.
Ignoring the exaggeration, they're all lower quality models part of an item that otherwise you just pick up and throw. There's not much more representation than something like Zelda or Mario.Where did I say items? I said representation. Look at all those fucking pokemon assets. That's like 50% of all the character models in the game.
But there's only one Pokemon item. It's not over-representation when it only has one (two) items and roughly the same amount of characters and stages. Heck, even Kid Icarus has a lot of items now. I'm not saying Pokemon doesn't have a lot of representation, but its silly to say that its over-represented just because it has a complicated item. That's like saying Metroid had unfair representation in Brawl because it had two bosses in SSE.

Zelda and Mario both also have FOUR characters announced. Oh wait, Mario has FIVE, arguably more. So like I said, it's not any more over-represented than those franchises. You're being insanely obtuse. Pokemon also has FOUR playable reps announced, and that's likely not even a complete list.
But those are the only Pokemon items. Again, the Special Flag is basically a Namco-specific assist trophy. Is Namco over-represented? Of course not. It's the same with Pokemon. This is a joke. Pokemon has its own line of assist trophies basically.
Fire Emblem series has no item in SSB series ever.
I wonder what they could use for items from FE though.
Granted I haven't really played FE much apart from Awakening.
Now, if we're talking Monster Hunter, I think of dozen of items and Assist Trophies.
Also, are we expecting stickers to return?

Did you ignore everything I wrote? I don't think that Zelda and Mario should be so over-represented either. And as I said in my original post, this is just my own personal preference that I'm not trying to impose on anyone. I don't know why you're insisting that my preferences should be different. Saying "pokemon has a huge amount of representation" is an objectively true statement, but for some asinine oppositional-defiance-disorder reason you're arguing the sky is brown.Zelda and Mario both also have FOUR characters announced. Is this the standard process for weekend SmashGAF?

Explain to me how it isn't a reasonable analogy. If "Pokemon basically has its own assist trophy" is reasonable grounds to say the franchise is over-represented, then the same argument applies to Namco.Did you ignore everything I wrote? I don't even... do you honestly, really think that this is a reasonable analogy?
lol of course xDWeekend Smash GAF will continue through Wednesday because that's considered the end of the weekend.
...I have no regrets about my avatar.

Maybe I should have asked if you're comprehending anything I'm posting, which is obviously a no, so I'll just refrain from asking. Are you ignoring everything I'm posting? You're getting unnecessarily defensive over nothing at all. While I won't argue that Pokemon has a large amount of representation (which you seem to think I am), it's not over-represented, as the amount of representation is equal to Mario and Zelda (I'd argue it has less than Mario, but that's just me).
OK dad sorryAlso, please try to keep your temper under control. The bolded was an inappropriate and ridiculous exaggeration..
Fire Emblem series has no item in SSB series ever.
Should it matter? Even if its a whole company, it's still too much. If we're going by importance, history, or number of characters available to draw from, Pokemon should have more representation as well. Like I said, it's the same situation.See my edit above.

What am I doing if not addressing your posts? What? Also, your refusal to address any of my points makes me think you have nothing to say.
We get it, you're sarcastic. Unfortunately, that doesn't make for a compelling argument. Let me know when you're actually interested in having a conversation.
"Overrepresentation" suggests more than something deserves. Pokémon is absolutely justified in having all of the characters and items that it does -- it's a pop culture phenomenon and multimedia empire. It's Nintendo's number two IP (arguably its number one).
And it's not exactly fair to say that all the Poké Ball summons are cutting into other areas of the game; for all we know, it could be Creatures/TPC providing those models to the Smash team. It's not like we'd get one new item for every Poké Ball cut from the game.
Haha perfect. Smash need more axes. Specifically of the thowing kind.If you throw Mire then it can hit enemies from anywhere.
Man SSB4 just has too much content, it makes me mad.
Those bastards need to stop over-delivering value

If Namco gets 35 assist trophies, I will sure as hell argue that they are over-represented. Why would you assume otherwise?
What am I doing if not addressing your posts? What the hell?
Actually, I wasn't interested in having a "conversation" (which I would hardly qualify this as) from the beginning, or at least not one that exists solely to diminish my personal preference for a more flat representation of IPs.
It's like I'm in line ordering a cheesburger and you're 5 spaces behind yelling "ORDER A GODDAMN STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE! THEYRE THE BEST! WHAT ARE YOU DOING DONT ORDER FRIES! HEY! HEY! IM TALKING TO YOU!"
You mean when you decided to say that calling September an autumn month was ridiculous, then spent an entire page spewing nonsense about multiple Christmases? I thought you already agreed that you were clearly in the wrong there. This is some intense pot-kettling going on here.

There's more of that pot kettling! You've heard of this concept called "sarcasm," right?
The pot calling the kettle black. You were outraged enough to make a completely off topic post that only had the purpose of insulting other GAFers.Watching you get outraged over every single person that disagrees with you is pretty amazing.
That's exactly what I said. Thanks for stopping by.
So there's a lot to look at here, so bear with me here.
First of all, when you cut the crap out of your immature exaggeration, you're essentially accusing me of pointing out the flaws in a post you made that wasn't necessarily directed at me, right? Well, I'm really sorry to tell you this, but you're doing the same thing, right now, in this very post. How? Let's take a look!
"If Namco gets 35 assist trophies, I will sure as hell argue that they are over-represented. Why would you assume otherwise?"
So here's the first place that your poor reading comprehension really shines through. If you remember correctly, I never assumed, or even suggested, that you'd be fine with 35 different Namco characters coming out of the special flag. Rather, I was saying that the Namco flag and Pokeball were comparable, in the sense that they're both series-specific "versions" of the assist trophy item. Okay? Not trying to say that you should think it's an appropriate level of representation there.
Now if you'll also remember, this was directed at a different poster. Not you. Instead, being overly defensive, you took it upon yourself to post a snide comment about how poor the comparison was. But, as you later admitted by saying you'd react in the same way if the Special Flag had the same number of options as the Pokeball, you showed that they're in fact comparable. So you ultimately disagreed with yourself, showing that you're simply trying to be argumentative. But, you were doing so in a post that wasn't directed at you at all, which is what you're accusing me of. I would argue that you're an even clearer example of the "asshole in the food line", however, because your contradiction shows that you were clearly only interesting in causing conflict in the first place.
In the end though, I guess it makes sense why you spend most of your posts making insults instead of posting legitimate points and ideas. When you try to do the latter, you just contradict and make a fool of yourself.
Sakurai is cutting already announced characters as we speak.
The pot calling the kettle black. You were outraged enough to make a completely off topic post that only had the purpose of insulting other GAFers.
To be fair, I still expect Capcom to Capcpom shit up and get Mega Man cut before release.
Yeah, I know how you feel. Ideally, the SSB4 roster should be smaller that Brawl's, but that just ain't happening. Sakurai really should consider trimming some of the fat.
I'm surprised that you're aware of the transitive property. Unfortunately, it's not applicable to this situation. When I made the comparison, you, in your own special roundabout way, said it was a poor comparison. When I asked you why, you said because Namco has a history and great importance. I then said that if importance is a factor, then Pokemon is in the same situation, as Pokemon is an important franchise. You then responded with how you would still be upset even if Namco had the same amount of representation as Pokemon.I was responding to a poster who was responding to your response to my response. Transitive property says that it was (in)directed at me. QED.
You're conflating two completely different things. First I was responding to a complete hypothetical vs. reality, which to me was not a strong argument. Then I was taking the position that even if your a prior assumption was true, I would maintain a consistent viewpoint.
Sadly, I'm going to end this amazingly productive interrogation here. So OMG u win. Your "amazing poster" medal is in the mail.
So you admit that it was "really obvious" that you were being a hypocrite with your kettle post? How does that make me "outraged" for pointing it out then. Making an unrelated post purely to insult someone you had an argument with a page ago (which you did) comes off as more spiteful than responding to that post (which I did). I'm glad you find it hilarious, but you're not fooling anyone. You have this weird tendency to just repeat words I've just used back at me, like you've only just learned them. That's fine if you have, but I'm going to point out that it's really obvious and you might want to try not to do that.
And yes, you did totally freak out about a post where I pointed out that you totally freak out about posts pointing things out about you. It's good that you noticed, it's an important first step.
To be fair, I still expect Capcom to Capcpom shit up and get Mega Man cut before release.

If you're saying that last statement was not an admission that the comparison was sufficient, then you still never addressed my previous point, which I also accused you of. You never gave a reason why Namco getting the special flag because of its importance is completely different than Pokemon getting the Pokeball because of the same.
I'll ask the question one more time. How are the two not an accurate comparison?Sick burn. Look, nothing you said is accurate or representative of what I actually said, but I'm making a real effort to look like the barely-not-the-pettiest-smashgaffer here so I'm going to take a bye this round.
For posterity: YOU WIN BRO! If you need me to post "you win" a few more times you'll have to leave a voicemail. I'm going out.

Your attempts at purposely misunderstanding a post to try and act like you've discovered a clever interpretation of it just makes it look like you have poor reading comprehension. So you admit that it was "really obvious" that you were being a hypocrite with your kettle post?
